Your top five formats of all time

If you aren't sick of em lisitng threads already, here's a new one for you.

Rules

1. Any arcade board/portable/ or console can be considered a format for this threads purpose.
2. Backward compatibility and peripherals can be considered as advantages of a particular format. For example, the GBA player can be considered as a plus point for the GCN.
3. Try to rank systems according to the quality of lineups, not their nostalgia value.
4. Try to give some reasons. Just to make the thread more interesting.:)

Can we list computers or would the PC screw things up by spanning several generations?

#1- The Sega Dreamcast/ Naomi Arcade Board: Short lived, yes, but it had an AMAZING lineup of games for such a short lifespan. Soul Calibur, Crazy Taxi, Skies of Arcadia. Sword of the Berserk, Project Justice, Jet Grind Radio, Space Channel 5, Marvel vs. Capcom, SOnic Adventure, the list goes on and on. The system has sooooooo many classics :)

#2- Sony Playstation 2/PSX: Backward compatability= +10000. The Ps2 has a very good lineup so far, and the PSX has soo many epics (Xenogears, Street Fighter Alpha 2, Rival Schools, Final Fantasy 7, Vagrant Story, Chrono Cross, etc.), so this is an automatic #2!

#3- Sega Saturn/Model 2/ Model 3: Panzer Dragoon Saga, Virtua Fighter 2, Daytona USA, Guardian Heroes, Shining Force 3, Sega Rally, Nights... int Dreams, Burning Rangers... need I say more?!?

#4- Super Nintendo: Another amazing lineup, Link to the Past, Super Mario World, Final Fantasy 3/6, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, etc.

#5- Gamboy/Color/Advance: 2d powerhouse. So many great handheld classics :)





#6 is Genesis... very close :p

And what about emulation? DC can play perfect NES and SMS games. Can we count the entire NES and SMS libraries as a + for DC? Xbox plays alot more than that, and PC even more still.

Neo: I guess you can list home computers like the C64 and Vic 20, but not the main PC format as a whole. It's unfair, as it's a whole section of gaming by itself.

Chibi- Emulation doesn't count. The XB would easily be everyones #1 then.

1.Super Nintendo - I think this was when I enjoyed gaming the most, seemed like there was always something new and exciting on the system. It was also the only system that i actually completely wore down the controllers from playing so much. The games have aged insanely well for me and I still play it all the time. Hell I still see games all the time at work that I wanted to pick up back in the day and finally am now, seems like the library is never ending for me.

2.CPS, CSP2, CPS3 - This wonderful series of arcade boards brought upon this world the Street Fighter series. Honestly thats all that needs to be said.

3.PSX - I wasn't too into this generation when it was new, but much like the SNES I keep finding cheap games that are actually not to bad. It seems you can always find the hidden gems of a system long after its dead. Seems im always finding some 9.99 or 14.99 title used thats actually pretty good. It has a great diversity to it too, wide choice of games.

4.Gamecube, GBA - So what you want about both of these systems, but for me i was kinda slowly phasing out of gaming. That is untill these two systems came out. The GBA brought back that old school feel in gaming i enjoyed during the SNES days which got me hooked into gaming again, and the GC just reeled me back in. I love the design of the system both looks and hardware wise, and the tiny discs kick much ass. Metroid Prime, Zelda WW, Eternal Darkness, some of the best gaming of this generation and the games that have me back full force into gaming.

5.PC/Neo Geo - This is a tie here and ill explain why for both systems. The Neo just has soo many fantastic fighters on it, and not to mention one of the best shooters ever blazing star. While im not much of a PC gamer today i can not deny the fun i had with it back in the day. Sierra and Lucas Arts made the PC so much fun for me, The Leisure Suit Larry series, Quest for Glory, Kings Quest, Maniac Mansion and Day of the tentacle, just to name a few. Then you had that great surge of FPS and finally the king of them all Half Life.

