i wish you the best of luck.
So now that F-Zero GX has been officially released, I'm sure some fans want to try the memory card uplink feature. So, let's use this thread to inform others of where they can find the F-Zero AX arcade cab. Please tell us if it's the Japanese or American version.

theres the American Version of AX at Fun N Games in the Willowbrook Mall in Wayne New Jersey
Arcade Infinity (AI)
1380 S Fullerton Rd
Ste 206
Rowland Heights, CA 91748-1250
(626) 581-4361
it's $1.25 per game. they have 2 of them. oh, and they're both japanese.
if anyone is gonna go to AI, please PM me so that i can beg you for a ride. my genius brother in law recently formatted my japanese memory card so i'd like to unlock some levels again.
ok it seems the one at FnG is a test site
this is from the official F-Zero website
http://www.f-zero.com
"The F-Zero experience doesn't end at home. In September, Sega and Nintendo will launch F-Zero AX in arcades throughout the country. The unit features a GCN Memory Card slot that enables connnectivity with F-Zero GX."
so it seems the AX ones will be hitting the rest of the country shortly
After some more play, it seems the track quality is a little inconsistent. That one inside the tube track in the middle cup really, really sucks. Not fun at all. I'm also having camera difficulty with the twisty/hilly tracks. No single angle seems to let me see what I want. Oh well. It's still a fun game, but F-Zero Maximum Velocity via the GBA player remains the best F-Zero game on the Cube.
That's one of my favorite courses.Quote:

I've pretty much liked all the tracks and knowing how they can change it gets pretty wild.
Anyone try the hard difficulty story challenges like the 1st Captain Falcon mission where you have to get all the ovals in 60 seconds? Its friggin crazy, it leaves no margin for error and you'd have to go with the top speed tweaking to get through it.
I like the tube track, too... go figure.
My F-Zero GX is using it's own memory card I bought super dirt cheap from some guy trading in stuff. I can't wait to finish my Ultimate Racing Vehicle to use in the arcades, with a 1-up mushroom on the back and Alex (or Ryan?) from RCR on the front, with his finger pointing straight up. Sweet.
I'll second that the tube level sucks.
Everything else is fine though. I like the 1st Diamond Cup level. Love the branching off into 3 tracks.
I like the tube level as well. Anyway, I think the last three tracks from Emerald Cup are my favorites. The casino track, the lightning track, and the last track are all amazing. I haven't played Diamond Cup too much though.
Yes, it is friggin awesome.Quote:

Heh, I don't have a widescreen TV, but I couldn't be left out of the fun. I set it to widescreen and then squash the screen vertically using my monitor's geometry settings untill the aspect ratio is correct. Home-made letterboxing. :)Quote:

This game is seriously kicking my ass... took me so long just to beat Samurai Goroh in story mode.
And I'm playing it on the parents 50 some odd inch widescreen TV in progressive scan mode and it's just unbelievable. It almosts get me dizzy at times, which just never happens. Too bad after the weekend's over it's back to the regular old tv heh.
Anyone notice the old school F-Zero remix when you're racing Goroh in story mode (assuming it's Red Canyon but I'm not sure)? I've yet to hear the Big Blue remix mentioned earlier on however. Slightly disappointed in the music dept., but I dig Captain Falcon's theme. Corny but I like it in the same way Sonic Adventure music is enjoyable (sans Knuckles stuff).
Time to go play a bit more.
I hate you all for talking about this game while I have to wait to get it.
Haha... psst, Andrew, don't click on this thread till you get your copy then, problem solved ;)
I can't help it!
I just want this game so badly.
You should. It's great.
Has anyone gotten past any of the story mode chapters on Very Hard?
How the fuck do you get passed Chapter 4? The one where you have to kill the rival and finish first. I've killed everyone but him, I can only catch up to him at the end of the level and lose every damn time. I can't even get the guy to blink red.
Nah I didn't notice that was a remix but I barely remembered that tune.Quote:

Bwahaha... there's a "Very Hard" option for Story mode? Are they kidding me? I was going back through other chapters and noticed Hard mode and laughed at the thought of completing those.
I thought they were exagerrating the difficulty in reviews... but oh man, this game just kicks me square in the nuts.
But now that I know the Big Blue theme is in Story mode, I have new inspiration to beat these damn chapters...
no matter how fast you go, you'll won't catch up to him until the last 15 seconds, so conserve your energy as best you can until then. when he finally slows down, you just have to get lucky. spin attack like mad. i really dislike this chapter, as it rewards luck more than anything else.Quote:

i find it the difficulty refreshing, actually. i haven't been this hooked on a game in a long time. i still can't believe that i spent over two hours on a single chapter (1, very hard) without getting frustrated. it's hideously difficult, but i mean that in the best way possible.

