I just read the IGN review too. $50 seems a bit steep for this kind of game, so I'm renting it as well.
Rent is a good call.
In other news, The Hulk has spawned what may be the most hideous controller of all time:

Is this game out already? If it is I'll buy it up quick.
Looking forward to your impressions Captain.
Oddly enough, the PC version is significantly cheaper. I won't be picking any version up though ;p
It's out.
That's pretty damn funny :lol:Quote:

Wow, I didn't think it was possible, but it's actually possible to make a controller larger than the original Xbox pad.
Heh that is quite possibly the worst ever. Anyways, I guess I'll be getting this after school/finals is over or something.
Wow. Color me suprised. I could have sworn this thread would have produced less replies then any other thread I've ever written.
Here's your review, guys (just so you know, and can appreciate this more, I was seriously considering writing this like the Hulk would speak it ;) ):
I just finished the game today. That's not to say it's short, as it isn't, but I didn't have work for a few days, so I played the living crap out of it.
Before I get to the HULK SMASH! bits, let's cover the less interesting Bruce Banner bits. While playing as Dr. Banner, stealth is the name of the game. Tip-toeing around sleeping, irradiated gamma-dogs; circumvebting spot-lights; all that typical stealthy stuff. It's done very nicely, and it's definitly a challenge. I found myself restarting levels a few times because I wasn't patient enough to figure out that last guard's patters.
Cammera problems are a non-issue, as it's fixed at extremely helpful vantage points. Behind Banner's back while walking down a corridor, and bird's eye when extremely difficult sneaking is required. Enemies never get the drop on you, as you can see them all as the enter, however, after they enter, anything goes. They'll hide, they'll run of screen and shoot, etc. Not the best AI, but not dead-stupid either.
The Banner bits were suprisingly fun. I figgured they would be filler between Hulk transformations, but they keep you interested and the adrenalene pumping.
Now for the Hulk. Unbelievable. Simply amazing. It's a typical beat'em-up, but man oh man! they did everything right. The controls are spot on, and the camera behaves much the same as it does for Bruce, save the dramatic angles during a "Rage Attack." Hulk has as many as 40 moves at his disposal, but I find none more effective than the arial dashing punch. Leaping into the air, hold the punch button and the Hulk will charge for a bit, suspended, and then dash to the ground at the nearist enemy. A human grunt will die in a single hit with it fully powered.
The music is nice, but nothing memorable.
And now on to my favorite bits! I was afraid, upon first learning of this game, that Universal would screw something up as far as how hard the Hulk hits, and how much freaking heft he has while airbourne. They didn't! The sound effects for a punch, kick, or throw all resonate with unbelievable force. The Hulk smashes, and the audio would suggest nothing less! Visions of crushed skulls, bones broken through the skin, and mercilessly mangeled corpses, though not portrayed in the game, can't help but manifest in your mind. Excellent! And the jump! When the Hulk lands from a jump you feel it! The floor, reguardless of substance, buckles and spider-webs under your massive bulk! Be it steel, wood, or a fifty-foot thick slab of cement. Nothing is safe from the unbrideled girth of the massive Hulk.
The destructive environments are great too. In the later stages of the game, human grunts get a bit smart and break out the electro-shields. You can't get to them with bear fists, as the voltage sends you flying backward through the air. You need a weapon...and absolutly anything you can get your big, green hands on is a weapon! No metal poles just laying around, waiting for your loving caress? No problem! Smash through a wall and use it's debris to bludgeon your quarry. Or, use your quarry themselves! Send their body hurtling through the air at your next victim!
The game is cell-shaded, as you well know, but it's beautifully done. I don't believe cell-shading has ever been done quite in this manner before. The animation is wonderful and the character models look like they lept right off the comic book page. The story is sold Hulk fair, and the enemies are cool (Half-Life being my personal favorite).
Overall I'd give it a 8/10. Definitly worth buying.
The unlockables will keep you coming back, too. Making of the movie reels, sketchbook images, and "Challenge" modes. Icing on an otherwise scrumptious cake.
Sorry it's broken and doesn't flow well. I'm not quite down with the game review format. ;)