1. Genesis / Sega CD / 32X - I will never spend that much time with a system again.
2. Neo Geo - Best great to bad game ratio ever.
3. PlayStation 2 w/ PSone library - Quantity and quality.
4. NES - For reviving the market.
5. SNES - Not as great as many think but great.

The ultimate action system. Shinobi, Contra, Gunstar, Strider, Alien Soldier, Target Earth, Twinkle Tales, Rolling Thunder, GnG, Mercs and Castlevania are some of the best action games of all time.

It also happens to the home of the best beat em ups and mascot plattformers of all time. The original Sonic will always be my favorite plattformer of all time.

And it's no slouch at shooters and action RPGs either.;)

The backward compatibility gives it one of the most expansive lineups ever. GTA3, SoTN, Ridge Racer 4, Raiden, Valkrie Profile, Suikoden, Persona, Wipeout, Maximo, Ape Escape, Oddworld and tons of others rock my world.

This is a strong candidate for #1, but I believe that the Genesis covers my favorite genres better.

: Nintendos best console, IMO. The Nintendo software is fantastic, and so is almost everything from Capcom and Konami.

Alot of my favorite games had never made it to the States, but I've played many of those great SFC imports via emulation.

Yoshi's Island, Super Mario World, Zelda, Cybernator, Castlevania 4, Super G n G, Earthbound, SMT, Seiken Denetsu, Umi Hara Kawase, Go Go Ackman and the Megaman games are all great.

Shenmue 2, JGR, Sonic Adventure, Chu Chu Rocket, Gunbird, Zero Gunner, Crazy Taxi, Virtua Tennis, Rez, Grandia 2.

1. Dreamcast - Best system for fighters by far. Pisses on the Neo Geo from a considerable height. Shenmue, Sakura Taisen, Jet Set Radio, Yu Suzuki Gameworks, Daytona 2001, Ikaruga, Bangaioh... love it.

2. Playstation 2 - The second best system for fighting games and of course the awesome PSone shooter libary. Ridge Racer V, VF4 Evolution, Psyvariar and Rez are brilliant. A seemingly unlimited supply of RPGs is also on offer.

3. Mega Drive - Because of Ristar, Gunstar Heroes, Alien Soldier, Sonic and Thunder Force IV.

4. Sega Saturn - Lots of good shooters but for me NiGHTS, Burning Rangers, Shining Force 3, Sega Rally and Dragon Force were the stand outs.

5. Super Famicom - For all those fantastic Nintendo games.

1.) Dreamcast - As many new systems as I get, and as many new games for them, I always go back to the DC. It really is unbeatable. MvC2, CvS, CvS2, Zero Gunner, Mars Matrix, Cool Cool Toon, etc. This limited alotment of games is enought to keep me coming back, but to my utter excitement, there are many more.

2.) PS2 - There's really nothing for me to say that wouldn't be considered obvious. PS2 and PSX games, most third party support, great exclusives, etc.

3.) Saturn - An amazing platform with some of the most inventive, original, and fun games around. There's always a reason to play your Saturn, whether it be NiGHTS, Burning Rangers, or any number of shooters.

4.) XBOX - I love it. It's been (and continues to be) innundated with FPS games, but everything in between is too good to pass up. And the FPS are alright too. :)

5.) Genesis - I love my Geny like a brother.

1.Genesis/Sega Cd-this was a close call but the Sega Cd gives it the edge.
2.NES-Sooooo many classics!
3.Playstation 2-to play Psone games.
4.SNES-The best RPGs the world has ever known.
5.Saturn-the most underrated system.

1- Saturn: Lots of quality games in the lineup. No need to go into detail here. :)

2- Taito F3: I'll count the cart games (Darius Gaiden, Pop'N Pop, Elevator Action II) as well as the regular JAMMA board ones (Grid Seeker, RayForce).

3- PS2: The import PS2 market is churning out some nice titles lately, and the partial backward compatibility with PS1 games is a bonus. There's XII Stag, DDPDOJ, Time Crisis II, and eventually Time Crisis 3 in the lineup.

