I'm just grateful Criterion included such a great single player game, since this way it can be played for years on end after Xbox Live no longer supports it. (or exists in the future)
Picked it up this week and uh...here's what I think.
- Awesome graphics, really polished and fast. Love the reflective surfaces and lighting, especially the crashes.
- The first person mode definitely needs a mirror.
- The announcer guy is the same dude from SSX3, he's way more out of place here than in SSX3 where he's tolerable and sometimes funny. He's not a piece of shit here but it's a good thing he can be turned off.
- The music blows outside a very, very, versy small selection of songs. Intro music is fucking horrible too, custom soundtrack never looked more like a good idea than here.
- Catching up after crashing can get very annoying since they put you so far back. It's definitely less forgiving than the 2nd.
- Controls are just about the same as the second in accuracy. Not too complex and has a RR feel to it. Love the boost afterburners too.
I'm probably not going to take it into Live unless I'm at my cousin's house although I'd love to test it on there once it runs better.
Agreed. Between you and bio I don't need to add anything. Boosting for a full minute and then crashing once and winding up in sixth sucks the BIG one.Quote:

Edit: Someone lend me some money so I can afford my textbooks and a freaking Live subscription.
Oh god help! the wireless adapter is 100 dollars! I have a linksys (a.k.a. piece of shit) wireless network in my house, but the cable is near the xbox. Is there a way to link it up without fucking with the network/being on the network while keeping the network that won't cost me 100 freaking dollars?!?!? oh man I'm never going to get to play this game live. Shit.
I totally forgot the Xbox could do stuff like keep music and store games on the hard drive. Probably because I've waited so long to get it I forgot all I read about it upon release. Besides, in every other system, it's been a perfunctory feature. However in this game it's essential.
Ebay has a store selling the wireless adapters (unsold but in open boxes) for 44 dollars I believe.
Trouble is, I can't even afford that until my next paycheck. This is where a credit card would help.
Hey, if you score your 2,000th takedown while playing online does it count towards your regular game? Also, what if you scored 10 takedowns in a race while online, will it count towards your regular game?
Burnout 3 is a good game, but there were many things I didn't like about it. One thing was the horrible soundtrack. Bleh! Another thing I didn't like that they added was the 'extra score' pickups in Crash mode. There were a few other things, but I didn't play the game long enough to get enough of a feel for it.
It's called Custom Soundtrack, and it's an actual reason to own the game.
BebopLover: When ya loggin on this week? Red says that he had connection issues before, but I am hoping we can all play sometime tonight or Sat. Let me know.
As for your Takedown question...to my knowledge, it won't count as part of your single-player objectives (10 takedowns for instance), but they'll still be tallied as part of your overall number.
I'm talking about the PS2 version. I imagine making a custom soundtrack would be pretty sweet.Quote:

If someone did do it, what track did you clear it on? My 36 and 37 came on Alpine Northbound.
Bahn, I might be on late tomorrow night. Like 10 and after. I'll leave a message on the online board.
I used to have an Xbox, but I sold it to GameCrazy. Sounds stupid, I know, but I bought the thing for $15 and sold it for $80+. That's a $65 profit right there. I'm sure you'd do the same thing in my situation.Quote:

My problem was that I was trying to do it during a World Tour Road Rage and kept running out of time, then someone in this thread told me that it counted with the no time limit single-player selection and I had it done in a couple tries.Quote:

The course doesn't really matter, just remember to not go too fast, the best way to get a high number against the computer is to go near your regular top speed and try to line up your car behind your opponents. Since an activated boost is an instant Takedown, regulating your speed will allow you to take advantage of the rubberband AI (don't forget, they'll respawn behind you and catch up if they get too far ahead so don't worry about losing them). The course doesn't really matter too much, only a couple of tracks will present a problem.Nope, I'd make that my modded one so I could have one for Live and one for whatever else. There's always a use for another system, hell, I could use a second Xbox in my room for Live chat with WoW.Quote:

Yeah eventually they will be that cheap, but you could already have one.
Yeah, a used one with no box and weird stains all over it. Fuck that.
Goddamn, this game is so good. (Yes, Compass is on a racing game kick. Sorry for the bumps.)
I just had a blitzkrieg two hour session of high-octane thrills the likes of which I haven't experienced since PS1-era WipEout -- and I'm not even playing online! Muting Stryker and using a custom soundtrack (50% Mini Moni + 50% math metal = 100% goodness imo) is a must.
There's so much vicious satisfaction to be had with the Takedowns. And weaving in and out of oncoming traffic at ludicrous speeds with horns blaring... bliss! The Crash Mode is great too when you need a breather. I can see how GamesTM gave this one a '10'.
I haven't played any of the others in the series, but I'm very much looking forward to 4 and 5 now.
I can actually imagine how fruity j-pop would magnify the greatness of a game like this immensely.
I've never played a Burnout game.
3 and 4 are super-cheap nowadays. You should rectify that.
And Salsashark, you should already be aware that fruity j-pop magnifies the greatness of life.
Ha. Can't argue with that. Potent alchemy indeed.
