The Fine Art Thread

I wanted to post a painting or some traditional art or something that is even intended as art by a single person but I find some things more moveing an momentous (not that the acheivements of artist are not great, I love most everything posted here so far, though little is new to me besides the actual names)

I really really like this. For some reason it evokes stronger emotion in me. Though it is a photograph and it's not taken by a person.

Some of the things that have come back from Voyager are also amazeing just to look at, but are unbeliveable in thier scope.

Back to paintings: I'm suprised Raphel's "School of Athens" hasn't been posted. I like that one.

If you're at all interested in remtoe sensing (images taken from above the earth aerially or by satellites in space), I suggest you look at the Space Imaging website. I especially like the images from the satellite IKONOS which has a really high spatial resolution of about 1 km.

Though these images are taken often as a method of collecting data and analyzing spatial issues including urban issues, forestry, coastal management, pollution, glacial movement, and so on ... it's hard not to look at them as art. So many of the images are just breathtaking. I wish I could show the image of the Montréal olympic tower because it is pretty cool. Anyways, have a look at the gallery. :)

I agree, this piece is totally kick ass. I didn't know this until recently but Raph and Michelangelo are both in there.
