Anyone else have a problem with MSHvsSF not working with the 5in1

I just recently got Marvel Super Heroes Vs Street Fighter for the saturn and ever other 4 meg ram game i have works perfectly with the action replay 5in1 i have but for some reason i put in MSHvSF and i get some screen that says 4 and then alot of things in japanese and then it takes me to the cd player screen for the saturn and says something about this cartridge being unsuitable for the system

but if i take it out and put in say Xmen Vs SF which uses the 4 meg cart also it loads and works just fine


any thoughts

Heh. I tried modding my US Saturn. I fried the security circuitry though -- now it only plays imports. But now I've got a nice white one from VGD with a ST-Key -- it plays everything and I need no crappy 5-in-1 for import games. :D

though i may get it modded seeing as how i have 3 saturns now

i really want something where i only need one hooked up though like i have for my PSX now

That's odd John, because mine works fine, and I play MSH vs SF almost religiously.

I've never had a prob with the 5 in 1 yet, and that's kind of a weird problem. There's no scratches on the cd, is there?

Well, I'd rather not sell it -- it's not working very well, I don't consider it sellable. Sometimes it won't load evne the import game -- though I can usually get it to work if I reset it. Odds are it would break itself in shipping.

I say get one of your's modded.

some light ones but nothing major

Quite truthfully, I've got the same setup, and that happens to me all the time. It's just a matter of trying a few more times until I get the AR to work. Sometimes I just have to give my system a five minute break before it works correctly again, but it does work after some time.
I seriously think that the Memory Card Plus that I used to use with my Saturn fucked up the cartridge slot, though. Damn thing died once, then I got a replacement from Interact, and the same thing happened. Have you used any other carts in there, PV? Hell, maybe that's the cause.

I wouldn't know, having a J-Saturn and all ;)

i tried it on all 3 of my saturns and its the only cart that ive ever used in any of them

and one of them is like ultra mint barely been used hell the little ribbon thing in the back from the battery has never been pulled out from that one and nothing on any of them ive tried like close to the triple digit times and nothing

does anyone know if Xmen VS SF has to have the 4meg cart to play at all

cause i thought Pocket fighter only had a 4meg mode and i notice in options when i play that it says ram mode 1m

so im wondering if maybe the 4 meg part of my 5 in 1 is dead

at this point to replace my 5 in 1 or to get a japanese saturn or to get a mod chip is all going to cost relatively the same price (well a japanese system would cost more)

but a mod chip will let me just have 1 system hooked up i can use my official 4 meg cart then that came with my Xmen Vs SF so i think im going to get a mod chip for it

just hope i know some one who knows how to solder

I have XvSF, and could never get it to work with just my 5-in-1. I had to boot it up with the 5-in-1 in the cart slot, and swap it out for the 4MB Capcom cart at the Capcom logo intro animation. Same goes for Pocket Fighter.

Sounds like you may have one of the older Action Replays, though I knew them as 4-in-1's rather than 5-in-1's. The older Action Replays were not fully compatible with both MSH vs. SF and Vampire Saviour. Later versions of the Action Replay corrected this problem. I have the same problem with that game and cartridge. The only way I resolved it was timing the cartridge swap, but I wouldn't recommend it.

see i thought it was something like that but the 5 in 1s (check the saturn hardware faq on gamefaqs for why some are called 5 in 1s) was not suppose to have this problem

and everything about mine matched the newer 5 in 1s ohhh well

hmmm maybe ill just mod my action replay instead

Xmen vs SF requires the 4 meg cart to play and will not boot without one inserted into your Saturn.

so then the 4 meg part is working it must be the modding being needed thats shown above

which i did open my action replay up and it does look to need that mod

but interestingly it has some other mod theres 2 wires coming off one chip and going to other points

i wonder what that is all about

im going to see if i can get the action replay mod done as a quick fix but i think im still just going to order a Mod chip and mod my saturn then i can use my official 4 meg cart

gamegizmo was the best place i knew to get a modchip. i got mine form them right before they closed. i never had good luck with those ems 4(5)in-1's. my old saturn had a toggle switch and a modchip and thus let me use the official 4meg ram cart. when i changed to this other system with just a mod chip and 5-in-1 i get the same errors. usually theyre chalked up to the cart connections getting loose and after fidgeting around for a while it works but then i dont want to play the game anymore :D

My action replay just stopped working about 3 months ago for all games that require the ram cart (metal slug, KOFs, vampire savior). Funny thing is though, about 2 weeks ago I popped Metal SLug in my saturn to try to boot it up - and it worked, as well as all my other ram cart games. The next day it stopped fucking working again, and i havent gotten it to work again since. Its a newer, Vampire Savior compatiable, AR as well.

Looks like i need to buy a japanese saturn.

much cheaper to get a country switch installed (if ncs still does them) and get the official memory ram.

Just to clarify, what you would need is a switch mod, not a mod chip. A mod chip only allows the playing of pirated/back up games, not imports. A switch mod allows you to toggle a switch between US and Japan. NCS still does the switch mod I believe. I use a Japanese Saturn though, so that's about all the help I can be.

No, the Saturn mod chip is different. It interferes directly with the CD-ROM to convince it that the media in the drive is a Saturn CD. The switch mod actually involves a different part of the Saturn.

no...but everyone seems to think so. all the mod chip is good for is playing backups. you still need to put the system in the correct region to play imports. thats why i said a mod chip, switch official ram cart would be the best.


oh and undead, i looked around ncs and i dont see the switch listed anywhere :(

ncs still does switch mods for around $35, just had mine done about 2 months ago.

as for the 4-in-1, i've never had any problems with Marvel Vs Street Fighter.

so it looks like i can either mode my 5 in 1 one or do a switch mod

well my brothers friend is an electrician so im going to ask him about doing one of them for me
hes cool probably do it for free instead of mailing my saturn some where and then spending another 35 on top of that

i might be mistaken about the actual game but i know the 4in1's could play one of the darkstalker games but the 5in1's can.

Dude! Remember the "rum cart", theres your answer.

Anyway I have one of the old 4 in 1's and it works about 90% of the time. Usually just requires old NES blowing to get it working if it's being gay. And the 4 in 1 plays the Darkstalkers series just fine, even KoF 95(Though you gotta do a fast swap of the carts). Dunno if some are faulty or something...
