cell phones
I may have to get a cell phone now. =/ Only because it's going to make life easier when I go to Los Angeles.
I've been avoiding having to buy a cell phone only because the outcast within me said I didn't want to be like everyone else and own a brain-tumor inducing device.
I'm going to assume that 7/10 people on the board has a cell phone?

I have a Nokia 8290. I don't like to use it much tho cuz it gives me headaches.
Perhapes....say 10 years down the line, we may start seeing the first cell phone cancer cases. So if you do get one, use it in moderation....

heh, I hardly use mine. More of a way for my mom to get ahold of me and ask tons of PC-related questions...even when I'm away from home!
^_^U
Maybe if I had those things...you know...what are they called...friends...I'd be more jazzed about this lightweight burden :P

Don't have one...haven't had the need to get one so I never bothered. The last thing I need is another monthly bill :)

Cell phone etiquette
Well, if/when you get one, please, for the sake of all that is good in humanity, follow some basic courtesies:
- Turn off the phone when you walk into a movie theater. You are not more important than the movie I am about to watch.
- Turn off the phone when you walk into the classroom. You are not more important than the instructor who is about to lecture.
- Turn off the phone when you go into a meeting at work. You are not more important than the presentation I am about to make.
- Turn off the phone when at a meal with friends, loved ones, family, business associates, etc. No one likes having their conversation interrupted because Jones down in Accounting thinks you're over-budget. He can leave a message.
- If you MUST take a call during class, a movie, a meeting, etc., take it outside, then come back when you are finished.
- Turn off the phone while driving. You are not more important than my safety.
- If you MUST talk while in the car, pull to the side of the road so I can pass you without you not paying attention and swerving into my side.
- No fecking musical rings, unless it's videogame-related. Those I can tolerate -- in other words, no pico-speaker versions of "Who Let The Dogs Out" or anything by classical composers, but the MGS theme is ok.
- Better yet, no ringing at all. Set your phone to vibrate or just let them leave a message.
- DON'T YELL INTO YOUR PHONE. PHONE MICROPHONES ARE VERY SENSITIVE, IT CAN PICK YOU UP JUST FINE. IT'S VERY ANNOYING TO PEOPLE AROUND YOU WHEN YOU YELL INTO YOUR PHONE, NOT TO MENTION IF IT'S DURING CLASS, A MOVIE, A MEETING OR A MEAL.
I think I covered all the basics. Feel free to add to this. ^_^

Three and a half years ago I couldn't picture myself with a cellphone. Then I got one for Christmas that year. Now three and a half years later I rarely even use our landline. My phone's just there, and I don't have to worry about family interrupting me or picking up my calls.
Of course, it's the plan that makes all the difference. I hooked up with a $20/200min monthly plan through Fido. (with 15¢/min after that, and 10¢/min Canada/US long distance)
($20 CDN = $12.80 US, 10¢ = 6.4¢)

Just please please please do not put a custom ring tone on it. I told my dad if he ever does with his business one I'm destroying it.
-
I've got a Pac Man "service icon" on the screen, a funky lime-green shell, and an ordinary generic ring tone. Of course, when I'm in public, I put it in vibrate mode.
(I have a few custom "modes" programmed into it for various situations.)
Now, my boss on the other hand... he has "Axel-F" from Beverly Hills Cop as his ringtone, and he'd keep it on max volume whether he was in public or not. It was SO embarrassing when we were at Kinko's last week...

I have a Mitsubishi; don't remember what model. It's a decent phone. I use prepaid, so there are no plans to worry about, but you must get phone cards if you want to use it. It was originally my dad's, so it's about 2 or 3 years old.
Ah well, atleast it isn't a Nokia (which I'm not too fond of).
