Silent Hill 3

I got Silent Hill the other day, when returning a defective KoF DM '99. Had a friend let me borrow his PSX, sat down this morning, and played through the entire game. Got the Bad ending.

First off, it easily rivaled Clock Tower (SNES), if not surpassed it, when it came to scaring the living hell out of me. I've been jumpy all day. And that dark world? Probably the most disturbing environment I've seen in a game. If only they were a bit less vague about the plot...

Anyway, basically, I'm saying that I'm looking foward to picking up SH3 in some form or another. :) The import is a bit pricey, though. Isn't there an Xbox port on the way?

Well, Probably yes, but if they take SH2 route, it will probably come out next year. Just too long of a wait.

I really started playing this last night, and I've already run into a part that has convinced me that this game is going to be brilliant.

1.
The SH2 toliet parody. Remember in SH2 when James comes across a toilet filled with what I presume to be shit and notices an item stopping it up? The game asks if you want to reach into the toilet to get the item and when you say yes James digs his hand in and gets the item. The same thing happens to Heather in SH3, but right before she sticks her hand in the toilet she stops and goes "EEEW! That's GROSS! Who would even think of doing something so disgusting?!?" Funny.

In the same bathroom, if Heather knocks on the last stall door, someone or something inside knocks back! However I couldn't open the door, so i just assumed that it was one of those little things they do to mess with you. As I walked away, I heard the stall door creek open, and I almost jumped out of my seat! I drew my gun, ran back over, looking to see what the hell was coming out, and found nothing but an empty stall filled with blood. Hah, they got me.

im still waiting to be scared by this games shock moments. really the only thing that makes me bite my nails is the enemies (who in previous games were really unnecessary since they were all pretty slow and avoidable). but in this game close combat is inneffective inside with melee weapons since youll usually hit the wall and ammo is pretty sparse so i find myself running.....praying that the next door i find works and doesnt say LOCK BROKEN while something chomps at my ass. but everything else ive seen so far that im assuming has been an attempt to disturb me hasnt. a lot of times its almost there and then they drop the ball and didnt finish the idea. mebbe that freaks some out but not me.

Way to make this game scarier than it is already:

Play it on Sony's Glasstrons, with the volume up. ouch. This is the first game ever that's making me take breaks.... >_<
I didn't think it could get any worse, then they MADE me walk on roller coaster tracks. Evil malls, hospitals, now amusment parks?? I honestly think this game is out to eat my brain!

Did you start your game on hard mode? Because I did, and it was a fucking pain in the ass, especially near the end. Start running alot cause you're gonna need alot of health and ammo for the last part of the game... Alot of people I know had problems with the last boss due to lack of both. I had to start over from the Amusement Park in order to beat it.

Play the game with headphones or a good stereo system... cause normally you'll miss out on alot of music and sound effects that add to the game's atmosphere.

Select both difficulty levels and you'll hear an audio cue if you did it correctly. Watch the cinemas again and you'll see.

Personally, I like the God of Thunder(GangsterGirl) costume the best.

I'd like to play this, but due to my house not being "sunproofed" I can only play it at night (otherwise I get too much glare, and can't see all this shit in the darkness) and lately I've had a lot of company at my house at night time. Maybe later this week...

Well, Some impressions of my own, after playing it for an hour last night.

I always loved Silent Hill series, and so far SH3 is not dissapointing. I love how the opening is done in the same way original SH started, and how it all ends being just a nightmare. Character models have improved alot from the SH2, and the game looks great, but before you find flashlight, some of the areas are too dark to see much.I know it was done for atmosphere but it makes initial navigation through the place hard. Switchblade sucks as the weapon - Period. But since your girls is smaller than guys from previous SH games, its easier to escape/dodge enemies with her, but she's not much of a runner though, and long escapes are harder to do.

Is there a way to make map bigger? Since it very hard to see the layout of the mall, and its very easy to get lost, especially with camera trying to spin around you every chance it gets :)

I can only judge combat with the gun, which is ok, but monsters are pretty tough - damn dog takes about 6-7 shots to kill, and when I tried to fight big monsters with knife just for fun, it ended pretty fast and with not good results for me. So until I find a better melee weapon, I will be running and dodging.

Puzzles so far been easy, but again, I didnt got far into the game, and I didnt seleced Hard Puzzles mode :) For example the book code was fairly simple, but last digit is very hard to see, if you dont look close.

The environments are prefect and fit the style of Nightmare Silent hill. And so do monsters. Mutilated dogs covered in bandages, big stumbling things, small purple walking things, add greatly to mood. Sound fx are also great, from usual monster nearby screeching of radio, to the thumping heartbeat when you get close to dying.

Overall, I'm loving it and cant wait till tonight to play more.

I keep getting stuck in stupid parts. And, if I'm running from a monster and am mashing on circle to open the next door, I keep turning around to look at the monster instead of running.
