Have you ever been driven to piracy?

No, unless one counts checking out 8/16-bit roms to make sure purchases are warranted. I consider them 10 minute test drives, since I never play more. Even if it's a good game it's just not the same on an emu, which makes it easy to avoid abusing this ability.

As seemingly harmless as that is, though, it still bothers me a bit. But convenience wins in that case. I just don't go further.

Uh, I may well have a Hong Kong Special Edition of CvS2 for Dreamcast, but I really can't recall, officer. (Besides, I bought the game legit twice since then).

Only arcade games that didn't get home ports and I usually only just to see what they're like. I'm not against piracy or anything, it's just not worth the trouble when I've got so many legit games I could be playing instead. There aren't many older games which I still like so I don't bother with emulation for that sake.

PS - I have never pirated a single DC game. I own way too many of them though.

Truthfully I've pirated quite a few games. I've never DLed Warez versions or sold pirated games. Although since I have no money for games I often "crack" games that my friend buys or something like that. My argument here is that if I pirate a game I never intended to buy it in the first place. If I did, I'll buy the game regardless if a friend has it or not. I DL ROMS too, which actually isn't pirating considering the companies who made the games don't sell them anymore and FuncoLand doesn't own the right to make money off these games.

Emulation is perfectly ok and as good as the real thing in many cases, try playing them on Xbox. Personally i'm not going to buy a Mega CD for Sonic CD, a Duo for Dracula X or a Whengine for Parasol Stars, that would be foolish.

I have bought over 70 Dreamcast games, most of them at full price and on release. Piracy is perfect as an evaluation tool.

Only various 8 and 16-bit roms here and there. Emulation is great for being able to play games like Monster World IV, Dragon Quest VI, and others that didn't make the trip overseas in English. Also great for arcade stuff (that my meager PC can actually handle). I've never pirated a game that works on the actual console, although I'd download that Dracula X mp3/ISO in a heartbeat if it actually worked on my Duo.

Four years ago I was trying all sorts of games this way - games that didn't have a chance in hell of coming here, like that Kamen Rider fighting game for PlayStation. I saw it on Gamer's Republic and it seemed pretty good. Rockman Battle & Chase never made it here, and I could sorta see why.

I also got to play the Japanese versions of games I already owned domestically - Bust-A-Move, Rockman 8, Rockman X4, Rockman X5, Xenogears (<- didn't play one that too long). And some I didn't own, like Shiritsu Justice Gakuen (Rival Schools) and Final Fantasy VIII, which wasn't even released here yet. I just wanted another preview...

Now that my taste in games is extremely select, I don't need pirated games. Of course, my Dreamcast and Gamecube aren't modded, and the chip on my Japanese PS2 only lets me play American and copied games.

Nope, legal and ethical issues aside, I like to have originals with manulas and inserts to display proudly.
