Gamespot's take.
They liked it more than IGN.
EGM gave it two 9s and a 7. Neato.
Their major differences seem to be regarding the second half of the game, where IGN felt the reused levels were a blantant cop-out while Gamespot made it sound like it was hardly noticable. Guess we'll find out which is right soon enough.Quote:

Hmm, Unless GameStop decided to add few more bucks to the price. I will check it out tomorrow, and if it indeed the case, I will just wait till my Best Buy gets it, few days later.
My local Gamestop & EB have the same prices listed, Have you seen a cheaper price elsewhere?

This quote, from the gamespot review, has been on my mind all day:
"As Raikoh leaves pure destruction in his wake--he is so powerful that he can obliterate everything from massive tree trunks to entire houses--and as some of his demonic foes express regret and bitterness as they die by his hand, you'll see that Otogi has a very different tone to it than the typical hack-and-slash action game. Indeed, for a game that's filled with plenty of over-the-top action, Otogi has something remarkably subtle about it--almost a Zen-like quality, through the juxtaposition of the intense combat and the contemplative, philosophical speeches of the princess and some of Raikoh's enemies. "
Gah, tomorrow can't come soon enough.
My GameStop is opening early tomorrow for SCII, so I'll be playing Otogi at around 9:00am! :D
4-6 weeks. Feh.Quote:

And all I wanted that day was the Otogi demo. :(
wow, i am suddenly glad i live in the old people/nascar capital of the world, and new game days are just me and a few other regulars waltzing in, trading dirty jokes with the manager, and walking out with our copy, Cops are a bit too hardcore for me. Hey Mech, don't fuck around, please. Make it six weeks and you'll be happier. The buddy I mentioned in the Sound Off thread tried to unwrap his hand and go back to work too early. He framed houses at the time and took off his gear after four weeks and promptly started fucking up his hand. He has never been the same and after thirteen years will still tell me all about how he wished he'd just moved back in with his parents instead of "ruining" his hand.
Did I mention that I'm psyched for Otogi? The demo was so much fun they had to kick me out of Gamestop or whatever it's called.
Pa
But I thought you hated 3D platforming-types. ;)
Ha! Pa is slowly coming around! I was wondering if you would dig Otogi PaCrappa.

My GameStop only got 3 copies in, and since Dj was whining that he has no games to play, I had to pick up Otogi there(fuck GameStop - they did raise price $5.) :curse: :curse: :curse:
That is weird, I just got Otogi & SC2 at our Gamestop & Otogi was $39.99. I had no idea that store prices were regional.

So far:
[keanu]Whoa.[/keanu]
Otogi seems to bring to hack & slash the same aesthetics that Ico brought to crate-pushing and switch-pulling. The gameplay itself is pretty basic, but the meters-thick mood and atmosphere make a massive difference.
Oh, and I want the soundtrack, if there is one.
I picked up SC2 Xbox also, but I have a feeling it'll be a while before I fire that up.
I hate you all.
Poor Mech :( Hope that your hand heals fast.
Yeah man, that sucks. I'm sure if your hand was OK you would have games to play instead of trying to talk to Andrew. ;) I feel for ya.

