Make sure you go to the OLD SHOP, then PS2 Pre-Orders.Quote:

i can't watch the videos at work, so.. does the game play any differently when using the old characters? i mean, can the old characters use the new slow-mo moves?
Looks like a revamped ESP Ra. De. system with the added bonus of GALUDA's slowdown feature. Irori's seconary shot looks like it works in the same respect as Ra. De.'s... Not to mention, the x100 bonus is different, too. I can't tell.... But is the player getting a x100 x x64 bonus?
The score is massive, though.
And bullets. More, many more.
Stage 4 map is up on Cave's site, must resist urge to click the link argh.. and Arika has put up a new movie of stage 3.
Now, will I be able to have three shooters in rotation with success? ah the problems one faces :D
edit: noooo wtf it's delayed to june 17.
I'm probably the only one glad that it got delayed. Gives me more time to get myself a modded PS2 now.
Nah, as much as I'm bummed about it, I'm glad it got pushed back too. That will be the game I try to play next academic quarter (summer). Can have only one big game at a time, you know ;p
I'm also glad it got pushed back because of money issues. Importing full price games is just not cheap and currently not feasible. I've been procrastinating putting down that preorder until I'm sure I've got the funds sitting around, now one more month to raise them.
Well, I'll live...but just barely.
You're a stronger man than I am...Quote:

Blame Cave.
Now, a REAL extra would be including ESPRade. I'd take that over 2 lookalikes with a similar score/gameplay engine. But I'm just wishing out loud.
No, blame Atlus. :)
she aint no irori. although black looks to continue j-b's hermaphroditity.
Quite frankly, I'd rather have this extra game mode than ESP rade included. Why?Quote:

I know what you mean, and it was just me wishing in the first place, but it would make sense.
1. Because it never saw a home release and not very many people can get a hold of PCB's or ROMs.
2. Everything in one neat package.
I agree on that, Cigs. Chihiro & Black don't look too bad, BTW.Quote:

I noticed that Sega Direct has the copy up for pre-order with a phone card, so my question is (since every game nowadays seems to come with a phone card) if the cards are usually related to the game or is it just a plain card with no neat artwork? I don't see any reason to pay extra for a standard card but if it has a ESP Galuda motive it would of course help make my life complete.
And the new characters look a bit meh, but then the entire cast looks rubish (though that Arcadia fanart a couple of weeks ago was bitching so I guess it's all about style).
Phone card image is up, the question is if I'm insane enough to splash down an extra 30$ for it?
edit: Arika has put up a file with stage 1-3 on their site, if I'm not mistaken it could be from the superplay dvd.
http://segadirect.jp/Catalog/CustomP...s2_terekab.jpg
$90.00 from sega direct?
Nah but I only know of one place that offers sega direct items and it's uk based so buying from there is like robbery but whats a man gonna do :xx:
For reference (all figures rounded off so it's actually more like 40$, insane but I have a feeling I'll regret it if I don't pick it up now, it's not like Border Down where one could actually find direct copies on ebay):
UK place: 102 $
Sega D: 63$
Stage 4 replay is up on Arikas site (direct link), thanks to Click_Stick for the heads up.
Gah I want to sell my ps2 but now i'm gonna have to get the bloody thing mod'd :/ Well at least i can go back and get DOJ as well
Why would you want to sell it? Is ESP Ra.De. a rare case of shooter love on your part?
just a few more days now
As in about 3.5 weeks, I believe
http://www.videogamedepot.com/shop/p...=01I0014338011
as of right now the release date is still may 27th which is 6 days
Stage 4 is like Sex, with that music.
It's been delayed, June 17 is what you should aim for.Quote:

Actually the delay was announced almost a month ago, I'm guessing it's the arrange mode that takes it's sweet time.
This really nifty banner was up on magicbox, it just made me happy :)
Crosses thumbs for awesome sales.
edit: just reload until it gets it right.
Neat banner. I love seeing advertisements for games I'm actually going to buy.
I hope they are taking the extra time make sure the framerate is stable, because I would cheat my ass off in DDPDOJ exploiting the slowdown in the later levels. By cheating my ass off, I don't mean i would breeze through the levels- but definately last a lot longer.
yes, considering its for GT4.......:DQuote:

