I had a dream
About 5 minutes ago, I woke up. I was very tired, but I had to take a piss. Once I was done pissing, I laid back in bed, and started to think about the dream I was just in. Upon realizing that the dream I had was quite, different, I decided to get out of bed and write it down. I'm probably going to get flamed for sharing my dream with all of you, but I for some reason, think it needs to be shared. I wrote it in a Word file, the contents of which follow....
Ok, in my dream, I was reading a story. A novel.
The novel, and by way of imagination, me. I was in a room, and there was a monitor, I think. And there was a boy. And I saw him in two ways. A normal young boy, and occassionaly, flashes of something else. I don't remember if he turned more grotesque, or if he was simply older. We were in long narrow room. There was a worm like beast in the far side of the room, and he was approaching slowly. The child mentioned that the secret to, something, was to devour the beast whole. The beast frightened me, but at the same time, intrigued me. It was unclear if the boy had devoured the beast himself already, or if he was at a stopping point. The beast that I perceived was whole, and as the boy may have been on a different plane than I, he could have a different beast than I. It's also possible that he was IN the beast. The way I saw the boy was on a monitor, kind of like the monitor we see Samara Morgan on in the tape from The Ring. The room was similar to that room also (the one in where she is psychiatrically evaluated. I also saw the chapters of this book in my mind, and it showed a bit of a timeline. At the beginning of the first page of chapter 2 (and one would presume, every chapter) there was a sort of grid. Or rather, a rectangle shape. It looked a bit like a dresser with maybe 10 drawers. On the first couple of drawers, there were phrases, and one of the phrases was highlighted (I think it represented where we were in the timeline.) Under the one that was highlighted, there were more drawers, but instead of phrases, they all had a single dot, and none of them were highlighted. I think that those diagrams somehow would jump back and forth in the timeline at the beginning of each chapter, and as more important points were revealed, the dots would turn to phrases, and the current event would be highlighted, but that's just speculation on my part, because I never actually SAW that. I think I started to devour the tounge. Or, the character did.
In the dream, I'm fairly certain I was reading these events from a book, but I imagined them vividly, and felt as though I was the main character of the book, and was experiencing all of the events.
I desperately wish I had not woken up.

I have alot of mind jarring dreams - they dont really say anything important - but are usually very elaborate scenarious emphasizing some event or emotion that in real life are quite insignificant.
Like two nights ago I had this totally annoying dream that reached back into my junior high school days, it was about me walking out of school and walking towards all the school buses and not finding my bus out there amongst the dozens of them anywhere. That part relates back to real life quite well because I do remember there were sometimes in junior high where my buses' after school location would be changed, or the bus would be different... I usually looked at the number painted on the side of the bus for recognition.
Anyway, this bloody dream completely exxagerated the situation and had me roaming a muddy field in torrential rain looking for a bus that I never found, along with theme park crowds and me losing my backpack in the midst of all it, just resulting in one big stupid mess. Eventually it ended up in some ridiculous dream reality meets shadowbane situation... odd. I was pretty aggravated when I woke up, because usually a dream of mine is funny or amusing in some way, and this one just wasted me nights sleep

Yesterday, I was woken up at 10:30 from a phone call. My friend wanted to come over around 12:30. because I had another 2 hours before he came, I went back to bed. When I woke up, i looked at my alarm clock, and it said 12:36, so I closed my eyes and crawled out of bed. I'm making my way up the hallway, when I open my eyes. For some strange reason its dark. I tried to turn on the lights, but they didn't work. I was worried that my friend wouldn't know I was home, so I turned the TV on for some light. suddenly, my eyelids became really gunky, and they sort of glued together. Trying to open my eyes, I awoke from a dream.
It appears that the moment I looked at the alarm clock and shut my eyes I fell back asleep instantly and was in a dream. I've never gotten into a dream state that fast in my life. I know for a fact that I really looked at the alarm clock, because:
a) in dreams, digital clocks almost always display jargon
and
b) It was raining when I woke up at 12:36 and it wasn't when I went back to bed at 10:30, so I had to be awake to notice the change in weather.
what really annoyed me was the fact that the light switches not working is a textbook reality check (if you are in a dream, light switches almost never work. They are either permanently on or off.), so I had a perfect opportunity for some lucid fun, but I was a dick and didn't pick up on the signals.
-
man - lucid dreams happen more often to people than most realize... but like you said it's hard to pick up on it.
-
Man...I was dreaming that I was playing DonPachi Death Label...
...but DonPachi doesn't have a DL and it really wasn't anything like DonPachi anyway. Oh and the arcade stick was this huge lever that you only could push up or down. Pretty wack.
If any of you are still in school: do you guys ever have dreams that you're in classes you aren't in and you're going to fail? I always seem to have this dream where I'm in Spanish class and I'm failing because I haven't been to class in 4 weeks...I've missed a test and a lot of homework. Before I wake up though, I realize that I haven't taken Spanish in 4 years so it can't be real. Makes me feel good :P

lucid dreams are great fun. I usually have around 4 a week now, but its been going down. at one time I was having them around 6 times a week, which was crazy cool.
want to see something interesting in a dream? Try and read something twice. It simply won't happen.

shit Bobvilla - I had a dream like that a couple months back. It was almost exactly like you described.. and I dunno why I had it - I'm like every normal college student, for the most part I attend classes but skip days occasionally when I know its not nessecary for me to be there. Anyway - the dream:
I was in this wierd hybrid type school where it looked like my old high school (except with a huge atruim styled building with escalators that went up like 100 ft in the air to the second story without being supported by anything it seemed, but I was taking college classes. It was like the end of the semester. I remember I was in some hallway looking at my schedule for some odd reason and saw that there was some science class listed on there that I had completely forgotten that I'd signed up for - and it was too late to drop! Apparently, I had gone the first couple days and just skipped the rest of the days so much that I'd forgotten I had taken the class.
So I'm panicking as I'm walking into this science (I can't recall what science it was) class and walk up to the lady professor before class who says "well, look at the stranger" and I proceed to plead and explain my case and ask what could I do... she explains some impossible sounding academic tasks to me that I should complete successfully if I want to even pass the class. I woke up and was of course, completely relieved and exhausted. Fucking dreams.
Oddly enough, a portion of this circumstance actually happened to me back in my irresponsible college days at UH, I was taking some computer basics course and neglected to get all my computer access registration taken care of in the first two weeks so I missed an online quiz or something, and then I quite frequently skipped a couple classes after that (I only took tuesday/thursday) classes and ended up missing a whole test (which is fuck you time in college!) only to find out about it the next time I went to class... I was freaked but my salvation came when I looked at my syllabus whilst pondering to drop the class and saw that the professor would only take 3 of the 4 test grades... the lowest graded or missed test would be dropped.... phew.... I made a C in that class eventually.

I totally know where you guys are coming from.
I sometimes have dreams so strong, in which someone is bothering me or harassing me, I get so frustrated, wake up and yell, "LEAVE ME THE FUCK ALONE!"
Scares the living crap outta my wife, and myself as well.
But of course, I was going through things IRL that were frustrating me, and I'd be so worked up, I'd dream about it constantly.
-
Everytime I realize I am dreaming in a dream I go "Alright! Time for some fun! Wait... no... I'm waking up! NO! FUCK!" Then I open my eyes. It really happens every time. It's a shame too.

I don't really dream. I don't think I sleep for long enough periods of time.