So, my store is the only store in the area with a reserve for Otogi (mine)...and guess which store didn't recieve it's shipment today. You guessed it! MINE! The ultimate pissoff. I collected my credit and spent it at the store up the road...but I'm still mad. I thought reserving a title gaurantees it's arrival on day one. :curse:
I've known it was going to be $39.99 for a week now. I thought it was common knowledge, so I didn't speak up. Go figure. The one time I actually beat everyone to the punch and I keep my mouth shut. :|
I'm loving the game. It's much more mission oriented than I initially thought, and the Magic Meter slowly depleting really makes you set your priorities straight.
I'm digging heavy on the Butterfly spell right now, along with the Heretic's Blade.
It's OK Mech. You'll be all better soon. :)
The demo barely hints at the majesty of the complete game. The levels are freaking huge, and frankly, the game is quite a bit tougher than I expected (assuming you're shooting for high end-of-level marks). I got careless a few times, and promptly got my ass kicked.
A very polished game, and a no-brainer at $39.95.
I really love this game. It got about twice the playtime that SC2 got yesterday. :D
It is a bit tougher than the demo, since you don't have as much life to work with. I got stuck at that damn high priest stage, I couldn't tell that I was actually hurting him.
A little side note here, but on the demo, I can give my 2 and a half year old son the controller & he can really go to town on it. He doesn't find the goblets, but before his magic runs out, he manages to kill every demon & destroy most of the buildings & walls in the city. It is pretty scary to see how well he can use an analog controller. He totally grasps how to make Raikoh go where he wants, knows how to jump, attack & use the magic. He is likes Wind Waker quite a bit too.
JM
Well, I'm digging the look and feel of Otogi as well. Too bad that DJ mostly concentrated on getting all the stuff in SC2, and we only got to play Otogi for about an hour. Still so far so good.
Presentation, colors and style are all excellent. As it was said above, magic depletion rate really puts some strain on things you need to do, and makes exploring for hidden items/spirits a mad rush against time. After we were done with first 2 levels, we went back to look for hidden things, and hoping for a better destruction rate. In first level its easy to achive, but later there are way too many walls, houses, lanters and other things to smash apart.
Enemies so far range from easy and slow, to strong and with block abilities, and that made for few pretty intense battles, especially when being cursed and loosing life at the same time. No camera glitches so far, and everything working pretty well.
 JM :) Way to go to raise and train a new gamer !!!
Hopefully we will get much further tonight.
The secret objectives are interesting. You have no idea what they are, which causes you to approach levels in different ways. And even when you get them, you've still no idea how you did, unless you replay the levels with a different focus. Anyways, it's nice replay value. I suppose it's designed for when Raikoh is massively leveled up later on.
Dismantling the mansion piece by piece on the second level was sublime - the level design reminded me of the OXM demo level, in fact. I don't think the lanterns count though, because I know I missed some and still got an A for items destroyed. I think they're just there to get in the way and set you on fire if you're not careful.
I scored a 100-hit combo at the end of the fourth level when being swarmed by the skeleton mages, using a set of twin scimitars (I got them after completing level 3, but have no idea if that was due to a secret objective or what). I thought I wasn't harming the statue at all, as I was being thrown back, but I figured hey, since I can lock on, I must be doing some damage, right? :\
I've had no problems with the camera so far. Only bad thing is I have to wait till tonight to continue.
SC2 who? :)
Bio, That second level reminded us of the demo level as well. But the surrounding colors, the palace building and enemies were different.
Since first few levels are not very enemy poppulated, we havent scored any huge combos yet, biggest one being 16-20 hits.
How do you if you've completed them if you don't know what they are? I didn't even know they were in there!Quote:

100 hits?! Holy crap! I didn't stay around that long. Actually, I couldn't. My magic had run out, so I needed to kill the priest with the quickness.Quote:

I've been challenged to my wits end with the "Water Graveyard" level. The one where you're on a boat and have to kill those blobbies before they weight your ship down. How the Hell am I supposed to get an "A" for destruction if I can't even touch the water?!
And I've come to believe that the flying centipede is impossible. Anyone have advice?
The preview in OXM mentioned that each level has one, and I think it's also mentioned in the manual. The twin swords I got never showed up in the shop; I was awarded them automatically when I finished the level, via an on-screen announcement.Quote:

Cool, that's good to know. Too bad it's only measured by grades and not percentages, so you can't tell how close you are.
I wish I could help ya. I'm still fooling around with that myself.Quote:

