Transformers: 20th Anniversary Figure, and first pic of the new Alternators Line

If you're a fan of the G1 Transformers, you'll probably have some interest in this. Hasbro has been working with Takara on producing a 20th Anniversary figure for the Transformers line. Looks like Optimus was chosen as the character to represent the TFs:

Also, Hasbro has announced 4 lines for the upcoming year: Transformers Energon (Sequel to Armada), Gobots (Fisher-Price style TFs), Transformers Universe (mainly Beast Wars/Machines repaints), and Transformers Alternators. Alternators is being aimed at the older buyer/collector, so the transformations will be more difficult, and the detail more, er, detailed. The first figure in the line was revealed yesterday at a toy show in Japan. This is a rework of Smokescreen, from the G1 series, as a Subaru Impreza WRX:

that alternator is the coolest thing I've ever seen.

Prime looks fine, but that SmokeScreen Alternator is seriously rough-looking as a robot. Looks cool as car though.

I saw the Subaru Transformers on a messageboard yesterday and perordered 2 ^_^ That is seriously the best Transformer I have ever seen. The detail put into the car model is amazing.

I can kinda see where you're coming from, but the way I see it, they've tried to capture the car accuracy of the G1 line whilst giving a large amount of articulation. Hence all the funky joints. Hard to do with a TF and still make it look perfect. Personally, I think he looks fantastic in both modes, I'm just concerned about the limbs getting loose with age, rendering him incapable of standing at some point.

I love how they made sure all 4 doors open, as well as the trunk and hood. Makes me wonder if they'll try and make a convertible with cloth top. :D

I want that SmokeScreen Alternator... where did you buy it Takumi?

Does that Optimus transform, or is it just a model?

Lhadatt: That's just the mock-up that they'll be using for the final figure. The final figure will transform (although I can't figure out where they're putting the front tires). Should be an actual toy (w/diecast, if they listened to the fans), not a model.

Thanks Wolffen, guess I'll be saving up for this baby. Too bad the colors are random instead of your choice of colors. :(

HLJ doesn't have the Optimus in yet :(. Keep us updated.
