They do have pretty screenshots, and since it's a magazine I can read it in the bathroom. However, it isn't good for much else, although I will give their latest issue props for two things: Giving Planetside and Advance Wars 2 Games of the Month, and for showing off a shot of Painkillers, which I hadn't heard of before and sounds like a nifty Serious Sam-like rampage game.
- First off, the writing style is crap. It's on the same level as my local newspaper, which is fine as long as I don't bother to read anything better for months on end (re: New York Times, EGM, etc.).
- Their attempts at humor, especially in photo captions, are positively horrible.
- They make things up as they go along, placing blatent lies into their articles. Off the top of my head, there was a Killer 7 preview a while back in which they kept making things up about the game. More recently, they had a MGS3 preview in which they kept calling Big Boss Solid Snake (and even stated "...still sporting his stylish mullet and Rambo-like bandanna...").
- Their scores make no sense. If they absolutely bash a game and call it utter crap over and over they will give it a 5. Unless it's a GBA game, in which case they will go as low as 3. Check out the Hulk, Midtown Madness 3, and Bloody Roar Extreme reviews for the latest evidence of such freakishness.
I like EGM, but GI is truly utter trash. At the very least, they could stop lying just because they can't think of something better to write or simply don't know.