4- Dreamcast: Psychic Force 2012, Street Fighter III and other Capcom games, Ferrari F355.

5- Mega Drive: MUSHA, Gaiares (it was to 1991 what the PS2's Gradius V is to 2003 in terms of jawfloor power... this game really showed its 8 Meg in graphics & sound, and featured a cool weapon learning mechanic), Thunder Force, & Streets of Rage series.

1. Neo Geo.... Look at my sig, man I love all those games! :) The fact that it is still alive and well after 13+ years, is amazing, and competitive even in the arcades. So much innovation too, with portable memory card, etc.

2. Sega Saturn/STV... Allow easy arcade ports to home, like Radiant Silvergun, etc

3. NES (no words needed)

4. Genesis (look at NES)

5. Your choice :D

1. Playstation 2 - The main reason I'm placing this first is the backwards compatibility with the PS1 which has an overwhelming amount of good games.

2. Genesis/Sega CD - Still the best overall format for 2d action games. It also covers other categories nicely.

3. SNES - Many of the greatest games ever made are on SNES. The other Nintendo systems can't compare to it.

4. Dreamcast - It's like the Master System of the 21st century: lots of excellent, original, and underappreciated Sega stuff.

5. Don't make me choose between the Duo, Saturn and Amiga. The GBA is becoming increasingly impressive as well.


I love 8-bit machines like the NES, SMS, and C64 but they have been surpassed by similar yet more powerful machines.

I left out arcade boards since they generally don't have the quantity or variety of home systems but System 16 and CPS1 have some of my favorite games.

I love early '80's games but since most of the best ones were arcade games, no home systems made my list.

I understand why the PC couldn't be included but I must add that Windows-era PCs especially have kicked major ass and have had some of the best games ever. There were a few years (1999,2000) where the PC was my favorite format. I wish more console gamers would appreciate it.

1, Dreamcast - Most of my favourite games are DC games.
2, Genesis/Sega CD/Power Base - Massive number of quality games between these 3 formats.

4, PS2/PSX - Eventually the sheer number of games may see it eclipse Saturn for #3.

I've got the single worst knowlege bank when it comes to PC Engine stuff.

I would pick 1992-1999 PC, before it became mired in endless FPS and RTS clones.

1. SNES - The only reason I put this first is because I enjoy the 2D classics a lot and this delivers just that. The system itself was never overly impressive but the support for it was and I thoroughly enjoy it.

2. Xbox - I didn't go for support here, because 3rd party support is the Xbox's biggest flaw, in my opinion. There are few games out there that I want to play. I love the controller design (S version, of course) and the system itself is amazing. The snap off adapters on the controllers, the built in harddrive making memory cards obsolete, the out-of-the-box internet ready port, so all that I needed was Xbox Live. Great, great stuff.

3. Playstation 2 - Playstation compatibility is the major player here. Sony has a great lineup of exclusive 3rd party games or games that were made to take advantage of the Playstation 2. Its library always has fresh stuff, usually it did until recently when everything coming out is a sequel, it seems. But sequels or not, the PS2 being backwards compatable and having a strong library of its own makes me choose it.

4. Nintendo Gamecube - Like the PS2, compatability with the GBA's library makes me choose this. Games like Pikmin, Eternal Darkness, Metroid Prime, Mario Sunshine, Star Fox Adventures and The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker make me choose this, and then of course the incredible library of GBA games such as the Wario games, or mario kart for GBA, or Super Metroid, etc. That makes this extremely valuable to me.

5. NES - I picked this system mostly for the nostalgia. I know you're not supposed to, but I did it anyway. This system is what really got me in to gaming, big time. Sega Master System got me in, this game peaked my interest. I wish I never sold it, and was a fool to do so, but because of this I choose it as #5.

Runnerups: Genesis.

1) SNES
Yoshi's Island, Super Metroid, and Tetris Attack more than justify it.

2) PS2
Sheer volume of games.

3) Dreamcast
The last bastion of 2D gaming. Totally unique.

