Favorite Arcade Racers

By arcade racer I mean any racer other than boring as fuck simulations like Gran Turismo. So kart and futuristic racers are fine.

Ridge Racer Type 4- It's got the classic RR gameplay, but what really makes this stand out from the rest of the series are the stellar backgrounds, music and general atmosphere.

Need for Speed:HP2- This game has the best sense of speed out of all the racers I've played.

Rush 2- Great shortcuts, huge jumps, and an addictive stunt mode.

Some other favorites - Extreme-G, Mario Kart 64, and Wipeout Fusion.

Neo DriftOut on MVS is incredible.

You're welcome, Technosphile. The G-Net version does have better graphics than the PS one, as well- it runs in 640x480, IIRC. At www.system16.com/taito/hrdw_gnet.html there are a few pics of this one.

The gungrip RC controller has a 2-way trigger (accelerator and brake in one) and a tire shaped steering wheel. At the continue screen the announcer will say "Don't give up!". If the timer ticks down some, he'll say "Never give up!". :lol: I've got the World version which is called Go By RC.

A little known racer that I'm surprised didn't bet a port home was Namco's Dirt Dash. It's a rip off of Sega Rally except with over the top damage that the cars/trucks can take. You can rip off doors and hoods and such and the vehicle would actually drive differently depending on the damage state. Great off road racer for it's time with shortcuts, environmental hazards and such and it was released many many years ago.

Daytona USA - ESPECIALLY THE DC VERSION. I had lots of fun with it online for some reason

Ridge Racer 4 - Its the only Ridge Racer I have ever played. From what I hear I shouldn't bother with the other ones then....

AND I really liked Beetle Adventure Racing on the N64. I just thought it was lots of fun for some reason. I enjoyed finding all the shortcuts. It was a really fun game. There really isn't much to say about a game where you race in various forms of the same car but it was fun :)
