Victory Road - One of SNK's finest

I used to play this one for hours at the local corner store, fun 2 player. Sequel of sorts to Ikari Warriors but I prefer this. Favorite Combo was the sword and Red gernades, you could advance far with these two weapons used properly. Never finished it. It came out on the NES and they added weird battles that would start when you spoke to someone or something like that. Nowhere near as good as the Arcade. Not sure how it holds up as I haven't seen a cabinet in years.

Any fans of this forgotten SNK game?

Yep, cool game. I liked it a bit more than the other Ikari games from what I remember, probably because it's much weirder.

Victory Road is a damn good game. I just wish it would find a home release in a more faithful port...

I've only ever played the NES version, which contains the worst voice samples ever. To this day I have no idea what the bosses say to you.

Wait, this game is actually good in the arcade?! I only know it from the NES version, which is, no exaggeration, one of the worst official US releases.

You bet it is. :) The NES version is very lousy, very sluggish, and far off in general.

When you are powered up with a sword, red bullets, and red grenades in this game, you're even more of a killing machine than the TX in Terminator 3- especially if you are doing the Maniacal Windshield Wiper of Terror as you go up the screen (turn the knob damn fast and don't spare the ordinance). Nearly any monster that crosses your path will eat shrapnel or even its own bullets if it's particularly luckless.

I could not do this trick on the NES version. :(

I don't remember playing this but it can't be better than Time Soldiers or Mercs can it?

Nobody ever remembers Guerilla War. Personally I thought it was the better than all the Ikari Warrior games. It just took forever to beat.

I love that game. I rented it all the time when I was a kid. Own it now thanks to Funcoland, and still play it every so often. Good, clean mindless fun with unlimited continues :D

i beat guerilla war in the arcade and the nes versions. but yeah, i played the heck out of victory road in the arcade,as i recall the sword was different in the home version,it spun automatically around you like a helicoptor blade, in contrast to the arcade that shot little pellets andspun manually(of course,given the difference in controllers,it couldnt have been any other way.) i used to love the "pit fights" you could get into with different alien mini-bosses.