4) Genny/SCD
Some of the best action games ever crafted.

5) Neo Geo
10+ years and it still feels like nothing else out there. Probably the "coolest" of all the consoles ever.

1. Dreamcast - It's got VOOT, Sonic Adventure, JGR, Shenmue, and then some.

2. PS2/PSOne - Bemani. SOTN. Metal Gear Solid. GTA3. Virtua Fighter 4 AND Soul Calibur 2. Mmm.

3. PC - Easily the largest library, and there are waaay to many excellent titles to count. FPSes rock my world.

4. Saturn - There are tons of great shmups and Capcom ports on this beast, not to mention the Panzer Dragoon games.

5. Don't make me choose between the SNES and the Genesis.

Wow, this was very hard. I had to leave out some favorites such as Dreamcast, Neo Geo, GBA...etc. I think if I had to limit myself to five consoles though, these would be my choices. It all comes down to the game libraries, each of these systems has the most amount of games that I enjoy.

I have to pick the Saturn as my number one choice. No other console has provided as much fun, or cunsumed as much of my gaming time, as the Saturn and I owned PSX and N64 at the same time.


Dreamcast: It was a short run, but oh what a great one. PSO, Alien Front Online, Street Fighter III, Crazy Taxi, Sega Bass Fishing, Samba De Amigo and so much more.


Super Nintendo: What can I say? The soundchip rocked, the 2-d graphics were beautiful and some of the best 2-d games ever, were on the SNES.


Genesis: Herzog Zwie, Shining in the Darkness, Phantasy Star II, The Strike Series, Sonic and so many other titles, made 16-bit gaming a reality and the NES old news.


P.C: There's no denying that the P.C. has had just as many legendary games, as the consoles. Wing Commander, Command and Conquer, Myst, Doom, Half-Life, Quake, The Sims, Freelancer, the best version of GTA:Vice City, Evercrack, and just about every emulation you could think of.

4. Nintendo Entertainment System

1.snes- the library speaks for its self,this is the home of actraiser and soulblazer, some of the best games ever.

2. DC- not as good as this board makes it out to be, but still pretty damn good, also gave me my first shot of online gaming with alien front online and pso.

3. GC- so far i am realy loving the library,plus a third party good library consdering the drought of the 64

4. N64- any system that has majora's mask,sin and punishment, blast corps,and oot must be ranked.

5.x-box- the most ambitiousgmaes ever hit this system, between fable andmorrowind, this system strikes me as havign a very good idea of what makes an enjoyable open ended game,plus the custom soundtracks and aggressive online component make this a strong system..now if only it had a better library.

saturn JUST missed the list, it had some kick ass games, with the shining games,legend of oasis,and the original panzers, but it just missed.

1. DC - Too much multiplayer competitive goodness. Sega Rally 2, SC, F355, VOOT, VT, TD lemans, Sega Sports etc.

2. Saturn - Nights, Sega Rally, and VF2. 3 games I played more than all the N64 and PSX games combined. I did play alot of goldeneye and AKI wrestling with friends though.

3.SNES - SF2 and mario kart when they were the best games ever.

4.Genesis -Awsome shooters galore and the only 16-bit game that was up there with SF2 and mario kart....HERZOG ZWEI!

5.PS2 - It's getting all the third party support right now and this generation is my fave.

How in the hell are the GameCube and Xbox making people's lists? The Sega CD alone had almost as many must-have games as those consoles. Perhaps you guys are the generation that started gaming with the PlayStation?

Jeremy........what he's saying is that these consoles haven't lived for very long and their lineups are not very big. I agree with him on the Sega CD having more games then those two, but to each his own.

I've been gaming since your momma was a baby, and I'd put GC before Sega CD.

The Dreamcast because it got me back into video games.
CPS2 because of mother fucking Street Fighter 2.
The Neo for Last Blade 2.

Yeah, but many PC gamers write off consoles and arcades as shitty, and many arcade gamers think that PC's are shit, etc, etc. Many people within these different gaming groups despise other types of gaming without even giving them a chance.

