I picked up a Sega Nomad at a pawn shop today, and I'm kind of curious to know more about it. I know that it's a portable Genesis, and that's about it. Now, I know someone here knows everything there is to know about them, like battery life, bascially anything you can tell.
So, lay your knowledge upon me.
Battery life- For too short, maybe three hours of use, tops. Defitely pick up either a rechargable pack, which tend to be pricey, or an AC adapter. I believe the AC adapter for the Genesis 2 works with the Nomad. I use an AC adapter for the Nomad 99% of the time, and they're great. The cord length for them is nice and long, and gives you plenty of slack.
Screen- It's got a decent backlit screen. Some blurring problems can occur, for Sonic games, it kinda adds to the whole thrill of the game, for things like RPGs, or anything text-intensive, it can be problematic.
Button layout- Fantastic, the decision to go with the Genesis' 6-button controller stuff was fantastic. The six face buttons are all easy to reach, and quite responsive as well.
System girth- It's the biggest portable I've ever seen, which isn't really a bad thing. It feels sturdy, and it is. The girth doesn't make the system uncomfortable to hold, which is nice, and is ideal for those who find the GBA to be too small.
Recommended games- these are games that I've found play very well on the Nomad, I usually include a "for Nomad owners" section in my Genesis reviews, and this it taken from that, to an extent.

I've also got a Nomad buyer's guide that I made somewhere on either this computer, or my old one. If you'd like to see it, I can fetch it.
If you don't have an AC adaptor - GET ONE! If I recall the batteries usually last about 2-3 hours. Although I believe if you have a Genesis 2 laying around it takes the same AC adaptor and video cables, so you can plug it into a TV and go. I pull mine out for trips every now and then but that's about it. How much did you pay for it? Those things are on the rare side 'cause they were only available from Toys R' US ( at least initialy ) and they were originaly at least $200, possibly more ( anyone remember? ). And yea, there will be some bluring and some games that just weren't made for a small screen which may be hard to play.Quote:

I've had my Nomad for about 6 years. The Nomad Battery pack lasts about 2 hours. I would'nt say it lasts anywhere near 3 hours.
Games that have fast moving graphics tend to blur. I would'nt suggest a game like Sonic the Hedgehog, but games like Phantasy Star II or Shining Force work great.
My Nomad, with Gunstar Heroes in it occupies a place of honor on top of my toilet.
One of the better purchases I've made.

Look for a lighter-adapter if you drive alot.
I say shining force makes a perfect game for this.

my eyes get used to the blurring after 10 minutes or so.
I'd steer clear of Contra Hard Corps, or any other twitchy games were you have to avoid little white dots, the screen makes things a lot harder than it should be.

Forgotten Worlds is actually playable on nomad if you use a second controller to start the game. Not all that practical on the go, but it plays...Quote:
