Gun Games of the 8-bit Era
I did make a thread on the history of home gun games a while ago but since I tried to squeeze everything from the '70s to the 32-bit era in one post, I didn't focus much on the games themselves. So I feel like making a more focused thread. I love gun games and the 8-bit era was one of the healthiest ones for the genre. Here are the gun games of the NES, 7800, and SMS.
Wild Gunman(Nintendo, NES, 1984)
Despite what kids in the year 2015 may tell you this is not a baby's toy.

Duck Hunt(Nintendo, NES, 1984)
Due to being packed in with many NES systems, this is the most common gun game around. It's one of my favorites. I hope someone makes a hacked rom where you can shoot the dog.

Hogan's Alley(Nintendo, NES, 1984)
Shoot the bad guys and avoid shooting the good guys.

*Note - The 1984 in these releases is referring to the Famicom/VS Arcade release date. The domestic NES versions didn't come out nation-wide until 1986.
Gumshoe(Nintendo, NES, 1986)
Most people who haved played this game seem to hate it but I thought it was pretty cool and very original. It was actually a platform game of sorts where you shot the character to make him jump.

Safari Hunt(Sega, SMS, 1986)
This was a great pack-in with the system, improving upon the type of gameplay in Duck Hunt. It still looks and plays awesome.

Gangster Town(Sega, SMS, 1987)
This was loosely based on an arcade game I forget the name of. It had nice level variety.

Shooting Gallery(Sega, SMS, 1987)
I loved how when you missed it left holes in the background.

Marksman/Trap Shooting(Sega, SMS, 1987)
Two games in one: shooting targets police style and clay disc shooting. I liked it but it wasn't great.

Rescue Mission(Sega, SMS, 1987)
Back then I thought the game was decent. After reading all the praise from TNL'ers, I played the game again and I agree that it has aged exceptionally well. It's definitely a classic.

Gotcha!(LJN/Beam, NES, 1987)
In this game you used the controller and the gun.

Missile Defense 3D(Sega, SMS, 1987)
This game also used the Segascope 3d glasses. Unfortunately I bought it after my 3d glasses broke.

Sentinel(Atari, 7800, 1988)
This was only released in Europe as far as I know. You have to protect the planet(?) on the left side of the screen by shooting anything that might hit it.

Crossbow(Atari, 7800, 1988)
This was a impressive port of Exidy's arcade game.

Barnyard Blaster(Atari, 7800, 1988)

Freedom Force(Sunsoft, NES, 1988)
You shoot terrorists and avoiding shooting hostages. It was pretty good although with similar stuff like Virtua Cop today, it has aged a bit.
Rambo III(Sega, SMS, 1988)
A good Operation Wolf-ish game.

Track & Field II(Konami, NES, 1988)
It had gun support for the clay shooting event.
To The Earth(Nintendo, NES, 1989)
I haven't played this spaceship shooting game in years so I don't remember it well but everyone tells me to avoid it.

The Adventures of Bayou Billy(Konami, NES, 1989)
Part beat 'em up, part gun shooting game, big disappointment by Konami standards. http://www.vgmuseum.com/pics/bayou.html
Wanted(Sega, SMS, 1989)
In Wild West fashion, you can't shoot until the enemy draws his gun.

Operation Wolf(Taito, NES, 1989)
For some reason this game is damn near impossible to beat with the gun and is better played with the controller.

Shooting Range(Bandai, NES, 1989)
http://www.vgmuseum.com/pics/shootingrange.html
Baby Boomer(Color Dreams, 1989, NES)
An unlicensed NES game. Help baby find his mom by shooting any threats. Think about the theme of this game for a second. Why would you(the player) be in the background with a gun shooting things to help a crawling baby?

Alien Brigade(Atari, 7800, 1989)

Barker Bill's Trick Shooting(Nintendo, NES, 1990)
This is obscure for a Nintendo game and it's worth checking out. The animation was nice and they let you shoot the mutt this time.

Mechanized Attack(SNK, NES, 1990)
I still haven't played the arcade original but this was a very good NES gun game. http://www.vgmuseum.com/images/nes/01/mechanized.html
Laser Invasion(Konami, NES, 1990)
This used Konami's voice activated headset gun the Laserscope.
http://nesworld.parodius.com/com/laserinv.jpg
Meltdown(Atari, 7800, 1990)
Shoot sparks to prevent a nuclear meltdown at a power plant.
http://www.digitpress.com/dpsightz/a...0/meltdown.gif
Assault City(Sega, SMS, 1990)
For some stupid reason Sega made two versions of this game: one for controllers and one for guns. It was an okay sci-fi themed gun game.
http://www.smspower.org/db/asscityl-11.gif
Operation Wolf(Taito, SMS, 1990)
Like most of Taito's SMS games, this was a European release.
http://www.vgmuseum.com/images/sms/opera.html
Chiller(AGCI, NES, 1990)
A port of Exidy's gory arcade game. This game wasn't licensed by Nintendo and is quite rare. It wasn't very good.
http://www.nesfiles.com/NES/Chiller/Chiller_boxback.jpg
Laser Ghost(Sega, SMS, 1991)
A port of the obscure arcade game that can be used with a gun/controller combo. This was a European release.
http://www.smspower.org/db/lasergst-3.gif
The Lone Ranger(Konami, NES, 1991)
This was a multi-genre game. It was an action/adventure with some gun shooting parts mixed in.
Space Gun(Taito, SMS, 1992)
This was very downgraded from the arcade game but still quite playable.
