what do you guys prefer. do you guys always prefer to buy original games or does it matter if it is copied. and how many copied games do you guys own.
my whole collection used to be all copied then i slowly turned my collection into all originals. So how bout you guys?
Personally, I prefer originals. But, I also hate scratching my originals, so I do make copies of the stuff that I can (or else I be extremely careful with the stuff that I can't copy). I do have copies only of games, but I'm really trying to get away from that.

Back in the days of the C-64 and Amiga, I had a ton of copied games, but still bought the best games to have for collectable value.
Nowadays:
I play emulated games on my PC, but for my consoles, it all has to be in prime condition. I am thinking about burning CD's of my rarer games like Panzer Dragoon Saga, Shining Force III and Dragon Force, as I don't want to risk damaging the originals. If ever there was a game I'd take a burned copy of, it's Radiant Silvergun. The game is just too damn expensive to purchase.
I generally buy what I want. Nothing beats owning an original.
But I'd be one hell of a liar if I said that I don't pirate/emulate the occasional game. Yarrr. Excuse me while I go back to EspRaDe.

i only have boots of imports. stuff like ddr, beatmania, rakugaki showtime, and fire pro d (actually, i think those are the only games i have bootlegs of). everything else in my collection is original.
Not only do I need originals, but once I open them I put them back in protective seal king baggies to prevent the orriginal casing from getting scratched. :) A copy simply would not do...
no copies...it just doesn't feel like you truly 'own' the game. How would your game collection look with a bunch of CDRs in place of game cases? I don't even buy greatest hits, I always get original issued versions!

I have never "owned" a burn.
The only way I would even consider it was if a game was simply impossible to buy, but for now I have too many brand new unplayed legit games to worry about those lost gems.
all copies myself (except for all my old stuff "saturn, sega cd" et cet). i even got blockbuster cases and a laser printer to make the slip inserts. look legit to me.
I've replaced all of my console backups with originals. Except for the Japanese Giga Wing 2. Haven't gotten around to getting that one yet.
However... I have close to 8,000 emulated games on my PC. That number is only increasing.
Oh yeah, and I'm going to convert one of my cabs into a MAME cabinet.
Fuck the haters.

I much prefer an original over a copy.
I have been known to have a CDR here and there, but the two instances were the import CvS2 on the DC and the Jet Set Radio Future Soundtrack. I've since replaced both with the originals.

I'm not that big onto copying games, but I did have this program call PSXplayer which was supposed to rip movie or sound files on any PS game and I was more then happy when I made my custom SOTN soundtrack.
Too bad it's not working now that I switched to XP, missing .dll or something and I was just about to scan chrono cross with it. :(

Original. I'd be a lier if I said I didn't still ahve a few copied games lying around though. I'm not a collector or anything, I just prefer owning an original game, full box and instructions or not.

I own ZERO copied games. Never had any.
Well I guess I do have one disc with a few hundred NES games that I use on the Dreamcast. Thats it.
And a few roms for the PC of old arcade games.
Oh yeah, all the Metal Slugs too. Fuck paying $200 for that. Thats it though.

It also depends on the money situation as well. I just got a boot of Rez for PS2 a few nights ago. I wanted to pick up the greatest hits JP version of the game but currently all available gaming resources are going to building my Half-life 2 rig (All thats left is the Radeon 9800Pro) since it's the most important game so far....by so far I mean ever =D
I've never copied a game. Figure if games are 'expensive' then I can buy used. If I'm hurting for money THAT bad, then I obviously don't need the game.
And like sggg said, I have too many unfinished games to bother with copying.
If you're buying used, you might as well bootleg the game.
The developer/publisher gets no money either way.
Buying used still helps put money into the gaming industry, as it helps the retail side of thing.

P.S. I disagree.
If the games industry didn't want used games sold, they would tell EB and Gamestop to stop and they would have to. Remember, game companies can get retail corps to do things with even the hint of not letting them sell their merchandise.
With such high game prices and such low margins for the retailer, game makers have to let retailers resell or there would be not enough profit to stay in business, and that would lead to less places to buy the game maker's games.
60% of all videogames FAIL. Maybe it wouldnt be as high if more people actually bought their games instead of copying them. All copying does is leave the game industry even more in the hands of the mainstream markets. I think if you want to see more of the niche titles it would be wise to not cheat the industry.

I've never had a beef with the emulation of older games. Though a few years ago I was more rabidly against the piracy of current or recent games. Particularly during the Dreamcast era. Lately, though, I've softened my opposition to it quite a bit. I'm still not a big supporter of current game piracy, but I don't really care much about the issue anymore. When other people do it, it doesn't bother me like it used to. I've also taken up the practice of giving certain GBA games "trials", and "filling in a few gaps" of my Dreamcast library, if I may use a few euphemisms.
