A sequel to Berserk is under development for PS2. I definitely like the DC game but the gameplay wasn't spectacular. It needed a few more moves and some more technique or something. If they can improve the gameplay a bit, it will be a fine beat 'em up.
What do you want to see in the Berserk sequel?
Less cut scenes... a lot less.
A better camera, but that can be said for about 90% of 3D games out there.
More variety in weaponry, non-linear story progression, multiple paths and endings.
Oh, and option for both Japanese and English vocals in the U.S. release. If it DOES get dubbed into English, hire the same voice actors that did the DC release, they did a bang up job. :D

I'd want to be able to hack human characters up, not just monsters.
I just got done watching the anime today, and have read up to volume ten in the manga. I've still yet to really play much of the game.
I cant wait to see what the DC game as well as the sequel has in store. Though its a bit much to ask, I wouldnt mind a Soul Calibur style vs mode.

Or they could give him a "poking" move. Like kilik has in soul calibur. Imo the biggest problem with the game was the lack of moves.
Great news, I hope they bring it over here as well. The DC version wasn't the best game ever, but I liked it quite a bit. The action was fun, and the story was pretty interesting. I like Gut's character as well, he may be a bit generic, but who cares, he's cool :p
Excellent news. I really enjoyed it on DC, and I also like the Anime.
I had no problem with the amount of cut scenes, part one had. It told an interesting story so it didnt bothered me. In the sequel they do can add more moves, abilities and gadgets to Guts inventory, and I agree that they have to hire same VA team, that did dubbing of DC game.
did the original have hand-drawn cut sceen? it's been a few years since i played this...
Well I kind of like the fact that he has the same sword as he does in the series so if they are going to add weapons I hope it's of the kind that give you stronger throwing knives and such.
In terms of story I'd like them to make it over the top action with plenty of boss fights.

The DC rev had real-time cut scenes. I liked the extensive cinemas -- they helped flesh out the weird story, and weirdness is essential to Berserk.Quote:

They don't need to change much for the sequel, IMO. Some more moves and death animations would be cool. Most importantly, they need to work in more of the Berserk universe -- c'mon, we want to see the Skull Knight kick some ass!
The fight with Zod (Zoddo) was a great boss encounter. So, I would also like to see some more story/action sequences about God Hand and their minions.
On PS2, huh? So it will be slightly better looking, with some shimmer thrown in for good measure. Interesting.

They don't really say much about it though, just that Yuke's is developing and Sammy is publishing.
Here were problems with the first game, fix these things and we may be on to something:
- Too many lengthy cinema scenes hinder gameplay.
- Repetitive game play
- The game is too easy, I can still remember waltzing through hard mode.
- I've grown to hate the sound of Cam Clarke's voice, and his Puck voice is the absolute worse.
- Who's bright idea was it to have a place a character with such a large sword in tight corridors?
Giving him some more moves wouldn't hurt either.
They had a short video running at Sammy's E3 booth this year that showed Guts swinging his sword around... no real gameplay but it looked really cool :)
Other than the stupidass gratuitous extra blood in the US version and the tight corridor/big sword thing, nothing needs to be changed. Twas one of few 3D games that I've liked.

I've seen the anime. I've also seen the japanese version of the game that had mega blood in it. I've also played the US version which had more blood. The advertising for the US version in the states relied almost singlehandedly on the fact that a certain percent more blood had been added. That is stupid and clearly represents the pigheaded American quantification mentality of "more equals better" which is to me one of the hugest things wrong with our society in general.

Actually, me too! Except that I really mostly import so they wouldn't help me much personally. If VGD had a driveup window I'd have to drive a thousand miles just to get there.

I actually have been wanting a sequel for this game for awhile, since it's one of my favorite Dreamcast games.
isnt the point to a drive thru to get you on your way faster? dude, they try selling magazine subs and game doctors and youd be at the drive thru for like an hour. couple that with the usual bad speaker phone thing and youll go in ordering xenosaga and leave with the psone spawn.Quote:

I wonder where in the story line this will take place. Because the current story arc is kinda fucked up. The series has like... gone D&D this past year.
Asked Sammy about it this year, because we spied a 2 second piece of trailer, and immediatly had to find out about it.
The girl really didn't know much (Do they ever?) but she said not too much has been released about it yet, still in early development.

Berserk- One of the 3 animes I give a shit about. Very much looking forward to a new game.
Yeah, I was referring to the manga. I keep current with the manga as much as I can. The current story arc is weird though. The party has magic weapons and are fighting trolls and crap. It's been very different since the second eclipse/ritual of rebirth. I'm not sure where they're going with the series, but Miura is notorious for planning these things out, so it may well build up to soemthing great, but right now it's a little too D&D for me. And the cool stuff introduced in the beginning of the arc hasn't panned out yet. Just alot of hack and slash.Quote:

Wow, they told you exactly what could be found out just by looking at Gatts for less than a second. Amazing.
Game should be good, I hope they try and copy LotR and give you massive amounts of enemies and perhaps some allies once in awhile. Would really help change up the pace after a few levels.

I just want to fight that crazy Knight on horseback you see in the ending of the first game. He looks crazier than Nightmare in SC.

Although it's been running for 14 years, Berserk was planned entirely in advance, and even in recent issues I see things that were hinted about in the first volume, so unless Miura has decided to deviate from his original plan, it should be good, but I'm just upset because this story arc seems to be taking it's merry time.Quote:

any new berserk game is great news to me..
but give me a high-res 2D (or 2.5) multiplayer beatemup on (or similar to) the guardian heroes engine, some 3D elements thrown in with extremely detailed and sylized hand-drawn characters and environments akin to the manga or anime, add more than a few red pixels, base it all around the berserk universe and i'd be set for this life and the next.

Is Eve of Extinction really that bad? I heard negative things about Yuke's Evil Zone but I ended up loving it so I was kind of hoping Eve would do that for me too.

I need to catch up myself. I'm 2 volumes behind. 3 come June. But I actually have volume 23, but I haven't really read it yet.
Oh I need this, every other game on my most wanted list just took a hit.

my major problem with the "big arse sword in corridor" problem is the fact that once you put the thing away, your fists arnt as effective. I end up pulling out the hunk o' metal anyway and plodd through.
Sword of the Berserk really was evil. It spoiled so much of the anime if you hadn't already seen it. I was an early adoptor of Berserk and had seen it before the game, but if I hadn't I would have been super-pissed.
nah, it didn't really have that effect on me.. I played the game a few months before i saw the anime, and nothing seemed spoiled at all.. I only felt certain moments of revelation, mostly regarding Caska.. I had to go back through the game again to figure out the back-story there..Quote:

You know what happened, but you often dont know why.
Execution is a big thing for me.
This is the best videogame news I've heard in months. Berserk was an awesome game for the Dreamcast. When you were in tight corridors all you had to do was use his arrows or explosive blast. The instruction manual even told you how to deal with tight corridors. I didn't mind the cutscenes at all because Berserk has a great story. The story is just inherently filled with gore. The manga has even more than what the game did. Jetman your right that tree trunk level near the end was really hard, and Nosferatu Zodd has difficult too.
Anyone heard any new stuff about this yet?
