What game made you a gamer?

What game or games made you finally decide that gaming was going to more than just an occasional pastime for you . I have to say that A Link to the Past, Sonic 2 and Super Metroid were the games that started me on the road to playing games as a hobby rather than just a way to kill time every once in a while.I was in junior high at the time it came out and I can remember being tired at school becouse I had stayed up so late playing.There were some games I really liked before that but none had just so engrossed me. I have been hooked ever since.

First Super Mario Bros., then later Dragon Warrior. I've always played games as a hobby, but those two are pretty important milestones for me.

Super Mario Bros. 3 and Zelda on the NES. God those were good and blissful days.

Pole Position, with the trackball, on an Atari system. That and Duck Hunt on the NES later on down the road got me hooked on gaming.

Castle, a freeware game for the PC

or maybe Hunt the Wumpus on the ti-994A

Space Invaders.

First the arcade game... and then my parents got it for me for my 6th birthday along with a Sears VCS (aka a rebranded Atari 2600).

From then on, I was well and truly hooked.

I play games to kill time every once in a while.

Double Dragon on the SMS.

Super Mario World, probably. I curse it to this very day.

I can't remember, because it was back when Atari and Coleco-vision existed. Chances are it was Pac-man or Centipede. :)

Pinball, then this thing called Space Invaders showed up in my local bowling alley. I've been hooked, ever since.

Space Invaders and Donkey Kong (cheap clones of them actually) on an old Tandy computer my grandfather had.

Gyruss probably, back on the C-64 when I was a wee 4 1/2 years old

It holds a special place in my heart. Being a good game doesn't hurt.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2

hero on the atari 2600. i played many games before that but for some reason that and keystone capers hooked me.

It all started with a little game called "Munchman" for me. A little Pac-Man clone for some old Texas Insturments home computer.

Probably Ghosts N Goblins for NES. Either that or Combat.

Super Mario Bros. had me hooked for life.

Ninja Gaiden 2 and Castlevania 3, the first games that prompted me to buy a game magazine or spend money on a video game. Before this I was content to rent games and learn about them from the back of the box. *-neo

First time I got to play Sonic 2.

Super Mario Bros, which was the first NES game I had the chance to play. I'd enjoyed playing games on the Atari 2600, Colecovision and Commodore 64 as a kid, but it wasn't until I started playing games on the NES that I became addicted to gaming.

It was 1968, I was deep in the jungles of West Afirca rooting in some thick decaying underbrush for the rare Centipede Scolopendra cocinucous for study. The ground was moist and the aroma of decaying wood, fungus and leaves hung steadily in my nostrils. I over turned a promsiseing stone, and availed in finding my quarry. Its hind section lurtched in the air, I took caution not to touch it (it's posion hooked legs would have been terrifically painful). It was then she walked up to me. I had seen her with another troop of biologists crossing the Niger river. A fancy at first, but I always kept my head to my work. Seeing her now made the invigorateing intruige of my hunted specimen disappear, now replaced by a passion of a long forgotten kind. Her amber hair shown beautifully in the canopy-filtered sunlight of a warm June in the Congo. The tree adjacent to her beheld a marvelous Phasmid (a so-called "Walking Stick") of unusal porportions though it held my interests for only a moment. Blue eyes sparkled down to me, briefly narrowing to catch a mosquito which had bit her just above the right knee. It was them, that I knew love.

I'd have to say Metroid. It was the first game that I played where I really felt like I was a part of the game. Crazy...especially considering I haven't cared enough to beat any Metroid game since.

I would have to say that Dig-Dug on the Atari 2600 was the major culprit. I have been hooked on games ever since I played that. My friends would come over and ask me to come play outside. I would say "Fuck you guys. Can't you see I am playing Dig-Dug?!"

Parents bought me a Master System in '87 and I played Astro Warrior/Hang-On and I never looked back.

I was a gamer from as early as I could remember. My uncle had a 2600 and I loved playing it and had to have my own. I loved games like Adventure, Combat, and so many more. I loved going to the arcade and playing Q*bert and Frogger. I loved Game & Watches and played them all the time. I had a Frogger mini arcade system and lugged it with me everywhere...

However, I guess it was when SMS came out that I really became a gamer - since I spent my own money on the games and I was old enough to appreciate it more. At that point the games that I loved the most and played to death were Alex Kidd in Mircacle World and Wonderboy in Monsterland.

I loved everything though. It was my favourite hobby by far. :)

I had just about every system since the 2600 and I loved many games, but the one that hooked me forever was Montezuma's Revenge on the Colecovision. There was just something about that game that kept me playing it over and over again. I got to a point where I had every room on every level(9 levels if I remember correctly) totally memorizes to the point of being able to play a great portion of the game with my eyes closed. THAT is the type of thing that will hook you forever! I'm 32 years old now and I will never stop playing as long as I have hands and can see.

Ms. Pacman is the game that started it all for me :)

First games that hooked me were arcade games... I remember playing Rampage and Burgertime endlessly, along with Yie-Ar Kung Fu.

As far as consoles, I played stuff before, but the game that hooked me was SMB.

Considering I played Pong and Space Invaders on the Atari 2600 before I even have my first memory, which puts me playing games around 3 or 4 years of age, it's no suprise I'm a gamer. But what really cemented it was probably five games. Super Mario Bros., Contra, Super Mario Bros 3, The Secret of Mana, and Super Metroid. Not until those last two did I ever spend so much time in front of a television playing a single game.

When I was six or so saw my uncles playing something on the television and I was like, wtf, you can actually play like...a 'game' on the TV!? All it really took was a few minutes of Black Belt and I was hooked. A suitcase full of other master system games that my uncle let me take back home along with the system was all I needed and I was hooked from day one. Once Genesis came along I was simply in my own world... :P

My dad used to make games for this computer his school gave him in monochrome...my first gaming was there. Sonic was my first real game though...wasn't too long that I played 3D Wolfenstein which introduced me to the superior gaming platform known as the PC *wink*

Sonic 1 or 2 probably, I don't remember.

Super Mario Bros. made me a gamer, but Stuntman made me a man.

Adventure on my 7800 is what got me to look at it more than a time passing after school thing, and Mario 2 sealed the deal. I became addicted to Rastan, R-Type and Galaxian in the arcade shortly after.

Whatever game my Mom was playing on the 2600 when I was 2. I got my grubby little mits on the joystick and never let go.

Mario on the NES got me started.

The Quest to Beat Kid Icarus (Like 2 years) made me a gamer.

I was a hardcore computer game player long before I became a console gamer...but I think the first console game that I was seriously addicted to was Rolling Thunder on the NES...I remember playing that game for weeks, writing down tons of passwords because it had no battery back up...
