While wishing desperatly that the Upright Citizens Brigade series would be released on DVD, I happened upon a description of the old HBO show "Mr. Show". Someone descripbed it as very Upright Citizens Brigade like and, well, that's enough to gain attention from me.
So, has anyone seen it? The DVD sets are a bit pricey and I don't exactly want to through money down when the only good word I have is that it's UCB-like.
Mr Show is god-like. I love primo SNL, Monty Python and Kids in the Hall, but for my money, Mr Show tops them all. Seriously. I seen some UCB a few years ago, it was good, but not up to snuff with my favorite sketch comedy show of all time. Season 3 is out today, tommorow my friends are coming over and we're gonna watch the whole thing:)

How it can have so many loyal devotees is beyond me. It's not funny!!!! (except for the skit where they yell rapist all the time)

On mister show, I've seen a few episodes and IMO it can't touch the UCB. Not even close.
On the flip side, I've seen a few episodes of UCB, and I much prefer Mr. Show. Now I just have to get Season 3 on DVD.Quote:

Is UCB ever coming to DVD? Like I said, I've only seen a few episodes, so I'd love to see more. What I saw was hilarious, I just prefer Mr. Show.
Yeah I've seen mr.Show on HBO many times and it's great(It's got Bob Odenkirk, how could it be bad). It's not relly like Upright Citizen's Brigade as the humour isn't a sin your face and crude. Mr.Show's skits are more high brow, but at the same time they're not (Does that make sense?). From most experiences of watching the show with people, it'll either click with you or it won't. Still, how can you not love Derekology.
I'd say both shows are equaly good, and belong in that collection of awsome sketch comedy shows with Python, The State, and Kids in the Hall.

Well, I've decided to give Mr. Show a shot by asking for it for my birthday. Come September 12th someone in my family will have probably bought it in celebration of my existance.
Mr. Show is one of the funniest shows I have ever seen! A lot of people don't get the humor because it is either very subtle or just plain out there. It is sketch comedy at it's most bizzare and obtuse. It can be hit or miss but I definately recomend it. The cool thing is the sketches all connect to each other seamlessly in each show, often with running jokes. The "Third Wheel" song is worth the price alone!
Kind of hit and miss for me...but there are definitely some good skits. Nowhere near the level of The Kids in the Hall or the State though, for my tastes.
That one in the porno shop was hilarious.