Although the differences are quite smal.
The playstation version has less slowdown than the saturn version and also has clearer effects, like explosions, fire, etc.
For some reason the Saturn version displays things like those bonus stars a bit pixilated and out of focus, just like those big explosions and burning buildings.
From what I remember, the sound is just a tad better on the Saturn version, but I could be mistaken on that.
I only have a Saturn copy for the moment, but I'll be getting a PSone copy ones newer releases start to slow down a bit. ;)
That was great.
...VGD no longer has a release date listed. When is this coming out?
I think it's still on for a late june release. I think VGD doesn't have the date listed because they have changed it twice already, and probably got a lot of inquiries. They aren't very good with dates, and don't update them as often as other sites like NCSX.
...and they always seem to ship out their orders after NCS as well (sometimes several DAYS after). And yet, I still order from them...silly me.
6/14/2004 is the official ship date.
Says 6/17 on the latest movie.Quote:

Well, Kick Ass Thursday (June 17!) is fast approaching. So, I think I'll kick this thread. :D
ESPGaluda = the best thing so far to happen to PS2.
When you say something like this I wonder just how many copies the game will sell. Will it break 50,000 like the more popular PS2 games do in Japan? Not even counting games like FFX that break 500,000.Quote:

Where did you find that piece of Seseri art on the High Score thread, J2d?
On Arcadia's fanart page, I have cut it down a bit.
I just put my order in. Father's Day is going to be nice this year. :D

Bah, gotta wait till the 17th to get it. So close.

Mine went out, I'll have it on Friday.
Ditto. Yay.
edit- This is pretty impressive. Announcement to release in about 4 months.
VGD said they wouldn't be getting it until the end of the week, so I downloaded it in the meantime.
Before I blabber on, is the "tate hose" video mode a true low res mode? And the regular "tate" is the high res filtered thing? I never really knew for sure with DOJ.
I watched a lot of videos of espgaluda, but for some reason it came across quite differently when I actually played it- and I mean this in a good way. This game is more classic cave than DDP DOJ, but is still a progress foward for cave in terms of its "inner design".
I was expecting this to look like DDP DOJ, but I was happy to see it has a very classic, hand drawn sprite look instead of the pre-rendered look of DOJ. It's similar to esprade's backrounds, but I thought even a little more traditional. There was only one background I wasn't crazy about, and that is a static "over the city" background which looked rougher than the one in esprade. I especially liked the blood splatters, because it was pure 16-bit style (esprade's seemed more animated).
I'm not much into game music, but once again it has a classic style and is very catchy.
I would say that this game is less like esprade than DDP DOJ is to DDP. Overall I thought it was a kind of mixture of old and new Cave in many aspects, while maintaining some of the esprade foundation.
Lastly, my biggest concern was framerate. Overall it seems to be much better than DOJ, but still had some trouble spots. I of course haven't played the PCB, but a lot of the slight slowdown here and there seemed to be more of the intentional type. Unlike DOJ, the last few levels couldn't really be exploited with slowdown, but there was a small section of one of the early part of the final boss where u could cheat pretty bad (I got it to slowdown constantly using my rapid shot). But it wasn't such a big deal, because the rest of the final boss ran pretty smooth and he beat the shit out of me.
Thats about it- the game is fun as hell. There are some really cool boss patterns, but I don't want to attempt to describe them in words. I'm curious to see if other people feel the same way about it as me.
If anyone is interested, here is an interview with the almighty Clover-TAC [expert ESPGALUDA / ESP Ra. De. player.]
Very interesting stuff.
[Still waiting for GALUDA. Should be here tomorrow or Saturday.]
Framerate problems? Well, I do have an actual PCB of Ketsui and noticed a tad of frame droppage during a few of the busier parts of stage 5. I wonder if ESPGaluda is exhibiting similar behavior to the arcade as both these games' PCBs run on PGM hardware.
Click- Good article. :)
Nice read, thanks.
On the group note, didn't you, Valgar, Bern-D and a couple of other familiar names start one, what happened to that, is there some kind of deep scoring technique hideout where you people hang out?
edit: Just check out the superplay dvd later on, it should be from the pcb and then you can put the versions up against eachother, my guess is that there's not much of a diference between them.
Thanks Click, that was very cool.
JM
ok, game's great and all, but there are only two selectable characters in arrange mode (arrange mode = original esprade character types). you'd think they'd simply bring over each character, but they left out the guy with the basic straight-ahead shot. he's my fave.(
tonic's right, by the way. there's nearly no slowdown. much better than their last port.
Again, compare it to the superplay dvd included in DOJ, I can't spot any real difference between the port and the pcb so you should just blame Cave for their use of slowdown.Quote:

I thought that cave games always slow down intentionaly when a certain number of objects are on the screen, Mode7 can you confirm this? Maybe this has been changed for Galuda since one of the play mechanics deals with slowing the action down.
JM
Depends on the game. Often times there's both hardware and software slowdown; it's pretty easy to differentiate, though. Just look for frames dropping, sprite flicker or wonky animation. None of which were in PS2 DOJ, so I think any complaints there are groundless. The ESPgaluda bonus sprite glitches mentioned earlier were resolved as well -- Arika's been doing a fine job of these ports.
Not really serious framerate problems- like I mentioned it seemed more like the intentional type of slowdown.Quote:

Just spent some time with an arr-mateyed copy, as I didn't see the sense in waiting. Hopefully someone will upload the DVD replay somewhere so I don't have to open my copy period. Anyway!
This is by far a kinder, gentler Cave than the one we saw in DDP: DOJ. Took me maybe ten runs to reach the final boss' second-final form and a score of 23 million; I don't think many players will struggle with a 1CC.
So, yeah -- immediately accessible, but clearly a lot of depth to be found. I think Galuda will be well-received by both score fiends and the less... obsessive fans of the genre. Something that DOJ, for all its charms, couldn't quite manage.
Not yet for me either...Quote:

I too arred a copy while waiting for mine to come
I like it, personally i still like ESP Ra De more but it's a good game, only given it about an hours worth of time so far so I'll have to put more time into it today.
How does one access stage 5.1 and 5.2(what kind of goals are we talking about or do you have to beat 5.1 to get to 5.2)?
Got to listen to the siesta AST yesterday thanks to Virael, pretty nice while it doesn't best the real one it sure has grown on me after a few runs.
It's just sequential. The division is much like ESPra.de's stage 5, really.Quote:

I have a shiny ingot for anyone that can tell me the criteria for triggering the stage 3 extend!
It's not blow everything up without using a bomb like every other cave game?
Doesn't seem to be. I could be missing a sneaky turret somewhere, though.
Woo. Sent them an email and they replied with a tracking number. It's nearby - should be delivered sometime today. Hooked up my jps2 and dusted off my joystick. Perhaps the pain that DOJ inflicted on me will be mitigated by the soothing transexual transformations of Galuda
I thought it was easier too, but I didn't know if it was the game or just my lucky day.Quote:

Maybe it's just slower, maybe the bullets line up in some fashion that appeals to me more, maybe it's just easier in some patterned way, but I always liked ESP RaDe more then the DDP series. In DOJ I had to rely more on timing to make it through spreads whereas I can weave my way through ESPs'. From the minute I started playing ESP Galuda it immediately felt like ESP RaDe's bullet mechanics and I was in love.
The game is definately easier then ESP RaDe, considering how long it took me to one credit a path to stage 3 on RaDe compared to doing so my first time playing Galuda. I've noticed the bosses change difficulty depending on some factor that I'm currently unaware of, and the harder level is definately more like the prequel. I'm also a huge fan of this continuing trend of allowing specific level runs in home ports of shooters, and now we even get it divided with bosses?! Hell yeah!
The game probably uses rank if the bosses differ, and I wasn't aware that black label was included in DOJ ;)
