Mzo and Chux are shown to be playing "tnl." Regardless, I can't join the game, although it could have been a two-player game I suppose.
Anyway, my first attempts at EA's hijacked Live experience have not gone well.
Also, the game doesn't seem to be Live aware -- a huge oversight. Oh yeah, and what's with the lame text messages for friends? Did they forget that everyone with Xbox live has voice? No big deal, but these are all backward steps from Live games we've been playing for months now.
The game itself kicks ass. I'm just craving some Live play.
K, Prince... Mech and Korly are showing up as ALWAYS online... no clue why. They just are. So don't trust that.
Me, Chux, and Opaque were playing in a room called tnl in East 2. You have to be in the right server to connect to a friend's game, but there no way to really tell what server they're on once they're playing.
Just hit me up on AIM or MSN when you want to play, my PC is right next to my TV so I can coordinate a time and place or whatever.
Let's pretend I don't use a computer for anything other than writing legal briefs, surfing TNL, and downloading porn.Quote:

So very, very wierd. I guess whenever I'm on and see someone else I'll just mail you guys since EA thinks I'm some ghost in the machine.

I really don't want to do that F1 GP race, each one is so goddamn long. I went through the first and when I started sucking on the second race I just quit, I'll try again some other day. Other then that and whatever race or two comes after, I just need to finish up Crash Mode for all the medals.
In bad news, EA's server crap has started freezing my Xbox as well. Twice so far tonight, that's quite a feat they're pulling off.
I'll be on in 30 mins, soon as I stop giving Mr 30 Bronze Max some shit.
I got one BSOD and a hangup where the music was stuck on one note while trying to connect today.
I'm at about 142 of 173. I don't move on until I get a gold.
Should be able to finish tonight.
I'll be back on in a little bit too.
I was gonna try out the new pokemans, but MVS is calling me names.
I guess I have to get on.

My Xbox has never crashed/dropped this much ever with any game but when the games are solid it's all worth it.
Yeah, I think we've all learned that invites are there solely to tell you the name of the game because accepting them crashes the Xbox. EA is a huge group of retards, the DC and its mighty 56k never dropped me half this much.
Aside from that: Good times, all, good times.
It may be difficult to deal with the server sometimes, but ultimately it is rewarding on a very high level.
How the fuck did this game get through QC? The online component has so many random glitches it is infuriating. The funny thing is, it is all on the lobby/matchmaking side -- once you get going, the game works fine.
Half of my brain is saying this was allowed just so that Microsoft could use this as an example of what happens when companies do not use MS' Live services. ("You want to use your own services? And end up like Burnout 3?")
(Note: I know NCAA Football and Madden 2005 are also on EA's services, so this is not a first. I know that NCAA Football had some networking problems, but have not heard anything concerning Madden...)

-If you crash while the DJ is talking, you get another stupid line from him instead of music. This bug can result in a loop where you keep crashing and the DJ keeps talking. Really annoying; just another reason to turn his ass off I guess.
-If you crash right when the game is changing from the DJ talking to music (or from track to track), the game either hangs or gives you a dirty disc error message. This has happened to me twice so far... both times on the final race of the final GP. :curse: :curse: :curse:
-Dippy
I don't think anyone else has had those because everyone turns off the DJ.
At least, everyone should.
It's bad enough that the soundtrack defaults online. Thank goodness the dj doesn't.
I gotta practice up to keep up with you guys. I can hold my own when playing red, but I am pretty bad playing blue. I'll talk more next time too. H's Arnold voice is just too much.

Anyone have tips for doing the Circuit Racer GP? About the only thing between me and 100% Gold are those rubbish races with that POS car.
Almost done, and I must say this game has grown on me. I still can't get used to the constant pop-up messages, Crash Mode, the inability to tell where your opponents are, the motion blur, the narrow tracks, and so on, but the gameplay is certainly visceral.
It's also really really easy to get golds, except for the odd Burning Lap and a couple of the trophy requirements, which are more frustrating than challenging.
This is also only the third Xbox game that has frozen on me, the others being Ion Storm's two buggy efforts.
Closest I've gotten is 36 so far, and 5-6 of those were pure luck. Road Rage is one situation where the narrower tracks help quite a bit.Quote:

This is the truth.
100% gold medals and 99% complete, all I'm missing now are eight signature Takedowns (and I can't find a way to tell on the maps which ones I'm missing) and three trophies. Gonna be a pain in the ass to get those, too.I know, that one scares me. I'm not even sure what Takedown track I'll be able to do that one, I can usually only get about twenty on any of them.Quote:

It really doesn't. I actually didn't want to do that F1 GP but I figured the quicker I get done with single-player the quicker I've got all the cars for online. Hardest course was the 1:30:00 with the Hot Rod, probably because it was one of only two times in the game you needed to learn the course to win (the other being one of the F1 timed races).Quote:

Protip on the 40 takedowns in a road rage event: Do it from the main menu. (Single Event->Road Rage). There is no timer in those events, getting 40+ there is just a matter of survival.
I think it would take a hell of an effort to get 40 takedowns in three minutes; my best was 31 in 3 minutes on Dockside CW (the one where you have to get 24 for gold).
Some of the signature takedowns are not location specific but rather vehicle specific. You need to put someone into the following:
* A RV motor home on Silver Lake
* A tram on Waterfront
* A trailer carrying speedboats in Waterfront
* A tram on Winter City
* A wine delevery truck on Vineyard
* A tuk-tuk on Golden City
* A tour bus on Island Paradise
(The locations aren't specific, but that is where you will usually find the vehicle. Also, for the tour bus one it says the parked ones on Island Paradise but putting someone into any of the tour buses in the Far East area will work)
Trying to put someone into a tram twice in a race can blow me. :curse:
-Dippy
That's one hell of a Protip. Thanks!
I played this game for 45 minutes at EB today. This is one hell of a game. Everytime I crashed I fealt like shouting expletives out of joy for what I was seeing. The crash scenes are just so damn cool in this game. Then som kid started playing with me and the whole time we would just turbo right into eachother and cause some insane crashes. I definately plan on picking this game up, but not until the price drops or the network problems get fixed.

