The game you own that you're most ashamed...

Here it is, the thread dedicated to the pinnacle of your mini or mega mountain of games that you've never looked at, opened, or otherwise attempted to interact with. You know, that title that everyone played and said how great it was that you just could never find the time or the inspiration to play. C'mon, fess up, nothing to be embarrassed about here.

I have to say it's, or that I'm...ugh...

Shining Force III - exactly my type of game from what I've seen in its predecessors and from what I've heard. Had it for years, never opened it, and I have absolutely no idea why.

Xenogears. I want to play it, so many people here love it, but I just never put it in my fucking system and hit the Power Button. One of these days.

Panzer Dragoon Saga.

Steel Battalion. I've put a few hours into it, and gotten to the 7th level (I think, it's the one in the canyons where you have to run away at the end). That's not nearly enough to justify the price tag, though.

Shenmu. I've been waiting for the perfect weekend to dedicate my time to that game.

I've been waiting for a couple years now.

Crono Trigger, Paper Mario, FFIX, Zelda: MM.

All four are in my gaming qweue (sp?) for this summer.

Grandia - I wanted this game so bad when I read previews of the saturn version. When it became obvious it wasn't coming over, I was ready to chalk it up as another game I'd never play. Then the PS version came out back in 99, and I got it in the middle of 2000. I was so damn happy when I bought it that I promised myself I'd play it as soon as I got home.


3 years later I'm still waiting to play it.

Metroid Prime... Five hours in what now, six months?

Zone of the Enders: 2nd Runner

48 minutes of playtine.

Probably not putting in anymore.

Xenogears. But I only bought it a couple of months ago, so I haven't gotten to the point of being all that ashamed of not playing it yet.

Shenmue. Although I no longer have it.

RPG Maker, never put more than a few hours into it, which is next to nothing for that title.
Legend of Zelda: the Wind Waker- got stuck, never felt any reason to seriously try to get un-stuck.

Yeah, but no one raves about RPG Maker.

Phantasy Star II. One of the first games I plan on playing once I get my RGB setup ready to go.

Generally I'm pretty content that people should play what they play and like what they like -- this being the natural order of things. But if I can save even one person from playing the vile and backward piece of code known as Xenogears, my tireless hate campaign will have all been worthwhile.

Back on topic, I haven't gotten around to seriously playing Alundra.

I disagree. But, uh, that pretty much goes without saying.

At least we agree on Grandia II.

Alundra is great, by the way.

That's horrible. Star ocean 2 is so great, you really owe it to yourself to go back nd finish it. And do the secret dungeon why you're at it.

This is a little misleading, I thought this was going to be about games you're embarrassed to own, not things in your pile of shame.

Anyway, I cast my vote to Madden 2002, I didn't want it, it was given to me as part of a package deal when I bought my gamecube, now it just sits on my shelf, rotting away. Honorable mention goes to ssx tricky (GC), still in the wrapper.

The blue box Zelda that was released for the Game Boy Color.

It's still sealed. My only hope is if a Game Boy Player suddenly appears nestled under my Cube one day.

I've got a mountain of sealed PSone RPGs (thank you Target clearance counter), but Persona 1 and 2 sit there egging me on. Really want to play them but it's rare I sit down to a RPG anymore.

Fur Fighters- Beat the first level and enjoyed it, VMU file got erased and haven't gone back.

Zelda: Wind Waker- got to the Deku tree and haven't touched it. I've loved what I've played of it, just haven't taken the time to explore further. *-neo

SC2

I unlocked all the secrets, characters, and went through all the movelists of each charcater atleast once, plus some of them a few times. Played against some friends that are good at fighting games in vs. mode for awhile but I probably won't touch it again or get good at it like I did in SC. I can still probably beat a lot of people in the game though. I expected to be playing SC2 till SC3 came out. Not playing it already.

Gradius Gaiden.

Actually I think I just hate Pikmin for some reason. I think the mistake may have been that I bought Pikmin and SSX Tricky on the exact same day. Why would I play Pikmin when I can actually play a fun game like SSX Tricky? Really though, I just couldn't get into Pikmin...

Shenmue and Rallisport Challenge are sitting unopened. The rest of the games on my list, even though they say "No" for "Done?" are pretty much played. I just like to do absolutely everything in a game before I put it down. Sometimes I don't even put it down then.

I have a ton of unopened/unplayed PC games becasue of the bargain bin mentality i have when I see a game i am semi interested in but not so much console games. I have an unopened DC Last Blade 2. I played the game with friends but I never opened my copy. I had DC Shenmue 2 for 6 months before I put it in. What I regret most though are the games that I played enough to get to the very end but still haven't finished--and now a few months/years later I am so unfamiliar with the game that I might have to start all over again like:

Steel Battalion is such a bitch to set up at times I hardly play it. I have to make sure I will be playing it for a long while when I do set it up.

I have never played the copy of Warsong I had. Note the HAD since I sold it anyway. I often think of what I missed.

