Ok, I was doing my usual rounds and I came across a few statements made about Microsoft trying to partner with Nintendo on their next console. The editor in question said that even some of his inside sources confirmed that something was indeed going on with these two companies. This is the first I've heard of this, am I just out of the loop, or is this news to everyone? Does anyone here know anything about this? Please share. If it's true, I really don't know how to react.
This is news to me. It seems strange that Nintendo would partner with Microsoft, but its what I have always wanted, well not this exact thing. I always thought it would be great if multiple gaming companies would come together and just make one system for everything. I really wouldn't mind seeing this come true as long as I still get to see my favorite Nintendo franchises. I'm really interested in hearing if there is any truth behind this.
The possibilities would be interesting to say the least.
Actually the more I think about it the more it would make sense. If Nintendo and Microsoft were to pair up for the next gen console war it could work. Nintendo could run the show in their native country while Microsoft would run the show here in it's native country. Nintendo's U.S. branch would simply turn into a dev house where they could beef up production on more games since the hardware portion's being handled elsewhere. It may be a little rough at first but it could work with the right strategies in place.
This is interesting, indeed. An MS/Big N partnership could work excellently if done correctly. Not to mention Sony'd be getting thumped on like there's no tomorrow. Not that that's a particularly great thing, but it'd be damn good for N and MS.
Personally I think it'd be interesting to see who emerges still standing at the end, both companies have a reputation for totally screwing partners, and I've no doubt each would be trying to rook the other.
Sony may be the opposition that unites these enemies, but if history's shown us anything it's this: Giants fall. I wouldn't put much stock in rumors of Nintendo, with more money than god, needing a partner any time soon.
Where did you rounded it? There were a few gag articles a while back about such a venture. I think there was one on spong and one on gamespot.
At any rate, if anyone is 'friends' in this war it's Nintendo and MS. They've already had at least one business deal (Rare) and are sorta aiming at different products. Nintendo wants to make a game player where as Microsoft and Sony both want to make small computers for the living room, with joysticks, and commercials.
This...is where I think the validity might not be there. Thier philosophies are totally different in many ways.
Microsoft wants the entertainment appliance, Nintendo wants to make consoles.
Also I think they're both too geared into thier current strategy, which can both be said to be 'working'. Nintendo is making money and GameCube sales have spiked as time goes on. Microsoft was willing to treat the X-Box like the first pancake and give it to the dog, focusing on the next console.
I just don't see how it'd be mutually beneficial to thier individual mindsets. In the grand scheme of things, sure, but not necessarily for how each company wants thier future to go.

I think it's a good idea. Together the systems libraries would be very good.

i would love to see it true. mas has the online vision and nin has the great games, sony woudl still trounce them in numbers, but i could give a fuck if good nin games hit on strong ms hardware. Letthem eat madden,i will take ead first party any day.
So how many times will this rumor be brought back to life? Isnt this like the 3rd time now?
Anyways, I think it would be damn cool if they teamed up. Nintendo just doesnt have what it takes to compete with consoles anymore. I dont care what any of you say. I see the Cube get spanked in sales every single day I go to work. Hell, the software barely moves. Poor little thing. People still look at the Box and PS2 as free DVD players. Seriously, its a HUGE selling point for the average folks. Cube has been doing a little better now that we offer 3 free things with it.

3. Zelda Ocarina of Time. (yes, we have a SHITLOAD)
I hope Nintendo and Microsoft pair up and beat the shit out of Sony.
