Video game addiction (gasp!)

Ok, so I woke up to a story on the local NBC station about video game addictions. It showed a couple of PC gamers and how they have no lives, etc because they are "addicted" to games and play them for hours every day. I watched it but just dismissed it as more media trash and turned the TV off.

So I head over to their website and find the article about it at http://www.wgrz.com/storyfull.asp?id=14146 only to scroll to the bottom of the page to see that they link to the fake MAVAV site as one of the "places you can go for help."

Those mothers are always dumping on something I like. Guns, Drunk Driving... now Videogames? fuckers.

I have a friend who has been playing Everquest for the past 4 years. H hasn't bothered to get a job in 2 years bcause it would interfere with his playing time. He's gone so far as altering his sleep cycle to get the most playing time. It should be obvious why I don't go there much anymore.

The fact that a link to a fake site is necessary to support their claims tells you all you need to know. Newsflash -- television can be addictive. I guess we should take this program off the air. :rolleyes:

ahh, the people who the real world has taught nothing. Courageously keeping the rest of us from having fun, god forbid, because you only live once.

Someone for once should organize a site, to stand up to and organized site.

There was a news story about gaming addiction on my local NBC affiliate a couple weeks ago. I'm glad I didn't watch it, as it would've just angered up the blood. If anything, I feel sorry for the kids whose parents will crack down on their game time once they see crap like this on TV.

I'm glad my parents let me play video games as much as I wanted when I was a kid. They obviously saw it was something I loved to do, and it taught me responsibility and consequences of actions (playing Dragon Warrior II instead of doing homework = D in Alegebra and pissed off parents).

Someone around here on TNL put it best... "Mothers Against Actual Parenting" (MAAP). That MAAP banner was pure gold. Since I couldn't find it on my HD, I made up a new one to share.

Watch children only be allowed to play for 20 minutes a day... that's not long enough to finish most games. I can see Suzy Soccermom standing over little Jimmy with the ol' egg timer.

The fact that they link to MAVAV and acknowledge it as a real site is mud on their face. WGRZ-TV is 0wnZor3d by their own ignorance. :lol:

LOL that's hilarious. Now that MAVAV has been mentioned by NBC (an affiliate) it is now completely and totally FACT to people. I love how they have merchendice now too.

"Digital Drug?!:wtf:" This is the same shit that they used to try and ban the Pokemon CCG. Claiming that it was giving children the right to gamble.

I once saw a report in some paper where doctors said that there was a clear link between games and violence. Aparantly they had hooked a bunch of wires and shit to some kid and had him play Tomb Raider. Once he got "into the game" his blood preasure rose and be became "visably tense."

the logical next step is a GAM (Gamers Against Mothers) site...

WGRZ-TV Buffalo is the NBC affiliate on my local cable. LOL -- that's funny how MAVAV is a hoax and NBC used it as a source. :)