I too found this thread to a bit misleading. Games that you're ashamed to own and games that I've never played but own are two different things.

In any case, I got a near mint copy of Metal Combat with everything and I only play it once. Never made it pass the title screen (my Super Scope broke). ); I also got a couple of Genesis games I've never played due to not owning a Genesis and Bio Hazard: Director's Cut.

As for the game I'm most ashamed of is none other than DBZ Legends for the Saturn. I used to be a big DBZ geek a long time ago, but when I stopped being one I realized how shallow this game really was. I also used to own a few unwanted games (such the DC version of Centipede and Mario's Time Machine) that were given to me as gifts from relatives and brother's collection of crap-ass Simpson games from Acclaim. I long traded them since.

I'm not ashamed of any game I have in my collection lately(aside from MAYBE Turok Evolution and The Bouncer) but for the most part I'm very satisfied with my games.

Certain games I only played a bit(Alone in the Dark 3, Rayman 2, Maximo, Headhunter) since I HAVE to play at least a bit, others not at all(Suikoden 3, Final Fantasy 8). But for the stuff I'm really shamed about are more like a pile of shame of sorts. Games like:

Zelda The Wind Waker- I still have like 2 more temples to go, I was in the boat getting the treasures and filling out the map up until recently.

Pikmin- Played it for the irst few nights, saw that I couldn't make that 30 day quota and stopped playing. Its a charming and very unique fun game but I always feel like i never have the time to play it to get the most out of it.

Metroid Prime- Up to the Phazon Mines. I always get owned in this section since the save points are so far and few between. I'll prolly have to dedicate a whole day in the summer for it.

Mario Sunshine- I really loved the vibe it had and I mostly playe dit in the summer because it just felt right to play it at the time. I'm close to finishing it but its release was too close to school starting that I never finished it. I'll most likely finish it this summer appropriately.

Final Fantasy 5. I hear alot of love for it here, but I never got a chance to play it because I've always had too many RPGs. Also, I've never gotten more than half way through Ogre Battle 64, which is really a shame.

I'm trying to play through the first one, but the time limit is frustrating.

When I got my PS2 I bought a buncha PSX games, most I didn't end up playing.

Vagrant Story- played once

Tail Concerto- played a few times

Silhouette Mirage- once

Grandia- played for about 10 hours

Wild Arms- bought this in '97 to hold me over till FF7 came out (convince by the Gamefan review of course). I got far into a dungeon and made it to a boss but didn't save it so I had to start over. Didn't play it again till I restarted a few months ago.

Legend of Mana- I swear this game makes no sense, I couldn't manage to find a way to beat it so I haven't played it in years.

Seaman- What an experience eh? Played it for a week and hid it away.

Hmm, For me it would be these games:

Deus Ex - Heard soo many things about it, but never had the chance to actually try either PC or PS2 versions. Maybe some day, or I will just play the sequel.

Morrowind - Same as Deus Ex - lots of good word, but no play time.

WindWaker - If I ever get over horrendous style, I will give it a try :p

DOAXBV - Ok I admit it, I only bought it for the "graphics".

Shenmue - The fear of possible boredom prevents me from even opening the box.

RType Delta
Skies of Arcadia - I tried REALLY, REALLY hard to like this game. But I'm ashamed to admit that after about 4 hours in, I just couldn't continue.

If you've patched it (or you bought it recently, so it's already patched) the time limit on Fallout isn't a big deal. There's really no reason you shouldn't be able to find the water chip in 150 days. You can also extend the time limit by another 100 days fairly easily. After that there's no more time limit.

I have to get around to playing Fallout 2, also.

That's not really fair. At least some of the animations, the soundtrack, cinemas and the last 5 or 6 hours are tremendous. The rest I could do without, though. But by no means is it an entirely vile game, and if you can follow all the references in the storyline I'd say it's more than worthwhile in the end. Xenosaga I had to tap out on, though. The battle system really is incredibly tiresome, and every Nietzche reference is nullified by some lame cutesy character or scene. I have no idea what they were thinking.

As for the thread - never played? I don't do that. But I do have 4 particularly bad offenders:

• Jet Set Radio Future - played two hours, some guy wanted me to follow him up some stairs, through three platforms (between the first and second, or second and third?), over a bus shelter, down another set of stairs - was it the one on the left, or the one on the right? Grind along three different railings and then a long jump onto a tiny rooftop. I've never been unmotivated so quickly in my life.
  
• Metroid Prime - What a cool game. I'll bet it gets even better after the first 8 hours.
  
• Zelda: Wind Waker - What a gorgeous game. I'll bet it gets even better once you to get to the second dungeon.
  
• Zelda: The Ocarina of Time - I preordered Wind Waker so I could own this game. In retrospect, it doesn't seem quite as pressing as it did at the time.

Anyway, look at the above four games, and you have my exact summer playlist once I get done with PSO.
