I don't know why it bugs me so much, maybe years of exposure have made it like an open running wound or something...

I say hit and miss. Like arjue, I don't find video game 'humor' funny at all, really. I do like PA's art style though.
Here are some examples of my favorite webcomic, Rehabilitating Mr. Wiggles by Neil Swaab:

yes, the comic is horrible and bill keane deserves a painful death, but fred basset is worse. i don't see how anyone gets enjoyment out of it. it just.. exists, serving no purpose whatsoever. i'm positive that the family circus has a fanbase, as i've seen strips pinned to the wall in several break rooms over the years.. *shudders*Quote:

:lol::chu::chick:
btw, the best mainstream comics in recent memory = calvin and hobbes, bloom county, the far side (usually.)
edit: edited for teh readability.
Family Circus is gabage, except when they do those strips when the little kid runs around the neighbor hood, and you follow his actions via a long dotted line.
Calvin and Hobbes was great, but Watterson could get too preachy sometimes.
I don't read the comics anymore, but when I did I enjoyed: Dilbert, Curtis, The Farside, Beetle Baily, Fox Trot, and Garfield.
Man, Cathy is such worthless trash, along with Marmaduke, Heathcliff, B.C, Shoe, and some other boring ass strips that are never funny.
Seriously. Jerkcity beats all.Quote:

Calvin and Hobbes is one of the best comics ever created. I loved that series. I have most of the books, I go through one every so often. Anyone know what Waterson is up to now?
My latest is Liberty Meadows. Frank Cho is a downright amazing artist (one of the big reasons I loved about C & H was Watersons style. He could change things up everyday and make that much more of an interesting strip). Now that Meadows is in comic book form, Cho can do what he wants now.
Okay, how can you "penny arcade is never funny" guys not like a comic in which the main character takes out an N-Gage PR flack with an electric cattle prod? The subtle last panel is the best:
http://www.penny-arcade.com/images/2003/20030822l.gif
"The new comic strip concerns the N-Gage Special Forces, a crack group of liars and miscreants whose job it is to spread lies about the N-Gage. When I say lies, I mean things like telling people that it is good or that someone should buy one with money. I wince when I look at it. When it comes time to account for why it is such a monumental fuck-up, in my mind I see a group of men all around a long conference table. They all shrug in unison."
Penny Arcade can and has been very, very funny on multiple occasions. It's just that when they miss, they completely whiff. Like, not even funny at all. AT ALL.
And I have these friends that worship freaking PA and laugh at EVERY STRIP, no matter how stupid. That and Strongbad. Strongbad is funny, but NOT THAT FUNNY!
Calvin and Hobbes is the greatest strip of all time. Bloom County/Outland is 2nd in my heart.
And, as I mentioned before, Liberty Meadows is slowly climbing up there.
Can anyone believe how much the Simpsons comics suck? I mean, really.
I agree that Fred Basset sucks, epmode, but more than this???:
