people who have their system hooked up to 5.1 sound, what do you recommend I get for under $200 that offer decent sounds? I've read the logitech z640 was pretty good for $100. Whats the average output per satellite speaker nowadays? What about for subwoofer?
Oh and please don't tell me to not be a jew. Since I'm asking this,it means that im po'.
Save a little more and get the $300 Kenwood system...I forget the numbers of the item (206 maybe?), but me and someone else here bought them and it's a bitchin set for the price. Silver too.
Good timing for this question, as I'm going to purchasing this reciever soon and need a good, fairly inexpensive 5.1 speaker set to give me some rumble loving. If anyone can offer up a set that matches the reciever in power, I'll love you forever.

HTB-206 is the HTB he is refering to. Great system for the money.
The Z640 doesn't give you true 5.1 sound for consoles... it comes with an adapter that channels stereo sound through all 5 speakers. It also isn't digital capable, which would be the entire point of getting a 5.1 system for your consoles. It's great for PCs though and has incredible bass and low-range.
There's no cheap way into getting surround sound, you're going to have to save up $300 and get a nice Klipsch or Kenwood.
Check out the Logitech Z680, since that's more in line with what you want... digital and not a shitty 70 watts like the Z640. ;)
HTB-206! Thanks Videodrome. I give it my hearty recommendation. If you do a search for that, you'll see the last thread on surround gaming on TNL. It was in the end of May/early June.

this is what i picked up i dont have a huge living room to fill with sound just my bed room

it outputs wide screen mode from the DVD player
if you have a widescreen tv or if you have a Sony with that widescreen "squeeze" feature
anyway it works perfectly for me like i said
for my room its pretty fucking loud and stays sounding clear
and it was only 200 bucks
I play everything through it and it all sounds really good
sure its not from a big fancy brand but im really happy with it
I don't know the situation, but you would be 1000x better off saving the money and using it for an entry level home theater. For around $700 (at the right places) you can get a pretty decent setup. I know it's alot of cash but it should be considered an investment where otherwise you might be thowing the money away.Quote:

What I would reccomend is upgrading in small bits to get a better-performing setup. Instead of getting a HTIB (which usually have a limited amount of connections), I'd reccomend getting a decent surround sound reciever, and a pair of nice bookshelf speakers. One you accumulate more money in the future, you can upgrade as you please. This way, you'll have a nicer system in the long run, and it won't fell like you spent a butt-load of money, since it will be spread out over a long period of time.
