i guess he made the official announcement today, and i honestly could care less for republicans, but it's arnold, and that's all that needs to be said.
so anyways, if you live in California, vote for Arnold, simple as that. oh, he's running for governer by the way.

Arnold was just on the Tonight Show about 5 minutes ago, and he officially announced his running for Governor of California. In doing so, he pointed out, he is "ending my movie career." That...that sucks. :mad: I hope he loses. :) And I hope he goes broke losing so that he has to sign on to do a whole series of Terminiator and Commando movies. I just want to see him in movies kicking ass. His films were a big part of my growing up and I hate to think that he's not making any more. :( :(
Still, he's getting up there in years...who know how much longer he could keep doing movies...but he was great in Terminiator 3...I bet he had a few more flicks in him. ;)
Already, he's talking like a politician- saying that he's going to "pump Sacramento up" and "hasta la vista baby" to the departing Governor. :rolleyes:
Still, you have to admire the guy- he comes to this country, conquers bodybuilding (winning 7 Mr. Olympia titles), then makes a killing in real estate, then becomes one of the biggest movie stars ever (currently, with the 30 million he got for T3, he's the highest paid actor ever), and now he's set to make a huge mark in politics. That's a lot to have accomplished! If it wasn't against the law for someone not born in this country to run for President, I'm sure he'd wind up in that office eventually. The man is driven, and one hell of a role model to the little kiddies. Arnold fucking owns. :)
Anyway, my Uncle lives in California, and I'm going to have him mail me all the Arnold campaign stuff he can get his hands on. I'd love to have a "Vote for Arnold" poster in my room... :D
yeah, for his campaign, i really thinkt he guy should just show off 30 second commercials that just considst of nothing but footage of Commando and have "Vote For Arnold" at the bottom.
and have another one that shows footage of him and Allysa Milano feeding that deer, and well, having a good time with her, oh, and some footage from Kindergarden Cop and have it say "Arnold cares about the Children" at the bottom.
Actually, Arnold is an ideal candidate in many ways. While Republican, he's quite moderate (and socially, he's admittedly progressive) -- enough so that many, many Democrats will not be put off in the least.
He's a celebrity. This works well for Californians, for better or worse.
He has a strong record (for TV appearances and speeches, anyway) on education. People love that for some reason.
He's committed (or so he says) to slashing a ton of bullshit programs which, frankly, is the one thing this state needs to do ASAP.
I suspect he will prove to be a very difficult opponent for Dems and Repos alike.

My dad loves this guy, and I totally agree with most most of the stuff he says. Now I'm not sure about other non-joke competetion, but I'd say Arnold is a definate good choice, lets just hope he knows wtf hes doing....
I think he's a great candidate. I don't like his acting, but like others have said, you have to admit the man has made something of himself. Maybe he will put Wolfgang Puck in the position as the official chef of CA or something.

I think I'd vote for Arnie, though. I mean, I agree more with other candidates running, but he's the only decent guy with a real chance at winning who I even remotely agree with. And, remotely agreeing with the politician is much better than being at constant odds with a politician.
I voted for former MN Gov. Jesse Ventura in '98, and a year hadn't even passed before I regretted my decision. His promotion of 3rd party politics was great, but the public school system began to suffer during the budget surplus--long before the current recession.
The problem with Jesse is that he didn't do anything. He let the systems just run amuck. Politics, much like a garden, can be both destroyed by horrible actions, or destroyed by unwatched growth. He did the later. The budget blossomed without any checks.
If he gets elected, that means no more T4. :(

I'd vote for him, partially because he ISN'T a politician. Anyone who has made their life being in politics, their number one priority is to keep their job - just like anybody in any other job. The problem with that is that doing what is right and doing what will keep your job safe is so often at totally opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to politics.
Arnold certainly doesn't need to do this for popularity. He certainly isn't hurting financially. So, in his case, I would be far more inclined to believe that he is doing it out of an honest desire to see things get better over in California. I can't say the same about most of the politicians that I know.

Anywhere else they would have been laughed off the ballot...especially in Connecticut. Ha! And if one of these celeb gov.s do get elected, I hope it's not all a popularity race, and do a better job than Davis. It's been nothing but craziness since I moved out here. The sales tax here is incredible (CT-6%, CA-8.25%), not to mention the property taxes and tight acreage.
It seems that anyone with $3500 and 65 supporting signatures can run in this election.

The thing with Arnold is that it's blatantly obvious that he knows what he's doing. He's manipulated circumstances to his favor so that people are forced to pay attention to him -- he has money, he bankrolls lots of stuff, he can even afford to "lose" money on T3 (even though everyone knows it will make 20x its theatrical take on home video -- just try to show me a movie that has never broken even). Look at Planet Hollywood -- he's one of major investors on that and it's paid off pretty well, as have alot of his other business ventures.
The guy's been very successful here, yet he made it while not even being from America. It's not like being govenor will get him anything he doesn't already have (even with all the connections and "consulting" positions the office delivers), so why is he doing it? I think he's just repaying a favor to CA -- he sees a problem, seems to know what to do to fix it and is in a perfect position to do so.

Where to start...shidoshi makes good points. Sl1p's right...anyone could do a better job than Davis could. Isa is out (the man who spearheaded the recall) because he knows Arnold has instant appeal and will clean up. If you're wondering about viable alternatives (and not all these smartasses who think it's funny to run for governor just so they can be attention whores - Coleman and Gallahgar included), John McClintock (sp) is running. Bill Simon is too...or so I've heard. I know McClintock has previous political experience, and Bill Simon was the governor candidate who lost to Davis last election. But, he's a businessman, so that kind of mindset may be what we need; someone who can look at the financial problems and run the state efficiently.
Although I'm sure Arnold will just go to town with this. I may not be totally eye-to-eye with the guy (he's already talking about spending money on after school programs to keep kids off the street - um...we're not supposed to be spending more money...and what makes anyone think kids would volunteer to go to these), but he seems to really want to help turn the state around. Like 'doshi said, you know he isn't in this for the money...or the publicity...he already has enough of that which is what makes him such a strong candidate.
Oh, and I've heard east-coasters call the whole recall a joke...scratch that; liberal east-coasters. What I don't understand is; doesn't a recall initiative as part of a state constitution just give more power to the people? Heck, to be able to oust someone doing a crappy job in mid-term...I'm just betting a lot of you would love to see that happen to Bush...so how is this the 'joke?'

He's a registered Republican, but is very liberal on social issues, and more conservative fiscally. Or so the story goes - I've yet to see him make an appearance that details what he's all about. Yet his approval rating is 51% whereas the next guy in line, Cruz Bustamante, is 17%. And my boy Bill Simon is 5%.
He wouldn't have to utter a word about policy and still win this, unless things go south (like a bad smear campaign against him that gains stream).