And my favorite era in pee see gaming was 94-97;) This year looks like it's going to be one of the best.

As I stated in my post, I started with the SMS, playing Double Dragon and the Rocky boxing title. The reason i picked Gamecube is clear: I like it.

The Xbox was picked solely on its hardware specs. It doesn't have the robust library others do, but the thing has so much potential. Hopefully Fable and Halo 2 will tap it? I never had a Sega CD, or Genesis while growing up, so that could factor in to the issue.

Not that I have to justify myself, I like what I like.

My $.02

1) Dreamcast
Highest number of quality titles. Soul Calibur and Shenmue alone would make this system the best.

2) NES
Christ, what is there like 3000 titles for this system?

3) Genesis
Was the start of gaming as not just entertianment, but a creative outlet.

4) C64
The system I cut my teeth on, so its got a soft spot with me.

5) Saturn.

Waaaaaay to much quality, waaaaaaay to understood by the masses.

This isn't an issue of opinion. There is no objective way to have the Xbox or GC higher than, say, the PS2. The PS2, when the PS1 library is included, is strong in every single genre. If you objectively look at its list of titles, you can't possibly argue that the Xbox or GC is the better system. I understand someone picking the Saturn over the PS if they are a big Capcom fighting fan or the Neo over it if they are a big fan of arcade-style games, but that's it. The Xbox and GC are not strong enough anywhere to warrant support in an all-time list like that. If you think that's "elitist," fine. It wouldn't be the first time and won't be the last that speaking the truth got me that label.

Your 'truth' is your opinion. You say the GC and Xbox's libraries are no where near that of the PS1 - PS2's. That's opinion. Some people may not like the PS1's library, or the PS2's and think they are weak or something like that.

This rule seems made up specifically to give points to the GC and not XBox.....if you can consider peripherals such as the GBA player, why not include everyting else, like emulation? If so then XBox wins since it can play NES+Genesis+SNES+SMS games as well....

No. People have different tastes. They may like completely different types of games. My point is that the PS2/PS1 is strong in every type of game. There is no gamer who cannot find a fair number of games that they like on there, if they look at it objectively. There is not a single genre where the GC and/or Xbox is stronger than the PS2, with the possible exception of the racing lineup on the Xbox.

If you disagree, Andrew, make a case that the GC or Xbox has a better lineup than the PS2. I want specific examples, because I submit that they do not exist.

Maybe some people are writing off the PS1 library because they can't stand the bad graphics? (compared to the newer 3D consoles)

It makes me sad that nobody listed a NEC console in their top five. I'd say with the Duo's expansive library it's a no brainer, oh well.

I did sort of list the Duo in the fifth slot. ;) I love the machine.

1. NES - My favorite system ever, the games for which often filled me with wonderment and joy. I'm surprised many here choose 16-bit systems over it.

2. PSX - I'm not in love with the platform, but the games speak for themselves.

3. Genesis / SNES - Each is spiff. I'm just a bit biased towards Genesis b/c of my love of the underdog.

4-XX - I like every other reasonably good system (ie, not Jag or 3DO) fairly evenly.

Just about everything the NES(and SMS) did, the 16-bitters did better, which is why so many of us rank them higher.

Yes, but the NES did most of those things first. :)

I was more experienced by the time 16-bit rolled around -- I knew what to expect, and was harder to surprise. So I don't think 16-bit had as much impact on me as a gamer.

Yoshi, this isn't an issue of opinion? That seems to contradict the thread title of "YOUR top five formats of all time", which would seem to indicate an opinion being involved.

The NES was great and all, but it had some problems in handling arcade ports. Space Harriers for the NES is the worst game ever made, and the NES R Type prototype is the funniest thing I've ever seen.

But to each is own...

The Famicom was designed to handle arcade ports like Donkey Kong and Pac-Man so it's not surprising that the machine couldn't handle later games like R-Type. The arcade-console technology gap in the '80's was enormous. The Master System was the closest you could get to having an arcade at home at the time but even there the games weren't close to the arcade versions.

