Set it up, and then the whole team takes it's turn at once? That makes even less sense. I wish someone would just outright copy FFT's system. Characters of either team got their turn depending on how quick their character was...quick characters, like Ninjas, or people under the influence of Haste, obviously get more turns. Not that I didn't enjoy TO, mind you, I just think it's a game balance cop-out.

...and: What about the animaton on the battlefield? Do they swing their weapons and all that jazz? Different weapon and armor graphics like FFT? Cool spell effects? ...guess I should check out some movies...

Just so you know, it does opperate like sggg said it does, but you can modify it. Every time you issue a command to one of your units you can tell them to execute it immidiatly, or to wait and execute it at the end of the turn, in the order that you issued them. The reason you'd have them wait is to do combos and the like. It's a really flexable system that works much better than FFT ever did.

Also, the quicker characters do go first as far as I can tell. The initial dispatch goes how you want it to, but I think from them on the quicker character goes first. But I'm not sure, as I haven't really been paying attention.

And as far as I could see, the appearence of the character reguardless of what armor they were wearing never altered the character model in FFT. Just the weapons. And the same holds for Disgaea. If your character whields a gun, they won't bop the enemy over the head with a sword. ;)

Yes they actually swing/fire their weapons, and the spell effects kick ass.

Also, job changes yeild appearence changes.

I'm really not kidding when I say it's better than FFT. I love Square and their games, but this, quite simply, is better in every concevable way.

Yes it is happening, I am putting aside time everyday to complete Disgaea in 10 days (which is actaully hard to do seeing as how I just got Soul Calibur 2 and F-Zero). In order to reach this goal atleast four hours must be played per day on average. If I am Succesful I will be able to play Final Fantasy Tactics Advance when it is released without conflict. The road ahead is long, but riddled with rewards...Today I offer my First journal chronicaling my journey.

The Disgaea Marathon: Day One 08/28/03

Today was my first offical day of play and a great start over all. With over five hours of play time total, I am left in good position to meet my goal. Tasks complete include: Chapter One, Three trips through Item world (1 Axe [legendary] and 2 Spears [rare]) and Two promotions. The Team now consists of eight members, levels are 11,8,8,8,8,6,6,6.

From the short amount of time I played Disgaea, I will already say that FFT has it beat on the music front.

Can't comment on anything else yet though.

OK, you're right. I'm not a big fan of the music myself. It's too...cutesey.

So maybe not every concevable way. But definitly most ways. ;)

Now if only Atlus of America would bring out "Growlanser IV" all would be good for SRPG's :D

Less sense than TO where your entire team got to go, one-by-one, before the enemy's every time. I'm sure Disgaea's system works in practice though...I just like FFT where the turns are mixed between the teams.

Yeah, weapons, and their shield when they block. Character sprites only changed with class, but, that's good enough for me (although a 3D SRPG with dynamic character models would be cool).

Well, FFT did has some pretty good music, and overall I really liked the art, character designs, and atmosphere in FFT...much more interesting, than say, Tactics Ogre. But Disgaea seems to have a really unique take on it...just as long as I'm able to make cool characters (like whatever it's equivalent to Ninjas and Dragoons are) I'll be set.

Is your main character cool, or is it that little brat'ish dude you always see (I realize that may not be mutually exclusive)? It would be nice for once if you got to decide the appearance/gender/composition of the main guy...just, as a side thought.

I love the music so far. It was one of the first things that jumped out. In fact, I was playing last night when icepop came home and before she saw what I was playing she asked what I was listening to becaude she liked it so much. :)

Well, different people define "cool" much differently, and I am sure some people won't like Disgaea's characters and character designs.... but I love all of the characters - including Laharl, the main character. I love kitsch and cute though. :p

Fine, I'm sold. I better pick it up before it becomes scarce. I don't think I'll open it for a while...I have too much work to do, and these type of games tend to devour your soul.

I can't believe how much time of life has been spent watching that Crag Crush animation :(
