I loved the Neutopia games. I haven't played them in ages. Hopefully they have aged well.
TG16 Dungeon Explorer did indeed suck.

That's why I asked about the Sega CD version. It's much better.Quote:

Never understood it. There's nothing particularly impressive about Neutopia and yet I love it so.
Korian, part two is a bit tougher, has actual towns, better music, and 8-way walking.
Bomberman Tournment on GBA could be Neutopia 3, except for altering the gameplay for using bombs instead of a sword. *-neo
Melf, is that a port of Dungeon Explorer II for Turbo CD? If so, then yes, I've heard it's MUCH better than the first.
I haven't tried it yet 'cause I don't have a Duo Tap, but I bet the first DE would be more fun with multiple players.
On-topic - I got Neutopia last year from someone on this board (I can't remember who) and I really like it, but I quit while I was on world 3 quite a while ago and haven't touched it since. I was also in the process of making maps for the game (using MagicEngine & Photoshop), but that project is on hiatus, too (as is my Goonies II map project). Thank you, pile of shame.
I like Neutopia, but the sequel was much better. My vote for best Zelda clone, though, would be Golden Axe Warrior for the SMS.

I've always been a big fan of Neutopia. I was just playing the other week, and yeah, it has aged fairly well, imo. It has a very clean look and a good soundtrack, and the boss sprites are as good as ever. I've never played the sequel either.
Dungeon Explorer for Sega CD is ok at best. I dont care for the jerky-ish scrolling/animation. The music isnt too good (I like 2 of them..the main overworld theme and town music)Quote:

The Sega CD Dungeon Explorer PALES in comparison to the TurboDuo Dungeon Explorer 2. DE2 had some really nice music and great looking cinematics. The Sega CD Dungeon Explorer didnt really have any cinematics and the dungeons themselves were dull...it just wasnt the same to me.
oh..I agree with the Golden Axe Warrior comment..its quite nice and its worth getting. If you cant get it then at least emulate it so you can check the game out. Crusader of Centy is very good too!
I don't even think they changed it that much. :) I am amazed to this day that they did not get sued. Still, the game really kicks ass.Quote:

And hey, I liked TG16 Dugeon Explorer. It was like Gauntlet on RPG steriods.
I have Crusader of Centy sitting with about 20 genny games I haven't even been able to play yet. :(
Soon though, soon!
Neutopia rules. Yes, it's a shameless Zelda clone, but if you take it at face value it's pretty fun. I look at it as an opportunity to replay Zelda without having to replay Zelda.