And many of the Pre NES era arcade games play alot better than games of that era for whatever reason. I'm not very well versed in gaming history, but games like Robotron 2084 play a hundred times better than Double Dragon and all.=\

The Sega/Namco/Konami/Namco coin op games were good, but I like the older stuff better for whatever reason.

The arcade Gyruss is so much better than Gradius that it's not even funny.

IMO the mid 90s was the rennisance era of the arcades with manic shooters, 3D Racers, Light Gun games, Metal Slug,etc.

1. NES---Mike Tyson's Punch Out!, The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros., Metroid, Mega Man 2, Bionic Commando etc.

We wouldn't be where we are today if it wasn't for the granddaddy of all video game systems.


2. SNES----Simply awesome. When the Genesis-Snes war was raging this was my system of choice.

It's lineup of games is better than the NES, the graphics on most games still look good today, the sounds still stand out, it deserves the title of SUPER Nintendo Entertainment System..

Super Empire Strikes Back, Donkey Kong Country, Super Ghouls N Ghosts, Super Mario World, Final Fantasy 3, Chrono Trigger, Zelda: A Link to the Past, I could go on and on.


3. XBox----Panzer Dragoon Orta, Hitman 2, Splinter Cell, Halo, Online play, a hard drive, great controller, emulation.

Could use some 2-D games on it but that's nitpicking.


4. Sega Nomad----I'll admit I didn't like the Genesis at one point but the release of the Nomad got me into the system.

Classic games and very cheap nowadays and you can hook it up to a TV if you want.


5. What was I thinking when I put Sega Dreamcast in this spot? It goes to the GBA.

A system that is rising up my rankings with a rapidly increasing library of great games.

Incase you didn't realize, the PS is on my list. Better lineups? See that's the point, maybe I dislike a lot of the stuff 3rd parties are pumping in to a system, yet I love Nintendo's style and offerings.

Therefore the lineup would not be as strong to me, hence why it's all opinionated in the end. Also, don't think that I'm avoiding your challenge, because I am actually compiling a list of the Nintendo games, and GBA game (with the player) that I enjoy and would take in comparison to the PS2's library.

1) Gameboy Advance- I'd sell everything else before i sold my Gameboy. It has a huge amount of games that i love, all the way back to the original Gameboy and i can hold the thing in my hands and take it anywhere. Granted, my hands are probably horribly malformed from growing up with it, but now i can cradle the GBA SP just right. Now that i can light up the screen without a nasty glare and fold it into a tiny box, it goes up a hundred times. Simple games and a simple system for a simple mind, i guess.

2) PS2- I can't deny that my favorite rpg series have moved onto the PSX and then the PS2. If it weren't for FFX, Breat of Fire Dragon Quarter and BoF IV, Tales of Eternia, Megaman Legends 2, The Misadventures of Tron Bonne, Silhouette Mirage, Um Jammer Lammy, and Gitaroo Man, it wouldn't even be on my list, but those are already a bunch of games. Then there are the ones i just like, and there are a lot of those too.

3) N64- :\ It's a tough choice between the N64, Saturn, and Gamecube, but Majora's Mask just barely pulls the N64 to the front. It's a tough little system. The only thing hurting it is the ridiculous price of cartridges. Paper Mario, Ogre Battle 64, Zelda: OoT, Mischief Makers, Wave Race, Sin and Punishment, Mario 64, and the original Smash Bros. are all great.

4) Gamecube- It's cute and it has fun games. I've probably put more time into Super Smash Bros. Melee than any other non-rpg. The visuals of Zelda the Windwaker are my favorite of any videogame and only my second favorite in the series to Majora's Mask. Mario Sunshine, at its time, was the most fun i'd had with a game for a while. Metroid Prime did the impossible and made me like a first-person game. Mr. Driller: Drill Land is my second favorite looking game ever and has my favorite music EVAR.

