Yeah. I'm a good person.
Well, a lot of that information came from you. If anyone is contemplating joining a service, I reccomend finding someone who is currently in it, like FighterX, to talk about the process.Quote:

I'm glad 'Stoner had the common sense to go in aware of their practices.
So, thanks, FX.
If we are making such a subjective assesment of quality of character based on the world's basis for righteousness then hell no. I am a total asshole and will continue being as such from now till Kingdom Come.
I agree! :DQuote:

So...ummm...yeah, the Army basically tried to bend me over and stick it to me.
Highly dissapointing day, which I'll expound upon later.
Okay, so I go to take my physical today, leave at 4 AM.
Shitty thing #1: You can't smoke anywhere, and if you go outside to do it, you have to start all over again.
Shitty thing #2: By the time I did my hearing test, my stomach was rumbling so much, I coundn't hear shit.
So, I'm worried that I'm going to fail this physical, but I don't. I pass with 1's in 5 areas (1's are best) and a 2 in sight. My eyes suck, what can I say.
After that, they make you get fingerprinted, and then talk to a counseler or, more accurately, a 'closer'. This is the guy that when you buy a car, he closes the deal. Cue high pressure tactics.
Okay, so this Special Forces Age Waiver, which was '80% likely' then 'you pass your physical you'll get it' goes to 'Denied' pretty quick. It was dissapointing, but, at the same time, I can understand. Still, since that was a certanty, I didn't pick a plan B.
So, then I'm thinking 'Okay, I'll go home, think about another job and then come back'. Ummm...no.
They want me to sign the contract today. Right now, sign.
Ummm...what? Somewhere along the line the recruiter seemed to forget that info.
From there, it goes to shit:
Can I see this contract, take it home and then come back?
No, only if you sign it.
I don't have another MOS (job), what should I do?
Just sign up for anything, and maybe you can get your waiver later.
Hells no.
Can I go Ranger?
You can go Ranger in September if you want.
Doing what?
Openings for Culinary Arts and Logistics.
Soo....cook or clerk?
Basically.
Hells no.
#1, I'm not signing anything today.
That really sends them over the edge and they start to pass me up the chain to more important Officers and closers. Still, I'm not signing up for something I don't want.
Then they tell me to pick 3 jobs I want to do, and that I'll likely get 1 of those for sure. Umm...wtf?
So, bottom line.
I've passed my physical and can go in.
I need to pick another job if I'm going to do it.
I think there's a 10% chance I'll go in the Army.
It really felt like the old bait and switch and that I was told completly different things by the recruiter.
PFC. M. Van Stone, Cook...
FUCK THAT!
My this thread has grown...
In terms of public opinion, I am a man of extremes: People who know me either HATE immensely, or they think I am a righteous fellow. My parents don't like me, and I have 10+ females who would love to see me suffer for "crimes against humanity".
I am a bad person who occasionally does good...I just don't remember the last time I was nice to a stranger...or puppy dogs.
As long as you're given what you want to work with, that's all that matters. Signing the papers and expecting a waver isn't going to get you anywhere because if there's one unwritten rule the military is known for, it's FUCKING OVER anybody who joins, unless you really know how to kiss ass with the right people.Quote:

You don't want to work your term as a cook the whole time you're in service. Signing that will keep you there, belive it!
Keep waiting on options and hope you can get something solid and be a jerk if you have you. The last thing you need is to have them talk you into a shitty deal and realize you have just been pawned as another grunt in uncle sam's so-called "proud army". (yeah right)
I'd say, fuck'em. Go to collage, get something you like and stick it to the rest of the world. You only have what's rest of your life span to enjoy yourself you know. ;)
I know only one thing "If it's not in the contract, I'm not getting it".
And, I'm too old to sign my life away out of guilt or peer pressure.
I'm 30, I've been to college, dug it, but never again.
In the eyes of the people I'm close to, they would say I'm the best person on earth. I really don't like to be a good person all of the time...where's the fun in that. Sometimes good, sometimes not, meh...