Scheduled Server Maintenance
On Tuesday, September 14, beginning at 1:00 AM PDT, the EA and Pogo.Com sites, PS2 and Xbox-Live games will experience a scheduled interruption of service for a software upgrade. Duration is expected to be 45 minutes for PS2 and Xbox games, and 50 minutes for Pogo.com.
Customers will be unable to login to the PS2 games, Xbox Live games, and EA websites or message boards during the full duration of this downtime.
Burnout (Xbox) will be down an additional 15 minutes while they undergo a lobbyserver deployment.
EA Games
This may be the best news ever.
Agreed, too bad I havn't had any time to play :( Bastard OpenGL!
I think they already tweaked some things a little since the last night. I played a bunch of games today and I only ever saw one person get bumped after the game twice.
Awesome, let's hope it fixes things.
Further updates for me: I've gotten everything except the 2 Bus/2 Tram/2 Big Rig awards (well, I've only got like 1450 Takedowns but getting to 2000 is just a matter of time), any help for easier ways to do this then randomly racing courses and hoping I get lucky? Races don't keep the people together so getting specific Takedowns is a huge pain in the ass, and two-player mode doesn't count (Yeah, I tried that. Racing both cars myself.).
A big Thank You to Dipstick, both for pointing out single event counting and listing vehicle locations. You made my life in BO3 very easy today, which is doubly appreciated after the nonsense of the F1 GP.
Wow, you're faaaaaaaar ahead of me! I have like 120 medals I think. I havn't even tried to get and awards yet, but I do have over $150 million in crash mode.
I have like no medals at all.
I've been playing almost exclusively online.
I bought this game today, but haven't had the time to open the game or to set up my xbox live. When I do... feel free to kick my ass left and right

Again, this is a giant step backward from Live games we've all been playing for months.

Just a real quick "fuck you" to Tropical Drive Preview Lap. Almost four minutes of absolutely perfect racing is required to gold. I completed the race a few times without crashing and was still a second or so off from gold. I finally get gold and...it unlocks nothing.

I really want to get back to playing this, but I can't get Fable out of my Xbox. :)
Done, 100% everything. I am of the opinion that the unlocking and rewards system really aren't worth the trouble, even for purposes of completion.
In fact, I finished Crash Mode only because I'm a damn completist. It got terribly boring halfway through.
Burning Laps are stupid.
The rubberbanding AI was worse than Burnout 2's. Many times I was cruising in first place with a nice lead, crashed once, and was instantly in sixth, by a lot. Sure, I still ended up in first, but what's the point of having a lead?
Why don't the AI cars go after each other? I rarely saw them try to take out each other. The grudge system only applies to the player.
That said, it's a very nice game, and a keeper, but it's going into the Bio Archives. Burnout 2 set the bar way too high. It's more carefully designed and has much more interesting replay value.
Wonder what Burnout 4 will be like....
so, it's going into the bio archives without ever having been played online? that's the whole point.) even EA's catastrophic server farm doesn't stop it from being the best thing ever. get on live, dammit.Quote:

The rubberband AI is especially annoying is the Eliminator races. Five laps, and the only one that actually matters is the last one because no matter how well you do for the first four, you screw up once the last and you're instantly passed.
Yeah, I stopped playing single player because of it.
Yeah, I agree, it makes it more frustrating and doesn't reward good driving at all.
I tend to stay with the pack in the elimination match, just taking them out as often as possible. No use in getting ahead. Same in Face-Off.
PS - No rubber-band AI online =D

i agree that they follow you too closely, but if there wasn't some semblance of rubberbanding, you wouldn't have much to crash into, which would be silly when the feature is so well-realized. play online. it's better.
The racing in Burnout 3 would be better Super GT style, where you have 30 or so opponents already ahead of you and the goal is to fight through the pack to first place before the race ends.
not a bad idea for single player.. road rage is awfully close to that, though.

It's fucking awesome like that.
But in other races it's terrible, way worse then it was in BO2. Face Offs are easier this time since you can use Takedowns against the other guy, I didn't lose a single one whereas one of the ones in BO2 actually made me exert effort.
Road Rage is a superb idea, and it's carried out very well (you're right, Mech, rubberbanding actually makes it work), but I think it should have been restricted to an unlockable mode totally separate from the main racing - like the original's Survival mode or B2's Pursuit mode.
Imagine Burnout 2's scoring system augmented by additional scoring bonuses for takedowns in Road Rage mode. That would have been a nice step forward instead of the step backward that is B3's world tour.
Criterion had to make the offline AI cheat in order to keep the focus on takedowns, which was, I think, a design flaw from the outset. It's obvious to me that the mechanics don't work very well for "normal" racing. Exciting, yes, but critically flawed.
I think it's increasingly evident that Criterion intended Burnout 3 to be played online from its inception, where none of these problems exist.
BioMech, you finished the game. Is the Lakeside Getaway Special Event GP race (with the circuit car) the last event? I want to be done with this game.
No, there's one more, with the Euro Racer (a GP of single lap races). Don't worry, it's way easier.Quote:
