Looks like Eidos had enough of Core with the Tomb Raider franchise and despite Angel of Darkness selling well they are giving the franchise over to Crystal Dynamics. This could be a great move as I love the Blood Omen/Soul Reaver titles. Maybe CD can fix this franchise up with some great new gameplay, acting, story..etc..all the stuff I love about the Blood Omen franchise.

I still can't figure out what happened to the Core that supported the Sega CD with gems like Soul Star. How did they fall so far?
I thought the first TR was great.
I haven't played it in years though...nostalgia could very well be clouding the ole memory.
Great News indeed. New developer needs to try its hands on the TR franchise, and I think that the series will benefit from this move.
TR:AD could have been a good game(graphics, story and action is there), if not for bad controls and bugs

Honestly the merger isn't going to do a damn bit of good because both of the companies suck ass.
I would complain about the series being taken away from its creators but since Jeremy Smith and probably the rest of the TR1 people are long gone from Core, then that's not really the case.
Regardless of the developer, this series really needs a rest. I hate to see any series killed by too much sequel milking.

I hope Core revisits some of its long untouched franchises like Soul Star, Wonder Dog, and Wolfchild. A new Jaguar XJR licensed racing game wouldn't be too bad either. XJ220 on Sega CD was pretty good.
One Core-published franchise I would love to see a sequel to is Corporation.

So, I agree with Nigel, I think Crystal Dynamics is a good choice (of the few that Eidos had) to give the Tomb Raider series some fresh blood. Shit, they can even get that Kurtis guy to be voice by Dana Gould now! Think of the possibilities.
I love Crystal Dynamics just for the Gex games, the first two were fantastic, the third was just... there.
They weren't bad games I'd say. The 2D one was semi-novel sticking to walls and what not, and for the time the first 3D one was fun too. And Crystal Dynamics did excellent work with disc streaming technology, now that I think of it. I think Gex had that going for it, just like Soul Reaver 1 (no load times once you were in-game was might nice).
But yea, as for the Gex games, I know I couldn't play the 3D ones today... the original might still be fun for a while.
And Soul Reaver is one of the greatest games ever made, so it all evens out.Quote:

That's truly smart? How many big properties do you think Eidos has exactly? While the thought of more Tomb Raider might give some hardcore gamers chills, Eidos would be foolish from a monetary standpoint to ditch that franchise, no matter how screwed up it is at the moment.
Crystal Dynamics is a notch above Core, but not a great developer. Soul Reaver was nice if you could get over the monotonous puzzles; SR2 was more of the same; I didn't even bother with Blood Omen 2 and mags pretty much panned it. I don't see what they could do with TR other than make it more tolerable than Core had. But totally revitalize the series?