I don't think you can kill that bastard yet. You're simply not leveled up enough. I think the goal is to avoid him at this point. I'm planning to revisit him later and give him the beating he deserves.Quote:
And I've come to believe that the flying centipede is impossible. Anyone have advice?
So, wait...if I stay alive long enough, I'll end the level?!
Well, that's a pissoff. Here I was jumping into him, trying to get a slash or two off, taking massive damage from just touching him, when all I have to do is run away.
Well, Thanks for the clue. ;)
I think you should wait until you are way more leveled up for the water level. I think I saw that there is an item that will sustain your magic. Maybe that will make the magic last longer. Also, I'm sure you get more magic, even if your meter stays the same size, otherwise high level magic would kill you in no time. If that is true, once you have leveled up quite a bit, the water wouldn't be as much of a threat. Honestly though, the few times I did hit the water, It didn't drain the magic half as bad as I thought it would.Quote:

I've tried to hit debris at him, and I've tried to slash him directly, but I haven't tried magic on him. Maybe magic will work.
And I'll go back to the water level after I level up. Maybe then I'll be able to do better.
I checked the demo again, to see what level Raikoh was at...30! No wonder it was so easy.
You have to hit him in the mouth, possibly when it is wide open. Hope that helps.
JM
Yeah, I found that out on accedent. I was trying to clear the map of all destructables and he flew by me right as I was executing a heavy slash in the air. He shouted and I took no damage as he passed by, so I figured that was it.
Thanks, JM.
Got it, love it. The combat is deeper than I thought it would be and airdashing brings back pleasant memories of Gunvalkyrie. Magic only seems to lead to an early return to grave though.
My only complaints would be the game is too easy for me so far (boat level is next so that might change) and the camera should be locked behind the character instead of this floating nonsense.
Don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but you can use the air flip (hit Y while air dashing) to gain altitude, which means you can pretty much stay in the air forever. I've hit the invisible ceiling and walls of various levels now.
Gold essence level is my favorite, just for the sheer massive destruction you can do, ripping up the floors and those huge pillars.
Visuals are great, though I think Ninja Gaiden will top it.
Glad I got this instead of SC2.
Yes, yes, and yes.Quote:

Reached level 13 last night.
Level 12 - the water/wind one (sorry I forget the specific name) - is one of the most visually spectacular levels I have ever seen. And that on the heels of the two gorgeous forest levels.
Level 11 has a hidden weapon that I found by accident. I also think this is the level where you need at least a 300 combo as the secret objective - I managed 201 but didn't get anything. Anyone have any luck?
As far as Gaiden goes...based on what I've seen so far, I'm sure it will top Otogi in the visual technical achievement department, but there's something about how everything fits so well together in Otogi that doesn't happen too often. This game has a certain surreal, dreamlike artistry about it that I really haven't seen since Ico.
Did anyone else find the hidden room in the Gold Essence level? :D
I haven't used a lot of magic either, but it was a life-saver during level 12, so perhaps it becomes more important as you progress? In fact there's an X-X-X-B combo that fires off charged magic.......
I like how you're not notified when new items appear in the shop (I'm guessing they do when you level up?). Pays off to check every so often.
You guys finding yourself sticking to one weapon? I am so far - the scimitars - using gold to restore vitality and buy accessories & spells that I don't find.
Might have to buy an XBox for this one.
I certainly think it's worth it. ;)
You know, the level in the demo disc hasn't shown up so far. Even if it does, it would disrupt the difficulty curve: even though Raiko wouldn't be at level 30 as in the demo, it would still be far easier than anything after the first couple missions.
I think the demo level was an exclusive, retooled version of level 2 from the full game, because the basic layout is practically identical (not counting the structures or enemies). If so, that's pretty cool......
Mystic Beads +1! :DQuote:

Since you're so far in the game, have you any strategies to offer for the damned flying centepede? How'd you beat him?
Is level 11 the forest? Got 198 combo there, but could have gotten over 300 if not getting tagged and my hand wearing out. Not as easy as just mashing the button, you got to make sure you can't be hit.
Damn this game is crazy. The only levels I don't like are the first one because it's too small and the centipede because he's a pain in the butt. I beat him by standing in the middle of the level, hopping up when he first starts to turn, dashing forward, then doing a dash hard slash in the mouth. Took three tries to get my technique down, but after that he was a baby.
I didn't really beat him per se, just damaged him enough so that he ran off.
When you start the level, if you run straight ahead past the center clearing and go under the bridge, there's an Attack Increase upgrade. I grabbed that, ran around in a circle until the worm charged straight at me, then double jumped into his oncoming path and hit him in the mouth with a heavy attack. After three successful hits (actually six with the twin scimitars), he said something about being able to see into my heart, then bailed.
My main problem with that level was I kept getting nailed by random bolts of lightning = instant death.
Ammadeau - yeah, level 11 is the forest with all those floating eyeball-fan things. I'm looking forward to retrying that level to see how high I can combo.
Cool, thanks Bio and Amm...can I call you Bio and Amm? ;)
I've gotten into the habit of after totally destroying a level's environment, going back and running through it as fast as I can to see how quickly I can do it. It's amazing how quick you can get a level done after everything else is complete.
I tried using the Locust Sword, but I don't like it at all. I don't like the Twin Dragons either. I'm doing my best to get a deul whield weapon for comboing, but the Twin Flash costs quite a bit of caish.
Post catipillar I charged forward and cleared as many levels as I could without going back, then I hit the fire level and got creamed. The demons block most of your attacks and when I did hit I did almost no damage. Level up time. :)
I'm using sword of binding for main levels and the silver and gold twin blades for going back to get those nice combos. I also like the warhammer because it's dash hard attack feels like baseball. Demon comes up and I knock it right out of the field.
It's very rare that I play a game with no flaws, either in some odd gameplay decision or a myriad of bugs.. but this game really has no flaws. I stopped minding the camera like three hours ago and I'm still stunned by the lack of slowdown. Replace Raiky with a sexy female lead like they're doing for the new Shinobi and I would rate it the best game ever. :p
The final room where the enemies just keep pouring in. I had a 67, then 97, then 198 so 300+ easily. I wouldn't be surprised if you could get 500 using a weak weapon, but I know my hand would wear out long before I hit that.Quote:

Since my computer exploded over the weekend (taking my HD with it... grrr) I put a lot of time into this and got up to the second to last level where I promptly got my ass kicked. Have a ton of weapons now, all but two magics (lightning 3 is deadly) and missing only two accessories (though I know how to get one of them). The low gravity level was really great. I wish you could put that option on for all levels, complete with the visual distortion that's like Nafalgar's Pit in Gunvalkyire.
I haven't stopped...I'm just getting started. I had to take a break so I could take my family on a quick vaction. Now, back to Otogi...
I love how the game keeps track of your environmental damage. There's nothing like going back to a level and seeing complete devastation. Heh.
From has always been pretty decent in the character design dept, imo, but when did they get so good at designing levels? Most of the stages I've played are close to brilliant, with varying objectives, and a real challenge on the destruction component. Great game, From.
I haven't stopped either. :)
By the way, how is one supposed to know when it's time to "repair" a particular weapon? Haven't done it yet (about 9 stages in), and haven't seen anything to suggest I should have...
Well, your weapon takes damage during every level. The longer you wait the less damage you deal out with it, & the more it costs to repair. your weapons are probably bottomed out, dealing the least damage they can. I try to repair my stuff after each level, that way it only costs 400-700 gold to do it.
JM
Each weapon has a vitality meter, which you can see under it's details. Each weapon loses vitality at different rates. The neat thing is lowering a weapon's vitality will naturally make you do higher scoring combos. I tried doing the forest 400 combo thing and I couldn't do it because the twin axes I found there were doing too much damage. :sweat:Quote:

Soon as I clear second to last, I'm going to work on getting 100% of all the souls so I can get the special sword and beat the final baddy in under a minute. :)
Special sword?
From has always been great at designing levels. Those few people who actually went all the way through Kings Field and Armored Core got to see some really kickass stuff.
Their character designers are even more amazing, but usually underutilized. They have some BADASS mech cg for Armored Core, but the stuff in-game often doesn't look quite so good.
Their problem has always been spectacularly shitty play control and/or balance. From the sounds of things they nailed it with this game. I wish I could pick it up, but I'm neck deep in work, I can't even play the other deluge of great stuff that just came out :(
Still going! On Four Guardians mission, using lv. 3 Soryu and Holy Staff. Hoping to finish tonight, then get cracking on 2nd Play.
I am enjoying everything about Otogi immensely...well, except for the accursed "escort" mission!!! Certainly one of the top of the year for me.
Releasing 100% souls gets you an all-powerful sword called Moonlight - it kills most enemies in one or two hits.
Okay, I'm stuck on level 4 ("NONE SHALL PASS"!) Maybe I'm missing something but the freaking boss is impossible.
Help?
Just keep whacking him with dash hard attack and ignore all his skelelton buddies. Only takes 3-4 hits to kill him.Quote:

Right now dj is on Water Tower level, and first few tries he got his ass whooped, so now he wants me to beat that level. Since I'm done with SH3, I can finally concentrate on Otogi.
How're you planning to tackle it? I finally managed by doing the series of rooms with the breakable seals first - lining up those god-awful stone glyphs wasn't easy for me. By the way, can I say that I HATE THOSE GLYPHS WITH A PASSION?!?!?!!?Quote:

I also think I'll wait to go for 100% souls for second replay. Levelling up will make the timed restrictions a lot easier, plus I want to max out anyway (I'm at level 21 currently).
Ammadeau, do you have all the mercy orbs? I missed one somewhere....
Spent two hours on the damn final boss to no avail. I was hoping for an epic, straight-up fight rather than the pot-shot that it is. It's disappointing that the guy is such a cheap bastich (not to mention the beautiful yet annoying environment you fight in). I'm not even sure how close I am to beating him, as he keeps morphing forms (I got to his third - wonder if that's the final one? Grrr). The light attack-to-charged-magic combo works great when I can hit him, but the guy moves so frickin fast I can't maintain a lock-on. Kind of a letdown after the rest of the game was so brilliant. Oh well.
A minute on that bridge level? Way to go, Prince!
Just cleared the second to last level easily. A simple way of doing the mirror thing I found is to face the mirror with the camera behind you so you can see the symbol things coming. Since your attack hits all around you, swing as they approach and it'll knock them right into the glass. Didn't lose a single orb on them. The rest was easier even. :)
I have all the orbs. Did you get the ones on both versions of the fire pit stage? There's also one in the hidden room of the repeat of the golden essence stage.
Yeah, I'm leaving 100% to the next run, but I think I'll collect a few more items before attempting the final boss.
Somehow, I managed to lock out any magic use on a few levels. I was euipped with Scimitars, Needle of Fury, and Phoneix Magic (1), and couldn't use any magic on the replays, or in the current stage (9 or 10). I'm not sure what happened, but when I switched back to the Locust Wing and the Beads, I was able to use magic again.
I wonder if the Needle of Fury locks out magic? I'll experiment a bit more tonight. Has this happened to any of you guys?
It's funny how this game always makes me feel a little lost.
Thanks! I figured it'd be something obvious like that. Will definitely do that on 2nd play, as I hear that level is murder the second time round. It'll also help with me staying alive long enough to get 100% on that level, heh.Quote:

I'm going to need every ounce of help for the last boss - I may end up trying 100% now after all, as I'll undoubtedly level up along the way in addition to getting closer to Moonlight. But I fear that escort level.....Quote:

Prince, I've not gotten the Needle myself, but I have heard of items that cancel out magic.
About being lost - I was a little annoyed with that sensation at first, but I grew to appreciate the vagueness and sometime complete lack of information. Helps you experiment, I guess.
What do you guys think about the revisiting of levels to get the different objectives? The way the game's set up, on many levels you'll have to play them three times at least (first time, 100% objects, time/combo limit). Cheap or clever replay trick?
No, the mercy orb isn't in the same place. It's near the row of columns in the back to the right, sort of hiding away in a corner so easy to miss. I missed it my first two times in fact. It also teleports. Tricky bastard.
I like replaying levels with different objectives. It was something I really wished Gunvalkyrie had because doing the same thing over and over felt like the levels were underused. I find it incredibly enjoyable to go through the level with just the purpose of smashing everything in sight. Especially satisfying on the tower and towerless remix, shards of crystal flying all over the place.
I wish the game told you which levels you had gotten the special item on because I honestly don't remember and there's a lot of them to keep track of. Still need needle of fury. Probably should get that next. I killed the powered up version of that water spirit in ten seconds. :p
Agreed. Forcing the player to go back through levels doesn't always work -- usually because there's nothing particularly exciting to do, and it just becomes a chore.
So far, however, I've really enjoyed the replays on Otogi. First, as Ammadeau mentioned, Otogi realizes the thrill of wanton destruction better than just about any game before it -- smashing giant columns, only to have three stories of the level come crashing down in a pile of chunks, shards, and dust just hasn't gotten old. Also, the special objectives thus far have been just challenging enough, without being overly frustrating. Although, it seems ridiculous to assume that a player would go back and try every conceivable method (# of enemies killed, completion time, destruction component, combo totals, etc.) to obtain the unlockables. Yay for FAQs.
Basically, the replays work because the combat and destruction is so damn satisfying.
Yeah, I don't think it adds cheap length either. The option to repair levels is a very nice inclusion too - helps you track down the intact bits you missed before, or blow everything away from the start. The timed secret objectives basically make up a time attack mode without it being separate from the main game, too.
But I agree that there should have been some kind of indication for which special objectives you've completed. It wouldn't have been hard - just another little stat at the end of each level: "Secret Objective: No" or something similar.
Destroying the environment is amazingly fun and cathartic (especially when you use enemies to smash walls etc), and never gets old. Someone mentioned earlier in the thread that Raiko has some serious weight behind his attacks, and it's portrayed amazingly well. Huge power for such a skinny dude. Revisiting a trashed level makes me think "Lo, I have been here before, ha ha - see what havoc I have wrought!"
I also don't mind the recycled levels, because they're usually pretty different, like the low-grav one (thanks for the tip, Ammadeau - I'll be sure to track down that last orb).
Oh yeah - the demo level is in the game.....kind of. The Valley of Prayer (I think it's level 26) has the same layout - just the items and enemies are different. The fact that the demo is in fact exclusive is a pretty cool bonus.
My favorite level in the game is still Untamed Winds.
So far, I think my favorite leve was the "moonlight" level(can't remember the exact title), where you square off against the demon king from the 5th level. Not that it was particularly hard, but it just felt like something straight out of an anime, especially when he jumps about a half mile to the next place of battle. Simply amazing.
This may bumb Orta off of my #1 Xbox title of the year spot.
JM
I was thinking about this the other day... who am I buying stuff from in this game?
The Princess?
JM
The one in the snow-covered bamboo forest, right? Incredibly beautiful, and perfectly designed for an all-out fight between those two. So cool to trash the forest and smash huge craters in the ground. In fact that was the level I demo-ed for some friends this weekend.Quote:

I'm not ready to call this better than Orta... but the fact that such a thing can be said speaks volumes of this game.

