The Karate Kid - a 80s classic

You guys remember the Karate Kid Movies? The first one is an all time classic, saw it countless times when I was younger and thought is was an inspirational movie with good characters and some villians which were somewhat unique. I still watch is every now and then and it holds up pretty well.

The sequel was good, I liked how it started right after the first. Things go downhill though a bit as the third seemed forced and like they ran out of ideas, I still liked it.

Not a true sequel but they tried to ressurect the series with The Next Karate Kid, which starred Oscar winner Hillary Swank, watchable but nowhere near the good as the rest.

Any fans here?

The first two were good, but after that I wasn’t into the series anymore.

is this on dvd.. or maybe a three disc triology type thing..?

The first one is a classic, no doubt about it, a great movie.

I love it when Ms. Larusso (sp) picks up Daniel and his date, (Elisabeth Shue) at the miniature golf place if I remember right.
She pulls up in the old Station Wagon, embarrassing the hell outta Daniel, and the other kids say something like "We really love your car Mrs. Larusso". I don't know why, but I found that quite funny, maybe because when I was younger I used to be picked up in an old Station Wagon, so I could relate to the embarrassment factor.

The second one was pretty good, but couldn't compare to the first one.

The one with the red headed female lead, and the bonzai tree on the side of the cliff, that movie was a load of shit. I guess that was the 3rd one.

The one with Hillary Swank, was horrendous. I think I watched it through to the end, only later to regret every minute of it.

I liked first 2. First one is a classic especially. Pat Morita is great as Mr Miagi. Never seen the last one, only parts but it looked pretty bad.

I was at a tournament where the "real" Karate kid was a guest- I guess the story was written about his "true" story.

Chunkier, dorkier, and uglier than his on-screen alter-ego.

Yeah, The Karate Kid is a classic. The ending is, without a doubt, one of the best endings ever. I still get goosebumps watching it.

BTW, it was a serious date movie back in the day, as I saw in the theaters about 4 times. :D

Yep, all three are out, the orignal is sitting on my shelf. But for some reason the orignal is only out in Full Screen mode :(

I never thought it was that great, even when I was younger. Of course, I was really into martial arts, so the hokey approach they took to it sort-of turned me off.

-and I don't remember what the great ending was (just the tournament?), but it was heinously retarded for the bad guy to fall for that move. No one would fall for that move.

The film had character though...sort-of like the Rocky movies; even though the fights were ridiculously inaccurate, it was still enjoyable for the characters.
