Ok, I was searching to find the original thread, but instead found a dozen other threads about the same thing, so I decided to make a seperate one as well then :/

That is some awesome Phantasy Star coverart. Looks like it was done by the guys who do the PSO artwork.
Hmm. Cool! Streets of Rage is part of the lineup (still no Shinobi though).
I love the cover art, and the blue stripe down the side brings back memories of the Sega CD cases. Definitely a good thing.
/me prays for a domestic release.
*drool*
Woo, now I can almost pretend the PS2 is a Sega system :D
I gather that's 2500 Yen each? What's that come to these days, $30 or more?
About $21, but they'll end up at $30 or more over here when you figure in import shop markups.
I like the packaging. It reminds me of the later European Mega Drive box layout. I reeeally hope somebody has the brains to bring these out here. ;_;
Ugh... So you guys want to pay for these games for the second or third time?
For Christ's sake, get out your Genesis, Master System, GBA, etc. and PLAY these games right now. Don't fucking tell me you're "praying for a domestic release".
"Oooh, now I can play Golden Axe AND wait 75 seconds for it to boot up". Spare me.
Yes, everyone is an idiot except for you.

Have you seen the screen shots? They are greatly enhanced. PS screens look quite spectacular. It would be a different experience (positive) playing some of these games again.
Maybe picking up a SMS and PS isn't viable for some people.
By the way, you are an idiot.

Remake =/= Port
Somehow I feel the Sony gods will turn a deaf ear to your prayers :(Quote:

Oh, and STFU Tonydoo.
Perhaps people don't already own these games. Perhaps theres a dude out there who's the biggest Fantasy Zone fan in the world and wants to play every Fantazy Zone game ever and this is a dream come true. All sitting with his Fantasy Zone underpants on, all wearing his Fantasy Zone cap backwards, all doing the truffle shuffle.Quote:

What about that guy? You gonna tell him he can't play it. All dissing his lust for a game, all using your keyboard like a weapon, all doing the maccarena.
I'd buy the Fantasy Zone underpants. :noob:
The only bad thing about these remakes is that they're only on PS2. :(
Why? They are not that graphically complex looking. They would surely look exactly the same on any of the current systems.
Where is Streets of rage?Quote:

It's written in Japanese though. :p
sggg: I know, but I'd rather play these games on, say, XBox than PS2. That's just me though.
JMET: Yeah, I don't see Streets of Rage either.
No worries then.Quote:

I am just glad they are coming out on any system. I never ever ever expected to see the likes of Alex Kidd or Fantasy Zone again. ;)
Please guys, someone translate the list of games to be released. The one with V.R., is that Virtual On?
It would be easier to just go here:Quote:

;)
Thanks, sggg.
SGGG: Yeah. At least they're coming out. I'm glad they're enhancing these remakes and not just porting the original like they're used to. We still have no idea if they'll be localized, though. I have my doubts SEGA of America will commit themselves to doing so. However, we might just get some other publisher like THQ to bring them over to our hemisphere. Or...Maybe one of us will be crazy enough to start a localization company and bring these games over stateside. ;) Anyone up for the task??
HOLY PHUCKING SHIT!!!!!
I WANT SOR NOW!!!!
Even if another publisher picks them up, they still have to pass the Sony Approval board, which is somehow anti 2d. I highly doubt we'll see these over here at all, which is sad. I'd buy every one of them in a heartbeat.Quote:

But in the meantime, I'll bust out the old Genesis. Take that, Tonydoo.
Completely didn't know about Streets of Rage, so this is news to me.
Very fucking swift.
Thanks, G.

Working Designs did a domestic release of some of the Saturn Sega Ages titles as a collection. I wonder if they would do so again.
If they do, we may get to play these domestically in about 4 years...
But.. but... they are "3D Ages"! :pQuote:

I see your point tho'.. the problem is that they are still rather low-tech old school remakes.
I also agree that the real problem is Sony's approval and/or Sega's decision to bring them out in NA. I don't think localisation would be much of an issue though, since most of the games are pretty simple and straightforward. Also, the translations exist for the Phantasy Star games already so it would just be a matter of incorporating the existing translation into the new game.
I'd say there is a decent change a few of these games may make it though. Some of the series like Phantasy Star have a pretty high profile, so surely someone will realise that there is money to be had here. Plus, Sega might have some more clout with Sony than smaller companies do. They might make a compilation of several games per disc and charge full price. I dunno.. but I think there is some hope.
If they don't I'll definitely be buying the imports though. :)
I really want to see some screen of the Space Harrier remake. So far they have been looking really fantastic from what has been shown. Golden Axe looked a lot better than I was ever expecting. With Sega and Hudson doing these type of remakes I hope more comapanys fallow suit. I just love it!
I realize that. But then how did games like Guilty Gear XX, Marvel vs Capcom 2 and Capcom vs SNK 2:EO get through to Sony??Quote:

And besides, worse case scenario?? We don't get that smelly Sony Seal of Approval. Whoop-Dee-Doo.
If you don't get that Sony Seal of Approval you don't get a American version of the game.
Yea, this isn't like back in the days of the NES. If Sony tells you no, that's it right there, end of story.Quote:

BTW that tagline says.. "POWERUP REMAKE"...something about keeping the "essence" of the original games but adding many new elements.
So these are not just straight ports.
Tony!? is that really you !?Quote:

The love never stops for my JPS2. Best purchase evar. :p
I want at least half of these and since the ones I want won't need any translating, I'll be set.
Import worthy. Seriously... except PS.
Why except PS?Quote:

Don't you know the plot already anyway?
Exactly. If you'v played the first one and know where to go, who to talk to, etc... then where's the problem? You just do the same stuff with super happy fun graphics.Quote:

Great stuff.
Not enough.. I played it when I had a Master System. Which was when they were selling Master Systems.