- before you hit the recharge area of the track try to have only 15 opponents left, I got mine down to nine
- the last stretch, use the speed boost to get in front of the other opponents
- keep an eye on the enemy indicator on your screen to see where they are coming up from behind you, use the spin attack to destroy them and they'll propel you forward
- speed boost in front of the boss, and spin attack like crazy
Good Luck! :)

How many chapters are there?
I'm stuck on the third one, in that 12 person Casino race. Best I've done is sixth place but at least it seems doable... the amount of cursing that took place trying to beat Goroh was a lot (there was even more cursing when I finally beat him, that bastard ;) ).
I'm wondering if it's worth a drive from Connecticut to New Jersey to play the game in the arcades (and unlock the AX stuff in GX). How far from NYC is this arcade you keep mentioning?
hmmmm id say like 20 - 30 minutes from NYC
That's not too bad. One of these weekends I'll have to make the trek then, provided no AX machines rear their head anywhere in CT throughout September. Thanks for the info Shin.
I unlocked the diamond cup (really cool levels) and have made it to Mission 8. What a pain in the ass. I've gotten so close to the end and then BAM. Hit a wall, bounce off, hit it again and I'm dead. It's a hard game but it rewards your skill and persistance. Quality game.
Yeah, I have to get myself out to Fun and Games too..
Oh, and just a heads up, 8 on the Break in Dunellen, NJ is trying to get a F-Zero machine but having trouble doing so. I wouldn't say it's definitly not gonna happen though considering they struggled getting a Beatmania IIDX machine but eventually pulled through.
I'll keep you guys posted to whether they actually get one or not.
not yet. i'm thinking of going on tuesday after work.Quote:

Remember, you don't need to constantly get 1st place to win, you just need to score higher than anybody else.
As for the 4th story chapter, killing people raises your energy, so just zoom, spin into people, hit them from the sides, etc. Kill, kill, kill, then the leader will slow down to you, so kill him, too. That's about it.
You can unlock the big blue music for the big blue stage once you beat the 4 cups on master. It costs more than the ax tracks though.Quote:

If you're neck and neck with someone, hit them with a side attack when you're a little ahead of them, and you'll get a quick burst of speed. The spin attack isn't that good, because it slows you down, but it'll let you boost through a crowd, and might get you some kills, so it's all good.
It's not all about getting 1st place, it's about strategy and working the points for you.
Yeah I was sort of wondering if it would just replace it outright or if you had the chance to toggle between the two.
Thanks for the heads up.
If, from the moment the game powered up it was set to Expert Mode, and there was no alternative, then I can see the complaint.Quote:
I can see why some reviews kinda slammed the game for its difficulty.
Now, the game has Beginner and Normal modes. If you just want to play and not get frustrated, play on Normal. It's normal, average. Not too hard, not too easy. Lots of fun. I enjoyed it thoroughly.
Now, when you master the courses, you might get a little tired of lapping people.
"*YAWN*," you say, "this game doesn't challenge me at all! I wish there was something more to it."
Well then, friend, try the Expert Mode. It's for F-Zero experts, you know. Those that have extensively played the game and know all the tricks. Extensively probably referring to more than the week the game has been out.

2) Are there any more unlockable cups?
3) How many unlockable tracks are there?
Thanks.
you unlock diamond by beating all the cups in standard.
aside from diamond, there's the AX cup which you get by beating all the cups in master.
all in all, 10 unlockable levels.
theres one more ax track, which is just the first story mode level apparently. not sure if thats unlocked with the rest of the ax tracks or another way.
i need to find a damn ax machine, no way in hell im gonna get the ax parts/pilots through gx. at least ill have the tracks unlocked soon enough.
I've just unlocked Diamond Cup, beaten the first 3 cups on Expert, trying to beat Diamond Cup on novice. There's no way in hell I'm going to beat all 4 on master, so I need to find an AX arcade machine.
NoFace: I as well am looking for Connecticut Fzero AX machines, any luck yet?
5, but i probably won't be able to get there till 6.Quote:

I was hoping some of you could offer some advice on two particular subjects:
1) Story Mode Chapter 4. What the hell? There don't appear to be any sheild recharge areas so I run out of boost quickly, how am I supposed to do this?
2) Attacking enemies. I really don't think I know how to do this correctly at all.
theres one large recharge area...apparently you havent even gotten that far. and attacking recharges your energy...which brings me to 'how to attack.'
if you use the side attack, basically go right next to someone then smash em. gotta be relatively lined up well for it to connect correctly. for spin attack, sorta the same but harder to pull off well cause the spinning itself can throw your direction off as youre coming out of the spin. in the case of chapter 4 i used the spin when there was a bunch of cars around me. just spun like crazy when i was surrounded and maybe used the side attack a bit as it cleared up.
if you attack enough cars, energy shouldnt be that big a problem for you. after you get decent at attacking, the only real hard part of that level (at least on normal) is taking out the main car.
Wow, my heart hasn't pumped like that from excitement in a videogame in a very long time. My damn rival during Normal was neck and neck with me the whole third cup, making me go all sorts of crazy on those last tracks. Bastard.
The difficulty is not overly-hard, not even close. Anyone who says so is either crazy or has never played a racing game. I've never played an F-Zero game for more then three minutes total (SNES and GBA) and I'm having very few problems. A couple of tracks have demanded that I learn how to turn through them properly, otherwise it's been smooth sailing. Next up, taking it higher with Expert...
I'm guessing Master is unlocked after beating Expert? Also, is there a special boost start or anything?
If I sent someone a "copy" of my license card, can someone try it on a cab out there?

Which brings me to something else...
What is everyones prefered ship? If its a custom jobbie, give us the parts.
Im using the Super Horse Z as i said, its the Sky Horse body, Super Lynx cockpit, and Triple Z booster.
The Lynx and Horse are black while the booster is white. I also put as much of the zebra print on the body as I could. I wish there was a choice to just cover the entire thing with a specific texture. Oh well. It's quite stylish if I do say so myself though.
i haven't bought any custom parts yet, so i've been using the rainbow phoenix. it has this wonderful habit of staying in the air far longer than any other ship. makes jump-crazy tracks (ie. serial gaps,) that much easier.
theres no start boost that ive heard of.
i think master is unlocked after beating the first 3 cups on expert. maybe diamond too but i forget. master will probably rock you on your first time trying it. after a while youll get used to it.
i use the super horse z too, forget how long ago i built that thing. spent a few hours a few nights ago trying to figure out a better config but ended up going back to the super horse, and beat the cups i needed to on master. yeah, the acceleration isnt that great, but it destroys the computer on races with high speed. makes a bunch of the cups in master much more bearable. course its also a bitch if you want to attack someone in front cause you just fly right by them at full speed.
theres also another one my friend told me about, frost lynx g4. i think its aqua goose, super lynx, and titan g4. pretty much feels the same control wise as the super horse, but its slower.
I use the frost lynx g4, and it dominates even on master. I thought it was unique when I made it, but when I checked online quite a few people made it as well.
This is supposed to be really good (similair to frost lynx):
Photon Phantom-G4 (Optical Wing, Garnet Phantom, Titan-G4)
I unlocked the Rainbow Phoenix when AX was in the area and i linked them up and thats what ive been using
the ship corners like theres no tomorrow has a great top speed and like Epmode said it stays in the air which makes it easy to cut out some major chunks of track in some stages
How long is a typical lap? Do single races vary in number of laps?
A typical lap is between 30 seconds and 2 minutes. All the Grand Prix races are 3 laps.Quote:

