At the time, I loved DKC1, I had a blast getting %110, or whatever the hell you could get. I don't know if I could play through it again, because there are a lot of unfun spots.
I'll tell you this though, I've always considered the game's sequals to be subpar.
This game was a piece of shit designed by some Digipen students. The level design was so boring that wasn't even funny.
It's not backlash for me. I never liked the game. It wasa fancy tach demo. I can't even say the game truly looked "good" because it was an artistic nightmare with terrible chracter design. It just managed to pack alot of graphics and animation with a lot of color and shading detail. But the gameplay was bland and genereic and nothing about it ever appealed to me. It just isn't a good game and never was.
Come to think of it, somebody must have loved it. Look how many freaking copied it and its sequels sold.
I liked DKC then. I wouldnt play it now.
Donkey Kong 94 was the last Donkey Kong game I will acknowledge :p

I think it aged pretty well - it's still a good-looking game. It's just not OMFG anymore. And the GBA rev doesn't even look that good. Throw in the fact that DKC already came out for GBC, and why should anyone care?Quote:

Honestly, I hated the damn game from day one. It never looked good. Way back in the mid 90's I was put off by the grainy dithered and dull colors, odd plastic look, and horrible character designs. Put that with the fact that it isn't even in Mario's rear view mirror gameplay wise, and I have a hard time seeing why anybody was ever impressed.
I'll back you up on that. The first one is the only 16-bit Sonic that I don't lose interest in 30 seconds into.Quote:

I'll qualify the above statement by saying that I don't enjoy platformers in general, but the fact that I can still play DKC but not other things tells me it's worthwhile.
If DKC is "just a tech demo with bad characters and horrible level design", what the fuck does that make Vectorman? Electric shit?
DKC is about ten trillion times as good as Vectorman.
I still like DKC(Though Part 2 is much better, minus the end level celebrations) and I am surprised about how hated this game is. Though I can see some people not digging it, I can't really see how it could be called shit or trash.
