Gaining website traffic...

So, I know you've all heard about the new web comic that me and my brother started a couple weeks ago and so far it's been pretty good. I enjoy doing it and so does he.

The problem I've come to now is that it seems traffic just doesnt want to go up. I've started an affiliates program but hardly any sites respond to my email requests and I submitted to several search engines.

What do you guys find is the best way to gain traffic? We used to run wrestlinggames.com and that site just gained traffic by itself somehow. We didn't have to submit it to anything. I guess the domain name was just that good for that genre.

What do you suggest? I remember there were programs were it would submit your site to like hundreds of search engines. Do those still exist for free?

PA, what was your name on WrestlingGames.com? Anyways, one simply thing you can do to increase traffic is to put a link to the site in various sigs. Also, name dropping can be quite useful. Getting the comic hosted on a site, or affiliated with a site, that gets high traffic could also help.

I was Mr.Wrestle I believe during my first opening of the site. I can't really remember.

I have been submitting emails left and right for affiliations and we have a good host (ourselves, ha).

I guess a mention on Penny Arcade or something big could help us, but I don't see how that would happen.

All my traffic from my various websites just randomly happened. At first I just get my friends to spread the word, link in my sigs and off I go.

Although Im sort of in the same position right now since I just switched domains. We can leech off each other! :p

make a forum and make it a subpart of the main site.

What do you mean we used to run WrestlingGames.com. I don't recall you updating 3 times a day with the latest and greatest news (as good as it can be, c'mon, it's just wrestling) and getting the site so popular it blew a servers bandwidth for a month in two days!

But you know, whatever.

I don't care about traffic that much. I like doing it and that's good enough for me right now. Plus too many people means we'll have to pay more for hosting.

Get on lots of search engines, and set up a lot of ad affiliations with sites that have the same general content that yours do. That'll boost traffic.

It's funny, Rachel recently started a Harry Potter fan art page and went from one gig of bandwidth traffic to double her bandwidth allowance (10GB is what she's allowed) in less than a month. Just ask visitors to whore you arround, it worked for her.

That's a lot. When I ran my popular website I got like 120 GB a month. That's a whole lot of bandwidth. Luckily I found a host who could handle the load, and that's rare.
