So... anyone see "Banzai"?

Here's what I thought:

It felt almost like, er, Wario Ware, but it wasn't that crazy. And the announcer was borderline annoying.

And I wish they used actual Japanese text, instead of characters that 'look' Japanese. 3 or 4 characters could have passed as extremely stylized characters, but that's it.

Perhaps they should take a look at some of the games on Hey!Hey!Hey! Music Champ. One was a shaved ice eating contest, and another had two people try to guess what's in a box by using only their feet, though the audience could see.

(and for the curious, "banzai" literally means "10,000 years", but it's used as a sort of "hurrah!" expression.)

FOX's adaptation of Banzai was weak and watered-down compared to the original (that aired on Citytv up here a couple of years ago.)

For those who don't know, it's a Channel 4 production from England.

I "accidentally" saw Banzai for the first time last night. I kind of walked in on my roommate, his gf and Calliander watching it. I sat down to sate my curiosity and boy...I'd have to say, those 15 minutes could have been used alot more constructively (even taking a sh*t would have been a better use for my time). The first scenario I saw was two old ladies in wheelchairs playing "chicken" (ooh Hazel lost), and then the Hulk, a rabbi and a priest riding exercise bikes for the soul of a little boy named Danny. And to my girlish surprise *I'm being sarcastic* The Hulk won. And all the while, that annoying Japanese announcer/narratist kept talking and talking :wtf: . The only thing I thought was cool was when they showed a cartoon rendition of the Hulk, rabbi and priest pedaling (somewhat Southpark-style) for the little boy's soul. The only way I'll sit through that again...is the promise of Doggy Fizzle Televizzle ;).

I think when this was on Channel 4 in England, it had approximately 3 viewers at one point. And that was when it had a slot that didn't require you to have insomnia to watch it!

It did have its moments though. Like the interviewer who would ask one question, hold out her mic, and they'd time how long it took for the celeb to walk off. Or shakey hand man, he rocked. Kinda.

I remember one where they had 5 guys lined up, all facing to the left, and you had to guess who was cross eyed. now THATS genious television.

When is it on?

Anybody beside myself who believes it's actually just a drinking game of some sort, and a great way for FOX to start sending millions of viewers to work with hangovers on Monday? :xx:

:lol:, Calliander believes that this is the only season that Banzai'll have. I don't know though...I'm not taking any bets on the longevity of this show. Americans have held on to worse shows, um...well, this one being the worse.
