All this time I thought Itagaki had worked on the NES Ninja Gaiden games and so I had an obligatory respect for him.

Why is the guy so cocky and able to get so many interviews based on so little in terms of achievement? He's like the Dave Perry of Japan. The fact that his name is more known than Noriyoshi Ohba is disturbing.

I think he deserves respect, if for nothing else, than for insisting his games are made using the best possible technology.

More companies need to take Team Ninjas lead and develop for the highest common denominator (X-Box) and then port down (if they must).

I checked the credits for part 3, and he wasn't in there(unless he was using a different name). So that means he worked on Captain Tsubasa 4. It would be funny if he was responsible for the horrible graphic overhaul that game recieved.

thanks for the comments. i tried baiting him a bit, but i didn't get what i wanted. he was a little more circumspect than in the past. i am positive he wanted to say some negatory stuff about SCII but he held himself in check.

well, duh. i'm not stupid. =P the idea was hopefully to get him to jump off this and say something totally off the wall. he didn't even say what you suggest because he was totally unwilling to comment. if he'd said something interesting i would have pried deeper into it.

He should get his stories straight. One minute he says he plays the old Ninja Gaiden games for inspiration, and then he basically says all they are doing is slapping the Ninja Gaiden name on to sell it.

Seriously now. I was just thinking about this earlier, and I realize how much I totally rag on the Dead or Alive series as a fighting game. Yes, it's unbalanced. Yes, it's the most dumbed down 3-D fighter of all time. Yes, it's popular based solely on pretty graphics and sex appeal. Despite all that, I can't say that I never had fun with the games. When the original DoA was released for the PSOne I remember all incredibly tense fights I had thanks to that whacky exploding ring. I don't even want to know how many hours DoA2 sucked away from me when I was around friends. The man knows how to make a fun game. Sure, deep down they may suck compared to something like Virtua Fighter 4, but they're games that are very accessible and everyone can enjoy, regardless of wether you're winning or losing.

Because then you can just mash the counter button and win ;)

Johnny, there's no need to be rude about it. I haven't seen the NES Ninja Gaiden ending credits in ages and simply believed a common piece of misinformation. Everyone makes mistakes.

Strider, I don't see how you say Itagaki is twice as good as Perry. I compared both for ego/overpraisings sake but Perry has made more good games than Itagaki. Aladdin, Earthworm Jim, MDK(the PC one, not the shitty PS1 port so many people judge it on), Wild 9 and Sacrifice are enough to place him above Itagaki, at least until Ninja Gaiden comes out.

Only in your opinion. I've played all but Wild 9 and the only one I really enjoyed was MDK, which wouldn't even make my top 100 list. Sacrifice was a nice idea, but the gameplay was... shit. It was incredibly clunky, especially once you get a little into the game and have to fight battles on two fronts.

Itagaki's current games sell very well, especially considering he's putting Japanese games on the xbox, which should be like the kiss of death in the sales department. He's got plenty to boast about.

I can say it on account of I only liked two of those games, and quite frankly I've probably put more time into DoA3 than either of them purely on basis of drunkenly mashing buttons while hanging out with friends. And Itagaki didn't make Enter the Matrix. Advantage = Tomonobu.
