Contemplating infinity...
You know, I was thinking the other night about the universe...and how little we really know about the nature of things. I mean, we all assume that the universe is infinite, but can a human being truly grasp the concept of something that never ends? It's easy to say, "woah, dude, that goes on forever" but it's another thing altogether to actually comprehend that. I mean, everything we know has an end: your life, your relationships, the block you live on, your paycheck, your closet, that dark chocolate Mikly Way bar you're eating, everything. But the universe...does it truly go on and on forever? Forever? Try to grasp it. You can't. Somewhere, you'll think, there has to be an end to it. But if there is, if nothing, nothing is truly infinite, what lies beyond? And beyond that?
What's most maddening about this is that we'll never know. Not in a million years. We can turn to science, philosophy, etc. for answers, but we'll never truly know.
Any opinions?
