I forget what there justification for not using it is now, there may not in fact be one accepted reason. The last one I recall reading had something to do with Natural order. That may be a crack pot idea and not the actual churches standing on it. I find it sort of silly myself, when much of the moral code of the church is about resisting your primal animal like urgies and acting like a smart human being.
The reason is the same. They take the passage about "spilling seed" to mean that the spilling of the seed is the sin being punished, when that is obviously not the case.
