Things that piss you off in games

I might be alone on this one but I think EVERY game should have a control edit and none of this preset variations idiocy. I've wanted Namco Anthology for a while now and have managed to try it out at 7F's yard but sadly I can't configure things to my liking. Seriously it requires next to no effort from the developer yet they're arrogant enough to think that their settings suit all. It's things like this that put me off retro packages, at least with emulation I can set the controls that suit my arcade stick (and save myself money).

The lack of some sort of sound test mode in many of today's games pisses me off, as does the lack of controller configuration.

although it doesn't piss me off, black & white manuals always bothered me.

im sure i can think of more, im just not really in the mood for thinking right now. maybe later...

I've never ever liked escort and protect missions. Never challenging, just annoying.

And unless H/L2 pulls it off well, the obligatory hot female sidekick ain't too cool either(Not that it's a totally bad thing, but some games just don't need it).

Here's something that really pisses me off: When a really popular game in Japan is planned for the US and is nearly completed, but the English version is cancelled because of the ineptitude (or whathaveyou) of the company's US division. Policenauts for the Saturn being the prime example of this. While KoA has changed for the better in recent years, I still can't forgive them for depriving us westerners of Policenauts.

"Policenauts? Nobody will buy that! Hey, let's take that Legacy of War game Appaloosa has just sent to us and slap the Contra name on the title! Nobody will tell the difference..."

Changed names, changed box art, and features removed.

...and I think "Mobile Light Force 2" fits all of those.

this seems to be a common complaint, but i'm not sure why.. i suppose i haven't been playing the right games, as i haven't come across too many of these in recent years.

when i think of escort missions, i think of x-wing/tie fighter. unless i'm mistaken, the escort/protect missions in those games were rather well done. genuinely challenging, too. shooting down missles, prioritizing and distracting the attacking craft, etc.

Problem with protect missions is the AI of the person/thing you're protecting is rock stupid. Like in Vice City, there are a couple protect missions and the person you're protecting will not only not shoot the people shooting at them, but will gleefully walk right into their line of fire for no reason at all.

Pre-rendered backgrounds in 3D games. Since Resident Evil and FF7 I've just hated them. I managed to absolutely love FF9 in spite of it, but that's the only one that managed to sneak through my dislike of them.
