dont do this to me :D actually ive always wanted the 3rd game to be a prequel following the original heroes and fleshing out the once friendly bond between dyne and ghaleon.
:( :(
Unfortunately, Final Fantasy procreates like the vermin it is, while greatness like Lunar is tougher to breed than a pair of homosexual orangutans.
hahah.
lunar 3.
the reason we never saw lunar 3 was because WD controlled the contract. now that it's been liberated, we might see it. on the other hand, i don't see what motivation gamearts has to continue the series as it's not considered to be overly popular.
personally the length of time since lunar 2 and my distaste for lunar 2, has added up to my not giving a crap. then again, if they started releasing details/art/screens for lunar 3 and it looked really lunar-y, i might get interested.
i didn't bother reading that article, but just about every time vic thought GA was working on lunar 3 it was just another project they happened to be doing and he was projecting his hopes onto it.
he's been promising it for years when it's not his to promise. now, finally, it's not his concern. however, i wouldn't become excited all the same at the prospect of it materializing.
i think that GA on-again off-again thinks about making lunar 3 from what i've heard. and that there have been planning documents for years. but planning does not a game make.
in the good news column, if it ever does come out here square-enix would publish it, which means it'd probably get a very solid localization and good promotion. (enix took some sort of stake in gamearts after GX and i assume that transferred over after the merger)
I really hope the world of Lunar stays 2D. It just wouldn't feel the same if it was 3D.
You know the same could be said about Star Wars games ;)Quote:

To be honest it surprises me that Lunar 3 hasn't come out, if I remember the Lunar series was quite popular in Japan at it's time so it puzzles me that they only made two Lunar games (3 counting Lunar Magic School)... a new Lunar game is long overdue :)
i already explained this -- after gamearts saw how well lunar SSSC did in the US they didn't want to make another lunar game while they were locked into a contract with WD. seriously.Quote:

japanese publishers hate dealing with WD. they're not going to get good games in the future. they're percieved as slow, too fanboyish. developers don't want to go with them because they're afraid their games will come out a generation behind the competition and then look old. i know of a specific game i won't name where WD bid significantly more money than the other company but the other company got the game for these reasons.
it hurts WD that they don't have japanese-speaking staff or a presence in japan. also they ask for so many changes in development. that can also effect who gets a game license. another game (not WD related) that i know about happened to go with one license over another because the one company wanted fewer changes made in the localization.
anyway, now that lunar is free of WD the series is kind of dead. in japan and in the US it's not percieved to be a sure thing. grandia is where they took their ideas and inspirations.
like i said, they have been perpetually kicking around ideas for a new lunar game but it seems like it's never going to go anywhere. i'd like to be proven wrong. i don't really like grandia that much.
Ah well, I'd settle for a new Grandia. G2 is probably the 2nd best RPG in this generation.
I don't have much to add, except that I want a new Grandia (not Xtreme) and a new Lunar... those are two of my favourite series ever. :)
Is WD even doing anything anymore? I don't think I've seen a new game from the since Arc the Lad and I haven't heard any E3 reports about them.
They are working on Growlanser II and III as well as a the Goemon game for PS2, I'm really looking foward to Growlanser II & III and they have to be my most wanted games coming out for PS2 :)Quote:

Also they were'nt at this years E3, so thats why you didn't hear anything new from Working Designs.
I hear that the translation for Growlanser 2 and 3 is complete, and the only thing impeding its release is Sonys approval.
goemon failed.
i doubt the xlation of the GL games is done considering that the games weren't CONCEPT approved by sony. you do that at the beginning of the publishing process, not the end.
but GL2 recently popped up on WD's website.
I've heard that their RPG critic has already played complete versions of some Growlanser games. It was from someone on another forum, so I don't know if this is true.=\
So there's no chance at all that Goemon will be released?:(
Why does SCEA's approval division rejects games that were perfectly fine for Japan (Soul Hackers, Policenauts)? If they're the ones that approved State of Emergency, then they're certainly the last people that should be telling us what we want and don't want. SCEA should take down their rejection division and let us decide for ourselves.
What ever happened to Soul Hacker is especially painful for me.:(
Actually, I think Shidoshi(or someone else from Gamefan) once told us that alot of these really aren't cancelled by Sony. According to him the whole Sony killed 2d was a rumor started off by the news editor at GF, who happened to be a huge Nintendo fanboy.
Man, I'm pretty sure that Konami themselves tried to push this through, and they couldn't get it done (I think I heard that here on TNL, actually). The chances that WD could do so are miniscule.Quote:

I don't know what Sony has against GL II & III though. Hopefully we'll see those soon.
Interesting. I always thought gaming publications were full of fanboy-ish bastards, but this? Still, didn't Policenauts got rejected by SCEA due to Jonathan Ingram's cancer stick?Quote:

Damn! You got me where it hurts on that one. :sweat:Quote:

it's unclear why policenauts didn't come to PS2, but i know that the saturn version fell apart because of internal political problems with KCEA and KCEJ, so it's probably a moot point anyway.
KCEA didn't bother "pushing" with goemon cos it's not good. but they did put it up for approval when it first came out and sony rejected it. sony was actually rather fair with goemon and WD in that they offered some elements that they'd like to see added to the game -- graphical fixes, and the like -- that would get it approved. apparently WD was incapable of making this game meet those standards (obviously they'd have to re-contract konami to do more work on the game.)
i don't know the intricacies of the situation. games don't necessarily fail outright, as in the case of goemon. some games just Fail.
of course the approval process is corrupt, and it also changes depending on what else is up for approval the same time your game is being looked at -- or so i hear. if there are great games in the process when you submit your OK game, it's more likely to run into trouble.
ys may have been failed because of play mechanics as much as graphics. even fans like me don't really defend the "run into an enemy" mechanics ys sports. =)
Yeah. He posted his impressions of Growlanser II (the WD translation version) on the WD message board. I don't remember seeing him do the same for Growlanser III, but maybe I missed it.Quote:

Interesting! Exactly what happened between KoA and KCEJ that prevented the Saturn version of Policenauts from being released here (Policenauts was a reason why I got myself a Saturn in the first place and that was long before MGS1 came out). What's the juicy gossip?Quote:

Personally, I still believe SCEA should drop it's approval division.
Growlanser 3 isn't ready yet, so no preview yet. Growlanser 2 is just about ready to go, judging from what I've heard, but there's another rumor (very strong rumor, too) going around that the only way WD got approval was by doing a collection. Growlanser 2 + 3 together in one handy package.
Obviously I've got no facts to back this up but a lot of people out there seem to believe this to be true. It doesn't help that WD has no public relations person right now, so there's really nobody around to say "no comment".
Rumor #2, started by me, right now- Based on a post or two on the WD message board by Victor, and reading between the lines, with no inside knowlege at all, WD will move to Nintendo's camp. GBA ho!

i don't know really. i've just heard some gossip that came out of KCEA at the time. and it's been filtered through another person and being vague in the first place. i think (possibly) kojima wasn't happy with the direction the localization was going. nothing more concrete than that.Quote:

that wuld be good, because as far as GL goes i'd've only have bought them when they hit $20 anyway. =) and depending on my reaction to GL2, may or may not buy GL3.Quote:
