GBA Fighters

I traded in about 25 NES carts at my local Gamestop a few days ago and decided to pick up a GBA SP at long last. I used to own the ol' regular GBA back in 2001, but the dexterity and flexibility I needed to see the screen was simply beyond my reach, so I ditched it.

I went looking for some fighting games - specifically, I wanted SFA3, but could only find Guilty Gear Advance and King of Fighters: Neoblood. I picked up GG to tide me over until I could track down Street Fighter, but damn, the sprites are tiny. The game seems super easy as well, even on the harder settings. I've never played a Guilty Gear game before - is this par for the course?

Anyhow, any input on GBA fighters, as well as their availability, is appreciated. I went to about 6 stores Sunday looking for SFA3 or SSF2, to no avail. Are the 2 Street Fighters out of print already? I'd hate to have to resort to ebay already.

I think I'll go pick up the GBA Kirby as well. I loved Kirby's Adventure on the NES, can't pass this one up.

SSF2 Turbo revival is a suggestion. I found that one to be one of the better things to play fighting gamewise on the GBA.... I have the GGX game and the KOF GBA ones.....and well, i think fighters is one of those things GBA isn't exactly meant for. The Tekken and MK ones are just awful.

I think the quick-n-dirty nature of fighters make them ideal for a portable. I like being able to play a few rounds on a moment's notice.

That said, I don't neccesarily think the GBA is a poor system for fighters, but rather it needs an original fighting game that takes the control limitations of the system into account, instead of a string of ports where these games originally have a much more complex button layout.

For example, SNK vs. Capcom on the NGPC - great fun, and makes great use of the 2 action buttons.

Yeah GG is extremely easy against the computer, the console games aren't anything like that...

GG is fun when you link it up, then it's more challenging ;)

I think they're all terrible as they try too hard to imitate the original (which is just murder on the hands). KOF R2 and SVC on NGPC won't be bettered.

They need a new control scheme, like the NGPC fighters had.

That's all it would take, and all these games would become 100x more playable.

ssf2t is pretty good, cept some of the music i guess. it was a bitch to pull off any special moves on the original gba dpad when i first bought the game which basically made me use the cheapo easy controls, then i got the sp, and the dpad made all well in the world. except for the lack of 2 more buttons. but whatever.

playmore (or is it snk or something else now) announced a gba snk vs capcom a while back, but theres been no news on it that ive seen. if its just an arcade port, at least there wont be a button limitation, otherwise if its a gba specific game it should be interesting.

SFA3 is awesomeness itself.

Not only that, I doubt the game will take a graphical hit. It already looks like it's running on a GameBoy Player for gods sake ;)

The only portable fighter I've played (Outside of that awful GameBoy fighter which back then was the only one) was Street Fighter Alpha for GBC. I don't think I want anymore :(

GGX advance is a piece of trash because of its lack of difficulty alone. I bought that game, cleared it on hard without losing a round, switched it to very hard, and did the same thing. The only thing more impossible than losing a round in that game is finding me giving a shit if i do or not.
