I've been unable to dig up any real info on this game.
Anyone know how it differed from the NES version?

I haven't played the arcade enough to see the differences, but there's only a few like where some of the blocks are placed, etc etc. Otherwise it's pretty much the same as it's nes port.
I miss that flyer btw. (saves image :D )

Level layouts were ever so slightly different here and there. More bottomless pits, etc. 99.5% the same game.

Vs. SMB actually had some levels from the JPN SMB2 and when you finished the game, you could see all seven of the Mushroom Retainers surrouding Mario and Peach in the end. Otherwise, it's the same old SMB1.
A port of VS. SMB was actually released in Japan for the FDS titled All Night Nippon SMB (with a graphic hack that turned some of the characters into Japanese celebrities) and released as a premium.

Nintendo arcade games are some of my fondest gaming memories.
Playchoice 10 owned me for free in my childhood days.
My brother says he had a chance to buy the cab for $150 at a flea market but my father vetoed him.
This is now officially on top of my list as the arcade cabinet I want most.
With WWE Wrestlefest being a close second, of course.
I played it once in a small arcade in the middle of nowhere once. I was too amazed to actually see if there was any differences.

To anyone who lives in the Washington DC area... there was a SMB cab at Joe's Pizza on Rt. 29 South in Arlington, VA (on the right past the Sunoco gas station). I'm willing to bet it's still there. They also had Gyruss and Pole Position (sit-down). :)
