My PC has taken to random rebooting as of late. It’s very weird, considering the major upgrade a few months ago. Here are the specs:
Asus P4PE mobo
Pentium 4 2.4
768 Crucial DDR RAM
ATI 8500DV
120 Gig Maxtor 2700 (Win2k)
80 Gig Maxtor 2700
The other components don’t really need mentioning, as I can’t see them being a factor. Anyway, there seem to be extremely varying intervals. Sometimes I barely get started up and it will happen again, other times it won’t happen for hours. Sometimes it seems to happen when I’m running several programs at once. That’s the nearest thing to any common thread. The power supply is new and can easily power the machine. I don’t think it’s overheating either, as the fan is also new.
It really seems like an OS problem. I’ve gotten a few BSODs too (one of which I took a picture of). A friend tells me kernel problems are very bad, but I’d rather not go through the trouble of reformatting. I just got finished with all that. Is there any other solution? Any help is appreciated.
