Even though they weren't very interactive, they offered an unique experience and I think should belong in the gaming hall of fame. Especially Time Gal. I sort of miss them.

I love Time Gal. I want the damn PSX version.
I loved Cobra Command back when it came out in the arcade.
Cobra Command? Isn't it that game where you control a hooded terrorist leader that has to conquer the world while keeping track of his backstabbing allies?
Alright, no more lame GI Joe jokes for today. :p
I'm not a big fan of these kind of games but I do like Time Gal. I have the Sega CD version.
Exactly what I was going to say.Quote:

Sweet sig nze.
I always loved Road Avenger the most. I still have it and I even played it the other day. I always wanted to get the PSX/Saturn version, since both versions came as a two-pack game which included both Cobra Command and Road Avenger. I kind of thought both versions would be just like my old trusty Sega CD version, just with cleaner video. I always wondered what the the LaserActive version looked like in motion though.....

Does the PSX version have the topless fan service bit I've heard about, I wonder?Quote:

Time Gal was pretty fun, it cost my 15 bucks and I never felt like I was ripped off for buying it. I always wished I could try the PSX version though.
Hey Johnny, is your avatar from a Castlevania game? It looks familiar but I can't remeber from where.
I am a big Road Avenger fan--gotta love the opening theme song.
I hadn't heard about that. I wanted it because it has real FMV of decent quality, and Ninja HAyate. Or were you just making a joke?Quote:

I seem to recall that the Japanese MegaCD version has a one-frame topless shot in it somewhere.
I may be misremembering one of the details. I'll do some research.
If it looks familiar, then it's because the characters on the avatar are Richter and Maria, but they're not taken from any Castlevania game you might've played. It's actually from an unreleased Dracula X sequel for the 32X. I took it from a collage of Castlevania sprites from KCE Kobe's site that included this and Richter's rival from the same game. Luckily I saved it before they closed down. The collage also contained the Ayami Kojima-style Richter sprite from the Saturn version of SotN.Quote:

Ya I thought it was Richter but I kept thinking "Hey, she's too old to be Maria!" That Dracula X sequel for the 32X looks like it could have been a cool game.

Biggest disapointment ever this not being released.
I wonder how far along it got before it became symphony of the night, I don't remember any screenshots circulating, and even the castlevania underground (which has music for the unreleased dreamcast version up) doesn't have a thing on it.
Time Gal is soo fun, smooth response time also. I get a kick
out of these games, even though they aren't that interactive.
Whatever happened to this important research? Seriously, Time Gal is foxy.Quote:

I love Roadblasters, and don't recall playing the others. Roadblasters was fun for me on the NES, and is fun now on the Genesis and Arcade Treasures, where it looks amazing.
I think he meant Road Avenger, actually, a similar game from the people that made Time Gal and Cobra Command.Quote:

I just put up a review for Cobra Command on my site. If anyone can find me more pics, I'd be obliged.
I know I'm gonna revive
When I am...on the road.
I've got nowhere to hide
When I am...on the road.
And there's no use in wondering why
It made you feel like running from me then, girl
How many more tears must I shed
So as to melt the freezing wall of time?
So I'm gonna break it
Have no fear...on the road.
You know I'm sure to make it
No matter what's...on the road.
And don't you know it's very hard
She keeps barking to the silver moon
But I don't care how long it takes
As long as she lights up my way in the gloom
Until the very moment...when I see you again
I keep steering along the road to the sun
The burning sun
Hear the roars of my car, I'm nearly round the bend
Searching for a love that we did share
There's no one who can stop me now
Who sang those Lyrics somewhere I read Frank Stallone was
the voice, is it true?
I've always enjoyed Dragon's Lair-type LD games, and I've never had the chance to play any of these. I'm curious how the video quality is on the PS version of Time Gal... and I'm more curious about the Mega LD version. Considering I doubt I'll ever fork over the cash necessary to get a Laseractive, I can't see myself forking over the cash for a copy of that anytime soon, either.
Road Blaster (No S) is the Japanese title for Road Avenger. The name was obviously changed due to potential confusion with Roadblasters, as evidenced here.
The Playstation and Saturn double packs(Time Gal/Ninja Hayate and Roadblaster/Thunder Storm) are ports of the Arcade Laseractive titles and as such are missing and Sega CD exclusive features, such as the sweet opening theme song to Road Avenger. The video quality is better than the Sega CD version, but I imagine the Laseractive original is still the best. Some options are included to tweak the gameplay, such as mirroring the picture or using updated frontends. In Road Blaster, the control is also altered a bit. While you only had to tap the direction in the Sega Cd version, you actually have to hold it in until it disappears on the Sat/Ps version. Sort of as though you are really "steering" the car. Takes some time to get a hang of.
As for the Time Gal fan service, I've heard it was in there but I never noticed it.

I used to have Braindead 13 for Saturn too.
 I have the Japanese release of Braindead 13, and while I haven't put in the time to progress very far, it is freaking hillarious even (or especially) with the incomprehensible dialogue.Quote:

eh, and it's worth mentioning that Time Gal/Roadblaster/Cobra Command were developed by Wolfteam, who then became Gau (of Crusader of Centy fame) or something. Anyone know if they exist in any capacity nowadays?
They still exist under the name Namco Tales Studios. Members of Wolf Team left and became Gau/Nextech but Wolf Team existed for a while after that.
I wouldn't exactly call them the developer of those FMV games. They just ported them. Time Gal is a Taito arcade game and Road Avenger and Cobra Command are Data East arcade games.
Thanks for clarifying that.Quote:

hmm, Namco Tales Studios, good to know -thanks!
I had rented Cobra Command for my Sega CD, back in the day. It was a pretty cool game and ported quite well to the format. I've thought about hunting down a copy of that game, but it's not high on my list of old games to get.
