Flashback Legends

A freind of mine brought to my attention a newly leaked beta for GBA... An appearent 2D sequel to Flashback! And to make it even better it's made by one of my favorite devs, Adeline Software. But I've never heard of this before. Does anyone know if it's still in development, or if this is from a cancelled project. Adeline's site disappeared months ago, and I was 2 wondering if they still even existed. Anyone know anything about it? I'd love to pick this up if it gets finished.

That would be amazing! I love Flashback. Still have the Genesis version near mint. I wish i could offer info on itm but for now I will just pledge my love for the game, and hope that this is true.

It looks a bit stupid to me (the guy looks out of place with the rest of the graphics).

BTW, did anyone else thought that the ending of Heart of the Alien (Out of this World 2 for the Sega CD) was crap?

I am so hoping that this comes out (or that it at least leaks out in alpha or beta form). Flashback is one of my top 5 Genesis games.

I love Flashback but that just looks...odd.

I was thinking a sequel, but the forest looks like the original in terms of layout.

They're very real. When I saw the screen I thought it might be a homebrew, but it is definately not. And the fact that it has the Adeline logo seems to jive with that too since they were recently merged into Delphine and since they now focus on handhelds. Oh yeah, and it's in french. It's not a fake.

Holy crap, that looks awesome. The color in it is astounding, moreso than in any version of the orginal Flashback. Thanks for the screens, Frogacuda.

I'm sad that it might never be finished... I can't find anything about what happened to Delphine but appearently they've been gone for months.

It looks like the guy got dropped off in Pinobee's world. Seriously though, I hope this get's an official release as I am a fan of that style of gameplay. As we all know, these types of games aren't all too common.

I just attribuited the bright colors and strong outlines to developers trying to cope with visibility issues. I think it looks good. Plays solid too... maybe slightly slower than the original, but it scrolls now.

The contrast of the character and the world around him is rather weird, but I dont care. I still love Flashback, and this still looks great.

The main character is a rip from the original... I assumed it was just a placeholder. But hell it plays and controls right, so whatever.

It's MS MPEG4 Codec. Should play on any version of Media Player. All I can do is AVI, sorry.

Mine ended up coming out as quicktime, so it showed me a static screen. I got to hear the music at least! :lol:

I was able to switch playing format on desktop, so the video came out alright.

The whole thing looks pretty cartoony, I kinda wish they stuck with the looks from the original. I did notice 2 problems, the sounds from the gun they're using suck, so I'm hoping it's just a different weapon and with the scrolling, I'm wondering how they're gonna work out the differences where you look around the area you're trying to figure out. The original had static screens for a reason, so I'm in deep hope this doesn't complicate things.

I love the vid, thanks for posting it. If anyone would like it, I've re-encoded the vid as an MPEG, and I am now hoping to upload it to a Yahoo Group I made so the vid can be made available for download.

I'm kinda wondering what the developers of fade to black would think of this?

The story and cutscenes are in place, but the language selection doesn't work so it's french only.

So I don't really know what's going on.

I agree! The GBA doesn't have very many really good, cerebral action-adventure platformers.

I do think the landscapes seem a little too bright and cheery for Flashback. Someone compared the new art style to Rayman, which is also what it reminded me of at first glance. I'm not particularly fond of the perfectly-symmetrical flowers with the cartoon-like outlines. The distant background looks gorgeous just as it is.

The old-style Conrad character looks just like he did in the original Flashback, but somehow seems out of place with the more cartoonish artwork. Whoever finishes development on this game should try to maintain a consistent art style. They should either adjust the foreground colors and artwork a bit, or update Conrad's appearance so he fits in better.

I just played the beta briefly. The intro is cool but the game is far more cartoon-ish and far less serious looking than its predecessors. I'm not big on the new look but the gameplay seems to be there.

Oh, man, the original Flashback was one of my all-time favorite Genny games, I had been waiting on the thing for almost a year before it's release, gobbling up every bit of info about it whenever I could.

I have to say, though, from the look of the forests and enemies in this one it looks more like a remake than a sequel, along the lines of last year's Lunar Legend.

It's not. It's a sequel.

I would imagine that the stage shown in the pics and vids was the first stage, since it does bear a bit of a resemblance to the first stage in the original game, which was, if memory serves, a jungle-ish stage.

But I agree about the colorful nature of the background, too flowery and stuff, but whatever.

I bet this game takes place in Conrad's head during his cryo sleep.

Remember that last level of Flashback, with all those weird brain things, and those monkeys whose heads you blow away to high hell? Yeah, that was great.

I didn't like that part where you fall like 2 screens and catch yourself on a ledge... should've ripped his arms clean off.

It took me 2 tries to beat the game, I got to the ship but didn't figure out to press up. I'm an idiot.

The graphics don't quite mesh with the Conrad sprite, but the new scrolling screen is a major plus. Shame there isn't a definite release date on this. Thanks for the scoop Frogacuda.