5) Saturn- Poor Saturn. It looks tough enough, and it has a nice cd-player set-up thing, but it's also kind of clunky and i always have the fear that it's going to break next time i turn it on. The games are what matters, i suppose. Nights alone is better than any Sonic game, for me. Then there are the Capcom fighters, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Shining Force III, Shining in the Holy Ark, Burning Rangers, Gaurdian Heroes, Radiant Silvergun, and Princess Crown, which all really do it for me.

NES - Everyone knows this one, even my mother, who referred to every gaming system I played, as a Nintendo. There's no denying the impact of this system. So many classics, this is the system to beat.

Saturn - Lots of fighters and shooters, home to Radiant Silvergun, and many classic SNK translations.

Dreamcast - Poor DC, why did you have to go? Obviously, one of my fav systems ever.

NeoGeo - Home of one of my favorite fighting series, King of Fighters :) 2-D forever!

Playstation - Made gaming "easy-access" and "cool" for adults. Brought me lots and lots of hits ( we'll let the poor design out of our heads for a moment ). I remember when I got Street Fighter Alpha, or even Ridge Racer. Grand Turismo. SOTN. Too many hits to name.

PC Engine- Brilliant, and not overrated in the slightest.

Jap PSone- Home to some of the weirdest and greatest imports around, seasoned with a bunch of great shooters.

JAMMA- Couldn't beat it with a stick.

SNES/Super Famicom- So many great games.

Saturn- While not "the greatest 2D/shooter console ever like everyone likes to say, there's still a ton of great games on offer.

yoshi,if you want, i can expand on why i picked gc and box.
the gc,as i said, has the library that fits me the best. yeah,i know that the ps2 has more games, but i am interested in less of them than on the gc, honestly i can say that wind waker blows away everything i have seen on the ps2, animal crossing had my attention for as long as a good pso bender, the gc had the first version of pso ep2, which got me back into it for a while,smash bros melee is the best multi player fighter i have played,more strategic than powerstone, deeper in terms of both items and moves than kung fu chaos,and faster then godzilla. Ps2 may well have some great games, but not for me.

x-box,this system seems to have the most coherent online out look,yeah ps2 has an online outlook ,but live is more coherent. Plus the sega games on the box are the seriesthat i care the most about. I also like how a good number of box games are very open ended. fable,unless it gets horribly boggled,will be the kind of game i have dreamed of for quite some time, a REAL role player, not a j-rpg with cliched plots and a story line that i barely impact at all. Also i realy love custom soundtracks,i am infamous for getting sick of a game's sound track and just putting on my headphones,the box lets me hear the on screen action,while still being able to hear the crappy music that i like :p

I played the shit out of C-64, so by the time NES arrived, most of the titles were nothing new to me. Standouts like Punch-Out!!!, Zelda, Super Mario and Final Fantasy, made the system worth owning, but by comparison, the C-64 with over 10,000 titles spoiled me long before the NES. Still, I could'nt vote any 8-bit system as being my top 5.

But the system does have a lot of good to it, and it's future (listed below), coupled with its GBA connectivity and present, make it one of my selections. I was contemplating putting the Harvest Moon: It's A Wonderful Life on the PS2 list, but the n64 version of the game is far better. Gameplay/Mechanics > Graphics for me, which is another thing that would make somebodies list change, depending on taste. I also only picked games that made a huge impact for me to buy or enjoy the system. (I don't own a GBA, but I have friends who do and abuse this friendship liberty to its fullest). So while I may love Bomberman Generations, it isn't the kind of game that will rattle me enough to put it on there as a 'must-have' sort of game.

Also, feel free to question me about games I may have missed, or why I chose one game on a system over another. (Resident Evil remake, or Tactics on BOTH) I'm not above giving my selections a thoroughly shake-out, like most would. I think more people should back up their claims around here, to be honest. (speaking strictly of userbase, not staff)

Sorry it took me a bit longer to make the list, just busier today.

I never even thought about including the GB Player functionality with the GameCube. Using that rationale, you could easily make a case for it in the Top 5.