Kill the Hydra?!? Good luck. I'm certainly not looking forward to trying that. I also fear searching for souls on some levels (Hydra, escort being the worst).
I got Soryu (energy/dragon) level 3 for beating stage 19 (I think it was 19 - first with the invisible spirits) in 1:12.
If anyone finds anything additional, or anything incorrect, let me know and I'll edit it here.
Time to get to work! *cracks knuckles* :)
edit: Couple people on FAQs mentioned that the more you level up, the harder it gets to score a 400-hit combo on level 11, which makes sense. I think someone said you're too strong to do it by level 20. Maybe with Butterfly level 1 magic?
If so, why doesn't she just give me the shit I need to do her dirty work? You don't ask the maid to use her own money to buy a mop.Quote:

I'm missing five weapons, one magic (red 3), and one accessory now. I'm going to try for the moonlit sword and use that on the hydra.
She brought you back from the dead. The least you can do is earn her some cash on the side.Quote:

I have no idea the numbers of the stages so you'd have to leave a vague description for me to help with the ones you don't know. :p
Pfft. Brought me back from the dead. If I was brought back from the dead to clean toilets, I'd be fucking livid if Princess-shits-a-lot made me buy my own plunger.Quote:

Thanks for that list Bio. I think I'm about to do the same as you and go weapon hunting. :D

Levelled up to 26, got the last mercy orb and a couple more weapons, and took on the final boss again with renewed vigor.
No success. I think he's impossible for me to beat without maxing out, at least. I can kill his first two forms without getting hit, but his third form destroys me incredibly quickly.
Definitely time to go for 100% and the Moonlight - can't be any harder than the last boss, heh. I regret wasting four hours on the last boss before giving up - that time would have been better spent item hunting.
Yikes, I'm on stage 28, & my character is only at level 17! I guess I should go back & work on my destruction & souls freed rate before I go any further.
JM
Probably a good idea. I'm on stage 10, and I'm already leveled up to 14 (yep, a whole bunch of replays). Of course, this strategy may backfire when I attempt the 300-hit combo and I'm killing everything with one hit.Quote:

Almost forgot to mention that this light wave can also destroy things so maybe I will use it occasionally.
There are five souls on stage 7 (boat stage). Two are in crystals on a island right before the ship with all the bells. The other three are in large masts that pass close to your ship. Don't bother with objects some distance away.
Make sure you kill the hydra before the final boss!
This is important because otherwise you'll pass up the hydra sword, which is the coolest weapon in the game. It's making my replay a lot more interesting, almost an entirely new game. Because its weak hit is just like its strong one, which is the most powerful attack outside the moonlit sword, which means you wreck buildings at combo speeds, but there's a big catch to it. Using the sword drains all but a tiny bit of your life, meaning if you ever get even the slightest scratch you'll die instantly and have to do the level over. Make sure to equip it with the bell of clensing to avoid fire, which will also kill you.
I love this game. :)
It seems that you can get the big combo with butterfly magic no matter what level you're on, but I haven't tried it myself. I wanted to leave it for the replay. I'd say go for it now though since for the replay you actually start at the level you left off on.Quote:

Hydra I got all but one first time by blind luck I guess. The last one is in a candle on the ceiling after the cut scene. I saw it during one of my tries on the hydra and guessed that was it.Quote:

The bitch was getting all the souls on the remixed fire temple stage. I think one or two were in glass shards because I wrecked everything but them first and came up short. The low gravity makes it harder to wreck things too. Grrr.
Ah, OK. Doesn't seem too bad. I figured that being levelled up and having all the mercy orbs would make the revisits easier, and I'm sure I'll reach level 31 along the way. I'm only missing 100% on a couple stages, but I want to try and get all the items too - a rare thing for me with games of this type. I'm usually satisfied by just beating it, but not with Otogi.
i should be getting this game in the mail today..
color me excited.

I had no interest in this game, but I was surprised to read a few impressive reviews recently. The screens look nice. The gameplay sounds fun. Then I read through this thread and what can I say, the game sounds really really good.
It's nice to have another reason to buy an Xbox eventually. :)
It's a great game, sggg.
I haven't gotten as far in as these guys have, but I'm itching to. They way they make some of these levels sound is amazing.
I want to pick this up soon, it looks really good and I hope it sells well enough to get the sequel released here because I really want that one :D