Ugh, look at those backgrounds. I know the graphics will probably get revised, but that is some ugly shit right there. And the golden axe character sprites looked crap too. Keep in mind this is the same company that did "Shooter Space Shot" on the PS1, and whilst the gameplay can be argued on both sides of OK and shit, the graphics were so fugly as to make it almost unplayable.
we shall see.
looks like GP32-ware right now...
The graphics have been completely redone since then. You haven't seen the new shots?Quote:

Well for one there's a couple on the site in the top link...Quote:

This was the thread about them
Appearently Sega sent over some artists from Sonic Team to help make the game look less like bad korean shareware.
Looks quite a bit better, still like to see some full res screenies.
I don't remember any website reporting on these so here's some impressions. I will use the UK saturday morning show Live and Kicking rating system; hit, miss or maybe (yeah it's daft but it works).
1. Phantasy Star - The artwork is very good but you can tell that the budget is very low. You know how in Japanese SLG games it mainly comprises of high res stills that sometimes animate (mouths, eyes) or change a little during a scene (facial expressions)? It's like that. The dungeons are 3D with a map in the top right hand corner but go into the hand drawn mode you see in screenshots for battles. Personally i'd rather they stuck to 3D graphics in that perspective instead of the high res, minimal animation look. It's ok overall but I wish they'd gone for the STHA approach instead of adhering to the PS formula.
maybe
2. Monaco GP - I've never played the original but this moves very fast. There's all sorts of stuff on the tracks you can pick up for example a fruity jump ability and mario kart style coin things. Seems ok, we'll see. Modes are time attack, grand prix and single race IIRC. It has a 4 player (!) mode also.
maybe
3. Fantasy Zone - Imagine Fantasy Zone, give it 3D objects (that look like sprites if you get me, they can spin, rotate etc convincingly) instead of sprites, keep the gameplay as is and totally preserve the look, feel and levels. This is really great stuff and makes it better than the original IMO. When you defeat a boss, it goes into 3D mode and he will spew out gold until the time runs out. This is NOT Space Fantasy Zone as some people hoped but I like it a lot.
hit
4. Space Harrier - Rest assured, this moves fast. There is not as much colour as i'd have liked but the look is still cool. There are bonuses and power ups as well but I have no idea what they do. Looks 60fps to me also.
hit
5. Golden Axe - Looks like a PSone game. Really fucking bad graphics, slowdown, 30fps (if that), the magic is not impressive at all (FFVII has it beat there) and the animation is fucking retarded. BIG letdown.
miss
Overall not bad at all for $15 a game, I will probably buy all of them to show support for more of this sort of thing. Weird that nowhere else has impressions.
Woo, Fantasy Zone sounds import-worthy. Thanks for the impressions.
I know exactly what you're saying abot PS, but really that's all I was ever expecting. As long as said still artwork is decent, I'm happy.
I think a remake the original arcade shinobi, the one with the ninja star chucking bonus stages, would sell pretty good. I know I would buy it for sure.Quote:

Although I loved SOR 1 and Golden Axe before, they would have to supe them up pretty badly because SOR2/3 and Golden Axe RODA stomp them play mechanics wise. Hopefully it's a full remake with SOR 3 gameplay and SOR1 stages/music. Then I would buy it for sure and it might actually be the GOTY.
Hey, sides, how is the difficulty in FZ comoared to the arcade original? One of the things I loved about the game was that it was the most insanely difficult shooter this side of Gradius III.
Nice. Sounds good enough for meQuote:

Seems slightly faster (in a good way) yet smoother to me. The wave weapon has been strengthened so that it fills most of the screen. Not played it myself mind (just seen footage at Sega Park Akihabara) but everything seems authentic to me so I don't doubt that the difficulty will be. I just hope that it loops (i've seen people here beat so many loops in FZ that they get bored and walk away from the machine after a while).Quote:

That's awesome, FZ deserves it. I'll definately get this when I finally get a PS2...
Thanks for the impressions Sidez. I was hoping Golden Axe would turn out better but at least Fantasy Zone sounds good.
Thanks Sidez. I feared GoldenAxe was going to be shite. It looked horrid from the pics. I'm surprised about SpaceHarrier though.
The easiest way tobeat the last boss on stage 8 is to buy a bunch of heavy bombs and stay at the top left (or right, next to the guy, I can't remember which), and hit those snakes from there with the bombs.
Looping it endlessly? Wow, that's impressive. But anyway, I can't wait to get SH and FZ. I kind of hoped that FZ2 would have been in the game as well, though.
what import shops are carrying these?
Sidez: Thanks for the info! From the way it sounds I am definitely picking up Fantasy Zone and probably Monaco GP. Phantasy Star is a definite maybe, I still have some misguided hope for an English release.
I can't wait to see more of the 3D Ages releases, especially Alex Kidd. ;)
thanks for the info.
i plan to just pick up Fantasy Zone, Space Harrier, and OutRun. i think i might be forgetting one though.
Wow... is that same tired old "Sony is anti-2D" crap still being used by people? I thought that had died by now.Quote:
