My grandparents blow the image up on a non-lbx set -- I taught them how...they have a big ass Sony HDTV and progressive DVD player, but refuse to watch LBX movies...they are now in their 80s and grew up with fullscreen their whole lives, so I can understand their feelings and if they are happy more power to them...Quote:

For the most part, even videogame people don't know or care about the difference between inputs, cables, etc...people don't realize that they can buy a 25 inch monitor for half that of a TV even at walmart and get RGB picture quality on it (I just got a 25 inch Sony kv-25xbr monitor with an RGB input for 75 bucks)...of course they would need to have someone build the cables for them...but honestly, people just don't think about these things...
As for VCR, I have the JVC s-vhs one (connects through s-video) and use it because I have a huge amount of films on tape, especially Hong Kong films...saves me the need to upgrade...and I can record in s-vhs mode...
As for me, I didn't even learn about LBX vs. fullscreen until I started watching HK films, Jackie Chan in particular. I started reading books and he always does his films in 2:35.1 and you realize that watching his films any other way just doesn't work, because he does a lot of zoomed out wide shots...so from then on I became obsessed with making sure all films I buy are LBX, at least for action anyway, sometimes I make due for other films if I have too...
I've seen the average consumer's TV habits first hand when I was a Satelite TV installer.
This was about 6 years ago, on the cutting edge of DSS (directv) and I would say roughly half of the TVs i came across had at least composite inputs.
I never once, ever came across anyone using them. I cant even remember how many stereo VCRs i saw connected to a TV with inputs via RF (I case ya didnt know, the RF out is mono only)
I had this awsome demo I could do where i hooked the Reciever to the TV via RF and S-Video at the same time, tune the reciever to a blank channel and show the customer the difference in the picture noise alone.
Even after showing these people, I would often go back to add/fix/reprogram stuff and they would still be using the RF inputs. I just gave up after a while.
It's worse when you grow up using RF with a BW tube, that was pretty sick trying to figure out what red and blue looked like.
Even then, my dad also had this kickass stereo with both a record player and 8-track running with several RCA jacks that I could plug in just about anything into. Worked great for gaming, but why the hell did it take so long just for RCA video to come around?
