That DieCast Prime is giving me wood. Must have...
-
....I can't figure out how this thing is supposed to transform. The front bumper on the truck is obviously not the same "front bumper" that forms the robot's "underwear" (like the orriginal Prime). The gray stripe underneath of the cab windows is also not the same in robot and truck form. I guess they are going with a transformation similar to the Powermaster Prime or the Laser Rod Prime/RID Scourge where the truck front on the robot is hidden in the actual truck form.

Must.....have....smokescreen WRX.....
will kill all humans to own

DieCast Prime better have a trailer damnit. He's naked without it.

That SideSwipe is going to be OWNED! I hope they do a variant Sunstreaker ( but with the different transformation like in the original series ).

They have the grey Prime up for prepurchase. $100 though :(. I may just ger the Diecast.

BBTS will have the final product. The grey pics are up because they haven't loaded any color ones yet. What was in previous post with pictures from the Hasbro panel are what he'll look like. Takara may change the paint scheme of the Japanese release slightly, but we won't know until close to December. There will be no trailer at this time (not to say that one won't be released eventually, but the $100 price tag doesn't include the trailer).
Doshi, the photoshop pic looks better partly because of the colors used, and partly because the artist colored a plastic tooling sample, as opposed to a diecast metal sample. Getting that kind of look out of diecast would have been difficult. I'm sure some HK company will make a plastic knock-off at some point though. :)

I just got my Smokescreen in the mail today. Let me tell you that it is the most brilliant combination of metal and plastic ever assembled....until Prime hits anyway. :)
The car is very solid with amazing details. Reclining seats, a steering wheel, a stick shift, a handbrake(!).... They really went all out. You can't even tell it's a transformer aside from the split in the back window (where the legs separate) and the folded up legs visible through the rear windows. Every seam and joint is perfectly hidden otherwise. Even if this thing didn't transform at all, it would be pretty cool just as a car.
When it does transform, I am happy to say that it is 100% Smokescreen. The basics of the transformation are exactly the same as they were back in the 80's. The back end of the car pulls out and then the waist rotates 180 degrees to form the legs. The arms come out from their folded position under the hood. The hood flips down and the head pops out of it. Just like all of us remember.....
Only this time it is complicated by 10,000 details. In one of the coolest transformer innovations I've ever seen, they went as far as to use magnets in the transformation. The "rack" that hold the front wheels together for steering (did I mention the wheels steer?) must separate from the arms/wheels in robot mode. The wheel turning gizmo is magnitized to the rack and pops right off. You kinda' have to see it.... The way the floorboards and seats fold up to build a torso is also really cool. Putting the whole thing back into car mode takes an eternity, but is kind of fun. All of the major car structures are created easily enough, but this thing as a LOT of articulation points in robot mode. Every one of them must be lined up exactly. The whole outer part of the car fits together like a frame with a shell over it.
Anyway, I highly recomend this guy to anybody who still digs the 80s. If you'll excuse me, I have to go transform him some more. :)