Hmm... I haven't put in as much time into the game as I want, and NO TIME AT ALL into making custom ships. Maybe I should. I spent all my points in story chapters and racers.
I'm almost done with the racers and I've beaten the first 6 chapters on Normal and Hard.
I've been playing the cups one by one, beating them at every difficulty before I move on, and I'm by Expert on the third cup. Should get past it tonight.
OK, your two questions are very related... you need to know 2 to get past 1. Here we go!:Quote:
Tragic asked...
1) Story Mode Chapter 4. What the hell? There don't appear to be any sheild recharge areas so I run out of boost quickly, how am I supposed to do this?
2) Attacking enemies. I really don't think I know how to do this correctly at all.
In Chapter 4, you get recharged every time you kill an enemy vehicle. Also, you can't catch up to the boss car until the very end of the race, so just take out cars on the way to him. Start with a boost, and spin into the first three cars (remember that to spin you have to hit left or right and Z, nit just Z alone) You might kill one or two. Then, if they're behind you, get RIGHT in front of them and spin. It'll slow you down and you'll nail them. If they're ahead, boost forward and side attack them. You can do it while you're flying past them. One good side-hit and they're dead.
During real races, I almost never use a spin attack. Start off the race, and side attack any straggler you catch up with. It'll give you a little speed boost and probably kill him. I spend the first lap killing people, then the other two trying to place high (while killing more people). Right now, I'm averaging 25 kills in Expert mode, and double that in Normal and Beginner. It REALLY fucks up the scoring system. I won on Expert Sapphire without really knowing the last track at all. In fact, I got 25th place in that race. And I still ranked #1.
Does that sound like a hard game to you?
THANK YOU! Preach on, brother Mech.Quote:

thinkin about using the paper plane as my last custom ship just cause it can fly. but i cant handle it worth shit so id never use it so i dont know. not able to get much done on hard story mode so just waiting on an ax machine for those new parts to test out.
Yeah, Im pretty much in the same boat. Those hard story missions are... well, hard. I'll be content trying to get past mission 7, and trying to place first on Master difficulty.
I didn't know you get AX ship parts from beating Hard chapters... I just beat Chapter 5 on Very Hard, and opened up this guy to the left of Captain Falcon that drives the Cosmic Dolphin. So I guess he's from AX. But his ship sucks :-( Not a very good reward.Quote:

I haven't bought the 7th chapter yet, but I really want to...
so what are some of all your buys best times on your favorite tracks
I think the design of that level is basically perfect. Big blue ordeal and mute city serial gaps were what impressed me most about this game. I was afraid of them relying more on gimicky level design to wow people, but these two tracks were on the same level of ingenuity as the best tracks from the original f zero.Quote:

On the harder difficulties I think big blue ordeal is actually more difficult (major reason why I liked the level), because there aren't shortcuts like there are for serial gaps.
Ordeal has more variety than serial gaps, and all of the different elements of the track blend seamlessly into one another. I just can't stop blabbering about how good it is!
I just wish that for the parts where you go through an underwater see through tunnel...it actually looked like you were going underwater. Some neat reflections maybe? Some crazy ass aquatic life?
there's a fish in a tunnel in the emerald league big blue track (ordeal.) i've been practicing the course, so i got to know it pretty well..
YES!! I finally beat the story mode! I feel like I beat the whole goddamn universe. Jebus that was tough.
Now I have to do them all... on... hard...
*cries*
excellent work, EightBit.) i still have to beat the 9th mission, but i hate the damn phantom road tracks, so i haven't gotten around to it.
i unlocked the ax tracks last night. i never want to play the diamond cup on master again. after a lot of practice, it's not too difficult to place highly, but it's so easy to be knocked off the track by an an unexpected bump (or spin attack,) from behind..
anyway, i love the outer space and green plant tracks. even the port town tube course is decent, unlike the boring fire field emerald track.
Thanks! ^_^
The last one was tough till I realised that the other racer was really slow. And I could just take all the time I needed. I was even braking and taking slow turns, then boosting in the straights. I cring at the thought of it on hard or very hard though.
I havent gotten Diamond on Master yet, I can get through the first four races, all aces. Its that damned Phantom Road course though. I cant even place decently. If I could just get out ahead of everyone, Id be fine. But its so damn claustrophobic I usually get knocked off before I get the chance.
I cant wait to see the AX tracks. Time to pluck away at Diamond till I get that cup.
i hate phantom road. it's those sharp narrow turns that get me. also, it's hard to actually see the course because the colors are constantly shifting. luckily, i was already up by exactly 100 points when i reached it, so all i had to do was destroy one car to secure first place.
Has anyone else seen Lily's ending on GP Master mode, "Not a Bathhouse"? First shot, she enters a laundromat. Cut to next shot, she has undressed and thrown on a bath towel while washing her jacket & shorts. Kills some time reading a magazine that reports her win in the tournament. Clothes are now (over)done. She tries to pull on the shorts, but they don't really fit anymore... and neither does her jacket. Oh well. Thanks for the show, Lina!
I rented the game the other day, and I'm loving it so far. The only real qualm I have with it is that it is sometimes hard to tell where the track ends on the side. Falling off due to not being able to tell whether or not something is a barricade or just a strip of light is quite annoying.
